Aug 4th, 2003, 07:28 PM
Lena, please lose early in LA.

I want no chance of you skipping Toronto on me. :)

Aug 4th, 2003, 07:38 PM
Good Luck Lena :D:D! not really an easy draw..
& also in doubles with Els :yeah:

Aug 4th, 2003, 07:47 PM
That's a good point, a very tough draw.
If Lena wins one match, it's a good tournament.
Two wins means Lindsay. Then it's a huge tournament.

I do think Els will keep Lena in L.A. all week, though. Should be a good team.

Aug 4th, 2003, 07:54 PM
Nah. Lena & Els will lose 1st round hopefully. Davai. Husarova is a very good doubles player.

What is stopping Lena from playing almost as well as Lindsay?
Is it coaching? Experience?
Lindsay uses her height to her advantage. Is it just a matter of time for Lena?

What is stopping Lena from playing almost as well as Lindsay?
Is it coaching? Experience?
Lindsay uses her height to her advantage. Is it just a matter of time for Lena?
1) Most important: Lindsay has better groundstrokes... especially on the forehand, while Lena may have a slightly better backhand. Lindsay hits the ball much cleaner than Lena, with more power.

2) Lindsay's serve. Lena's serve sucks... and I've said it a million times. Her motion is awful, so much unnecessary movement and she barely jumps into the court. Lena wastes her height.

3) Lindsay is the more agile player. I've watched their IW match about 10 times now... and Lindsay is the quicker player. It's truly sad watching Lena this year... and comparing her to her 02 USO matches, and win over Venus. Lena IS SOOOOO MUCH SLOWER. I really don't know why she is either.

4) Experience. Lena has absolutely no strategy when she's playing... she just hits, and hopes she can smack a winner. But, you could really say the same for every player, nowadays. At least Lena has been coming to net in the past weeks, however... so maybe that's a good sign.

Go Lena.

Aug 5th, 2003, 02:32 PM
Step up a gear, Lena

Aug 5th, 2003, 03:16 PM
Thanks Leena. I knew you wouldn't sugarcoat it.
It will be a shame if Lena's serve never has the power of her size. Like Alyona.

I just sent an e-mail to Craig Kilborn at CBS.
I said he should have Lena as a guest.
He recently had on Lisa Leslie and Finch, so he likes tall athletes.
Then he had a #40, Harkleroad, on. Because he likes Kournikova.
I wrote that Lena, as a Russian tennis player, knows Anna.
And that Lena in a tight dress and heels, is 6-foot-7 of bombshell.
Hopefully he can get Lena on this Friday.

Aug 5th, 2003, 11:41 PM
I hope you're being sarcastic... because nobody in America knows who the hell Lena is.

Aug 5th, 2003, 11:41 PM
The tournament website says Suarez beat Molik, 6-4, 6-4.
If that's right, then Lena plays Suarez in her first match.
Lena follows that match to play her first round doubles match, so I hope she got a scouting report on Suarez.

Vamos Lena!!

Sarcastic, stupid, one of those. She fits his profile. I know it's impossible.
Look at this timing we have.

Aug 5th, 2003, 11:51 PM
Go Paola!!

Vamos Janette and Conchita!!

Aug 6th, 2003, 07:56 AM

GO Lena!

Aug 6th, 2003, 02:28 PM

After Lena wins today, she can go party at the chic La-La-Land night spots.
And get her swerve on!

Aug 6th, 2003, 03:29 PM

2nd round of doubles isn't until Thursday either.

Lena & Els play Janet Lee & Meilen Tu  They're not gonna lose.

Lena, you might as well FINALLY beat Lindsay this week then. :)

I was hoping to see her Sunday though... oh well.

Aug 6th, 2003, 04:36 PM
They scheduled this so Lena and Lindsay still are hours away from playing their first matches.
But if I'm a player on the tour, and I have some free time, Hollywood is the tour stop I want to be at.

Does Lena know that her biggest fan roots against her?

Aug 6th, 2003, 04:46 PM
I meant that last line as comedy.
Edit: Seriously, if Lena is out of the tournament on Friday. Why would she not be in Toronto by Sunday?

Aug 7th, 2003, 02:31 AM
Leena, you're analysis of Lena's game is so in depth.
Can Lena improve to where she's almost as good as Lindsay?
Or is Lindsay too much better as a player? As an athlete?

Aug 7th, 2003, 11:43 AM
Paola Suarez (ARG) d. (13) Elena Bovina (RUS) 26 75 75

Better luck in Toronto. Take care of her Leena ;)

Order of play - Thursday 7 August 2003

2.Pratt vs. Martinez (not before 1.00pm)
3.Maleeva vs. Ruano Pascual (not before (2.30pm)
4.Lee / Tu vs. Bovina / Callens (after suitable rest, if necessary)

Aug 7th, 2003, 02:47 PM
With Lindsay as the next opponent, it's not a devastating loss.
That Lena is a top 25 player, and a beautiful, unique woman. Yet I'm talking to myself all day in this thread. That says something bad about the marketing of women's tennis.

Aug 8th, 2003, 12:56 AM
It's still going to be a while before Lena and Els take the court.
It's amazing that Lena, Alyona, and Lina all lost their first match.
Maybe not amazing.
But still, it's Hollywood. I hope they all have fun out there. And re-energize.

Aug 8th, 2003, 02:57 AM
Paola gave Lindsay a tough match. 6-4 in the third.
Maybe Lena played well. I didn't see it.

I don't understand how this tournament makes money.
There's nobody paying admission. The Tennis Channel can't be paying a lot for U.S. tv rights.
They have to play the players. Pay the employees. The security. Maybe pay for use of the stadiums. And all other expenses.
How do they not go broke?
And look at what a joke their website is.

Aug 8th, 2003, 09:03 AM
Els/Lena :D

start 12.00 am

Davenport vs Sugiyama
Bovina/Callens vs Likhovtseva/Black

Aug 9th, 2003, 09:14 PM
I just saw on the Rogers AT&T website that Els is playing on centre court in Toronto tomorrow.
Yet she's playing a doubles semi-final in southern California right now.
So what happens if Lena and Els win today?

Edit: I looked again and it says Sunday August 9th. So I guess they mean Saturday. And Els isn't going to be qualifying, if she's playing now.
Lena's first round opponent is Sanchez Lorenzo.

Aug 10th, 2003, 12:31 AM
Doubles - Semifinals
Elena Bovina / Els Callens (RUS/BEL) d. (2) Cara Black / Elena Likhovtseva (ZIM/RUS) 36 64 62

GO Elena and Els!

Aug 11th, 2003, 01:12 AM
Pierce/Stubbs won 6-3, 6-3.
Now Lena has to get a plane to Toronto.

I didn't see Lena's name in the Toronto doubles draw.

Aug 11th, 2003, 02:09 AM
:( :(

all the best for Toronto Elena :)

Aug 11th, 2003, 03:37 PM
Lena/Els

Jul 26th, 2004, 06:32 PM
does anyone know why Suarez and Ruano Pascual didn't play together in the JP Morgan Chase Open?

Jul 26th, 2004, 06:37 PM
Maybe Ruano Pascual and Martinez are preparing for the Olympics.

Jul 27th, 2004, 12:22 AM
Maybe Ruano Pascual and Martinez are preparing for the Olympics.
yeah that could be it - i was just curious since they are such a good team

Jul 27th, 2004, 12:37 AM
Nadia and Meghann are a good team also. But they don't represent the same country.
