View Full Version : What is round-arm serving?

The rackets resembled snowshoes in shape and weight, the balls had hand-sewn flannel outer casings and the serving was round-arm rather than overhead.

From the original Wimbledon ... anyone know what it is...? Underarm serving?

I keep thinking...Conchita's serve is round arm?! Maybe?!

I wondered too if it was Conchita's style of serving. If you look at some of the Hispanic men they serve like that particularly the Argentinians. Mariano Zabaleta and Juan Ignacio Chela are perfect examples. There was lots of comment about this type of serve during the Aus Open here.

I think it is where you don't do into a back scratch, and just slice around the ball. Conchita uses it a lot - pretty ugly:fiery:

More like Conchita-style, going out to the side. The clothes at that time were stiff from starch, making overarm activity diificult and painful.

thanks - I'll keep an eye out for that :)
