I miss Steffi Graf and Vanroost and Jana Novotna. Oh and of course I miss that fiesty and funny Natasha Zerveva!:)

You miss tennis players because they brought insight inot the
game or they were very good players. You can't miss someone
because his or her face is not seen on the tennis court.

How can you miss Van de Roost. She just was an ordinary
tennis player who maybe don't win a tier I let alone grandslam.
Graf and Jana were good players and we all missed them
a lot especially what tennis could have looked like had they
still playing tennis with the likes of Venus, Serena, Davenport
Capriati, Henin, Clijsters....FATASTIC.

Your telling me what I can or cannot feel and that is unrealistic! If your opinions on missed players is the way you described then that is great for you, but I am not you. I miss all the above mentioned players. .. for my personal reasons.

Actually Vanroost was my very first ever female player that I've seen play "LIVE".. and I will always remember that doubles match! :)

Chibuku14, of course you come from the Netherlands, how else could you dare to post such nonsense.
Van Roost was not an ordinary tennis player. No, she never won a Grand Slam and she was never ranked number one. But she was a player who made a lot of a limited amount of talent and defeated several top players.
She was in any case less ordinary than the Dutch tennis women of her generation.
There!

Who a person likes doesn't depend on them being a GS winner.

If a person's fave is/was someone ranked 100, then good luck to them. :)

They were a joy to watch but it was nail biting time. Steffi always played nervous againt Gaby but she always managed to pull it out because Gaby got even more nervous.

Begrudgingly, I miss Evert, for her mundacity, bourgeois haughtiness, and the way she held ball and raquet together before serving, as if offering them up to the Gods of sports equipment.

Thanks for those pics, esquimaux! I especially like the last one, featuring her modified Dorothy Hamill 'do.
The gesture I was referring to, though, occurred just prior to the toss; that prim, "here is my ball and here also is my raquet" preamble.

Is that the Canadian lady who had a tendency to go haywire?

One and the same- she'd not only go haywire, she'd engage in all sorts of gamesmanship- blowing up at line calls (that weren't even close), stalling, temper tantrums, junior finger pointing, verbal obscenities, bogus injury time-outs and bathroom breaks, you know, all the things that are taken for granted with today's players, but Hurricane Helen, when she was on, was a sight to behold. Mary Carillo and Fred Stolle used to just chuckle in the commentary booth sometimes when watching a Kelesi match.
