Keep in mind that the Brothers Gibb really had 2 distinct careers with the same trio. In the late 60's they had these soft rock, plaintive hits like "Massachusettes" and "I Started a Joke". A "big backbeat" song from about 1970 called "Lonely Days" had only modest success, so they were fading. Then came disco, and they totally reinventd themselves with "Stayin' Alive", "Night Fever" (from Saturday Night Fever of course), etc. But "slipped in" a throwback to their earlier style, IMO the best song they ever did, "The Edge of the Universe". A few bars: Just my dog and I
at the edge of the universe.

Well, I'm ten feet tall,
but I'm only three feet wide.
And I live inside an ocean that flows
on the other side.

If I came back down tomorrow,
would it all be far too soon?
And it looks like it's gonna be a lovely afternoon. :)

and there is no help Of course there is, right in a great ABBA song: ABBA - S.O.S

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S.O.S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S.O.S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

You seem so far away though you are standing near
You made me feel alive, but something died I fear
I really tried to make it out
I wish I understood
What happened to our love, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S.O.S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S.O.S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S.O.S.
And the love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S.O.S.

Was never exactly spellbound by the Bee Gees, but I do acknowledge good songmaking when I hear it.

My favorite is "Nights On Broadway". Followed by "You Win Again" (heard it too often, though) and "Tragedy".

Smile an everlasting smile
A smile could bring you near to me
Don't ever let me find you gone
'Cause that would bring a tear to me
This world has lost it's glory
Let's start a brand new story
Now my love right now there'll be
No other time and I can show you
How my love
Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I'm here if you should call to me
You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say
It's only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say
It's only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away
It's only words, and words are all
I have to take your heart away

can't believe their worst song (staying alive) is the song they are most famous for

I love 'you win again'

As for ABBA, is there a better song than The Winner Takes it All?

As for ABBA, is there a better song than The Winner Takes it All? Uh, yes! Besides "SOS" and the above-mentioned "Dancing Queen", try "Take A Chance on Me", "The Name of the Game", and of course the greateast song ever to win the Eurovision song contest (with perhaps the greatest backbeat ever) "Waterloo". ;)

Sorry, Winner Takes it All can't be topped, not even by Take a Chance on Me, Summer Night City or Knowing me, Knowing You.

One of my Abba favourites is "Eagle". But they are all so good, these guys knew the true meaning of the word "song".

My favorite is "Nights On Broadway".

:yeah: as Tracy Austin would say, "definitely" - that song has a catchy groove and a killer bridge.

my fave ballad of theirs is "How Deep Is Your Love"
