I didn't know what to put between Amanda Janes & Cheering Thread, so I just left it as it is :)

It looks like Amanda will be the British Number 3 at the end of the year, which is somewhat of a suprise considering before June she was ranked in the 500's/600's. So a major achievement so far, and things should be getting better as Amanda enters the top 300 :)

Any news on results & commitments post them in here :)

Good Luck Amanda for the rest of 2003 :)

thanks Colin :D

Amanda was scheduled to play Caroline Dhenin in R1 in qualifying but ended up defeating Bye ;)

Well Done Amanda ;)

She plays Libuse Prusova in R2,and then most probably the top seed Poutchek :(

Amanda is 5th on the commitments list for Glasgow $25k. Hopefully a player above her can pull out, so she and Jane won't meet until at least the semi's. Let's hope the drawmaker is nice and put's her & Jane in different halves of the draw ;)

There are some good points to be picked up here so lets all hope Amanda can live up to her seeding :)

Good luck Amanda :D

Amanda is through to the 2nd round of Glasgow $25k, by squeezing past Ana Vrljic of Croatia 7-5 7-5. In R2 she will play Russian Irina Boulykin who won her first round match 6-2 6-4.

Good Luck Amanda :D

More Good News is that Amanda is in the opposite half of the draw to jane ;) And all British final could happen ;)

Amanda was playing in the Porto $25K this week.
She was beaten in r1. by Laura Dell'Angello(ITA) 6-4 4-6 6-3.

BTW she's just two places bellow her personal best world ranking (297) now. She should improve on that when Glasgow points go on. Watch this space!

Colin B

Confirmed 6/10/03:

Amanda Janes - World No. 290, her personal highest ranking. :)

With Lucie and Julie (both nominally higher) in retirement, Amanda is effectively Britain's No. 3 behind Anne and Jane.

This week she is playing in the Jersey $25K.

Pdm1987
Oct 7th, 2003, 10:17 AM
Well Done Amanda :D :D :bounce: But with no points to defend she should be around 250 at least by the end of the season ;)

Good Luck in Jersey Amanda

R2 def. O'Donoghue (8) 6-4 7-5 :D (But of course  ;))
QF lost to Chakvetadze (q) 2-6 2-6

Another good event for Amanda :D :D Now bordering on the Top 230  Who'd have thought this at the beginning of the year (and its only February ;)) Let's hope Amanda continues this form into the Top 200 :D

And surely it's time to stop committing to $10k's. AJ is committed to Buchen & Amiens i believe  I suppose every little helps :)

Good Luck Amanda

Its great to see her shooting up the ranks, its amazing that she is entering the period where she can enter GS Quallies. Out of everyone (in British tennis), she is playing the most consistently. Well done Amanda :bounce:

P.S. There aren't any higher up ITF she can commit to, really? Is there?

15 Mar; Amiens $10k FRA - MD 6 (Indoor Clay)
22 Mar; either; Athens $25k GRE (Outdoor Hard)

I hope AJ chooses the $50k in Russia instead of going to Athens with the other Brits, should be good experience! And a mix of surfaces aswell ;)

Latest Commitments :)

5 April: Dinan $50k + H - 20th in Qualifying (don't know if she's commited to play Casablanca)
12 April: Biarritz $25k - 20th in Qualifying (don't know if she's commited to playing Estoril)

I would expect that most of the higher ranked players entered for these challengers would try their luck in Casablanca, Estoril & Budapest.

Good Luck AJ in whatever tournaments you decide to play ;)

She was commited for the current clay events (Dinan & Biarritz) but pulled out just before :(

Is she injured? or does she not want to play on clay at this moment in time?

Hope she'll be back for the Fed Cup in Malta :) (on Hardcourts)

At Wimbledon AJ lost to Sugiyama (11) in 3 sets  nice effort!

Back down to earth with a bump, Amanda is in Felixstowe semi's, with a current ranking of 250, if she gets to the final or wins it, which she should, her ranking will be around 230-235. Will this be enough to get her into US Open qualies? please say it will ;)

Amanda has win her 3rd $10k this year at Felixstowe :)

Beat Hannah in 3 sets in the semi's and beat Brit-Basher Mircic 6-2 6-1 in the final :D

Now surely it's time for AJ to stop playing this level of events, and move up!

Amanda has been fairly active, but has not been in great form recently! I really hoped she could get her arse in gear in time for Australia, if she managed to conquer her fear of flying to do it! Maybe the FO is a more realistic aim. Has anyone heard any of her plans?

Hey i'm glad this thread was started. I met amanda twice in the same day when she played at eastbourne and she was one of the most genuinely nice people I've ever met; even though she looked as if she was about to head off, she stopped and talked for quite a while!

I got Navratilova's autograph on this same day, and somehow managed to lose the piece of paper it was printed on. but I don't mind! I still have Amanda's. And Baltacha's (who she played with in doubles!)

Amanda plays Roland Garros quarterfinalist Sesil Karatantcheva in the first round. She's a great player but doesn't have any grass court credentials. I hope so much that Amanda wins so she could reconsider retirement at the end of the season. Plus, if she wins, she will play Maria Sharapova which would be fun and on TV!!! Go Amanda! :bounce:

I REALLY hope Amanda can pull this one out, she needs some encouragement to stick it out at least one more year. She has the talent, so COME ON MANDY!

I think Amanda can definitely beat Karatantcheva. It's funny how everyone in GM is talking about a potential Sharapova vs. Karatantcheva second round and Amanda isn't even considered a contender for the second round!

She is second on Court 13 tomorrow, not sure if thats televised or not, but hope so :)

Good luck AJ! :)

To be honest, I've lost all hope in our players! Any win now will be a bonus so I'm not going to expect anything from Amanda!

Any news on Amanda?

It's been 2 months since she last played at Wimbledon, pushing to the limit Karatancheva, same as she did in Birmingham with Morigami and in Surbiton with Brandi...

Hopefully she'll come back strong in the $25K indoor challengers in UK & France in Autumn

She got married after Wimbledon, so hopefully she will be back soon. :wavey:
