This forum 'British Tennis' needs livening up a little bit, so I thought i'd start with a Cheering Thread for our number 1, Anne Keothavong :D :D

A place to discuss Anne's results, commitments and general Cheering Thread posts ;) (Whatever they may be)

Good Luck Anne on the rise to the top 100, and good Luck in US Open qualifying :worship:

!VAMOS ANNE!

19/05/2008: Well Done Anne on reaching the Top 100 at Number 97 :woohoo: :bounce:

Go Anne! :worship:

I think at US Open quallies with a good draw she could qualify. I mean I think she lost to Dulko because she was rusty.

I won't mind of she plays these seeded players:

Aniko Kapros
Wynne Prakusya
Gisela Dulko
Natalie Vierin
Sofia Arvidsson

I don't want her to play these seeded players:

Renata Voracova
Vera Douchevina
Kristina Brandi

I'm pretty confident that Anne can beat every player in qualifying, but I just want to be sure that she qualifies!

As Anne has a busy September schedule, perhaps it's time to revive this thread.
Last week she lost in r2 of the Peachtree $25K so less said about that, the better. She is commited to the main draw of three more tournaments in the US:

15/9 - 21/9 Columbus $50K*
22/9 - 28/9 Albuquerque $75K
29/9 - 5/10 Troy $50K

*She celebrates her 20th birthday on Tuesday, 16th.

Good luck to her in all these tournaments and a happy birthday on Tuesday!

Main Draw for Albequerque is now on www.acemantennis.com

Anne plays Andrea Vanc (ROM) in r.1.

She'd better start earning some points here as there's shitloads to come off in Sept/Oct.
Go for it Anne!

Bronx $50K - r1. lost to Dulko 6-4 2-6 2-6
USO - q/r1. bt Mouhtassine 4-6 7-5 6-2
USO - q/r2. bt Washington 6-3 3-6 6-4

Peachtree $25K - r1. bt Rampre 7-5 6-2
Peachtree $25K - r2. lost to Liu* 2-6 6-1 2-6
Columbus $50K - r1. lost to Snyder 2-6 4-6
Albuquerque $75K - r1. lost to Vanc 6-2 2-6 4-6
Troy $50K - r1. lost to Tezuka* 6-2 4-6 4-6

*Liu ranked 257, Tezuka 363.

The loss to Snyder was forgivable (she then made the final) and the win over Washington was great but most of the losses, especially to Liu and Tezuka were very disapointing

She's obviously not had a good US tour. As I said, she should have come home after Albuquerque.

I wish Anne would of played those tour events! Even if she would of lost a few first round qualifying matches, it would be better experience than playing Sunderland and Redbridge! And of course, she's playing a challenger next week. The $50,000 St. Paul challenger actually.

On another note, what kind of form do you think Anne is in right now? It's really hard to tell, because all the players she lost to were pretty good, except for Ally Baker. She's had some good wins over Dulko, Kanepi, and Tamaela. I think if she does well in St. Paul than she should move on to WTA tournaments. Does anyone know if she is playing Indian Wells?

Why are you confused? All I'm saying is I wish Anne would of played like Kroger St. Jude and Dubai instead of the challengers in England.
I'm also just asking if anyone knows what kind of form she's in.
It's not that confusing!

Well, whenever Anne does hit good form, unfortunately she doesn't seem to keep it up for long. You think she's doing well, and then... she goes and loses to someone she should have beaten! Always two steps forward and then two steps back ... The answer about her form is, well, I dunno, what she needs is consistency but we don't seem to see that. Ah well, I wish her luck anyway, in challengers, WTA tournaments, or whatever!

Don't get ahead of yourself! She still has .5 points to defend for this week so even if she loses next match she'll go down. She's only ranked 185 so she has a long way to go to the top 100 but I have faith in her!

Now I think about it, I don't think Anne has had such a bad start to the year! I worked it out in my head (so it could be way off) that she had earned about 50 points up to this point last year. So far this year she has 43.5 points which is pretty close to last years! This is also more impressive because she is playing higher tier challenger tournaments and has beaten some tough players like Kanepi, Tamaela, Dulko, Stosur, and Obziler! Go Anne!

She is probably going to face Els Callens, who is leading 6-3 *3-2 against Sanchez-Lorenzo. It will be a tough match because I love both, and Els is one of the cleverest players I have ever seen on a court, so Anne will have a tough time.

I recevied the GBTG Informer newsletter yesterday, it had this to say on Anne's injury.

After an encouraging Wimbledon and at near career-high ranking of 140, Anne Keothavong's career is temporarily on hold. During her recent trip to the US in the pre-US Open challenger tournaments, the British no. 1 sustained as freak injury. Whilst moving back for a routine overhead, the British no. 1 stepped awkwardly and twisted her knee. She ended her trip and returned home to a diagnosis no athlete wants to hear -- a ruptured Cruciate Ligament. Having cosulted two of Britain's best orthopaedic surgeons, Anne has been told she needs surgery and a 6-9 month lay off. The WTA rules allow her to freeze her ranking with immediate effect, but at this stage in her career, so close to the elusive top 100, it is definately Ad-Out for Anne.

Its such a shame what has happened.Anne was well on her way towards the top 100 and now her career might have been put back by 2 years(by the time she plays as well as she did in the summer and got injury free).

With Elena and her illness and Mel South having 2 major knee probelms in the past 2 years our girls seemed cursed.

Yeah I know! Anne would easily be top 100 by now I think because I'm sure ahd she tried her luck in WTA Tour events, she would of had at least one good result! I mean, look at Abigail Spears, she was hovering in the 120s and had one good WTA tour result, and voila! She's well inside the top 100! She's no more talented than Anne!

Keothavong caps return with title

British women's tennis got a boost on Sunday when Anne Keothavong capped her return from a serious injury with victory at the LTA event in Bolton.

The British number two only returned to action two weeks ago after eight months out with a knee injury.

And after losing in the first round in Sunderland, Keothavong lived up to her top seeding in Bolton with a 3-6 6-1 6-1 win over Czech Veronika Chvojkova.

It is the seventh title of Keothavong's career at the ITF level.

A former world number 140, she began the week ranked 212, and was named in Great Britain's Fed Cup team to travel to Turkey next month.

Her doubles skills have really improved since her comeback it seems...she had hardly any results of note before she got injured but since then she's won 2 challengers and some other decent performances. She's at a career high in doubles since the Lagos points got put on and with Quebec points on she'll be around the 250 mark by my calculations. She's got a pretty good shot in March...I think Elena has around 172 points to defend until then, whereas Anne obviously has nothing...and that's Elena's lead plus a bit more. Elena may be able to defend some of her points at the start of next season...but Anne has a few 25k's at the end of this season, and a combination of special ranking and actual ranking should get her into all the big Australian events at the start of next year...

Yeah she is isn't she STAY HERE!! we have 3 people posting in her forum now

anne lost:sad: 2-6 6-2 6-7

she played really well in the second until she was up 4-2....lost the break...held serve at 4-4 to take it to 5-4* but injured herself in the 4-4 game. She took a timeout and it looked like she was gonna lose the match after going a break down but then she recovered to take it to a tb where she went 3-0 up and then 5-4 up but she still lost it...she probs would have won the 3rd 6-4 if not 4 the injury but i hope she can take the positives out of the match and improve...she played really well when the pressure was off after the first set and the start of the second but she needs to work on playing well when under pressure.
And yes, shes very attractive:hearts: im expecting many pictures later:)

pathetic loss today in belgium tournie...she really should have gone to cincy qualis instead...she needs to rethink her schedule....she should travel with bally when bally gets her ranking back up because bally was doing the right thing before she got injured - going to the WTA qualis trying to qualify for the top tournies.....trying to prove herself on the big stage....if you qualify and then win a match, you've already won more points than when you win a 25k...the only way anne is gonna get to the next level is by playing with the top girls day in-day out...her ranking is high enough to get intop most qualies

I don't understand why she would play a clay tournament. She should have gone to the U.S. or Canada and get in some games on the hard courts. Why go from clay to grass to clay again? Someone needs to advise her or at least guide her when it comes to her schedule. Maybe she should tour with Bally. Bally has the right idea with her schedule.

Anne better get it together though. She has some points to defend as she made the quarters of Lexington last year.

And i bet her schedule has something to do with the stupid LTA telliing her to play challengers. Bally is more independent and probably makes her schedule herself. Anne should be doing the higher challengers and qualifying points...its likely one tournie she will showup playing well and will get deep in to a bigger one and gain so many more points. Is it lexington next?
