View Full Version : Have we ever had a day like this?

Jul 31st, 2003, 05:38 AM
10 matches of Russian players played on Wednesday 30/7.

We have already 9 out of 9. Dinara, Nastya, Lena L., Lena B., Sveta, Lina, Alyona, Zhenya and Kolya all won.

Will Nadya complete a Russian sweep?
Will we have a perfect day, a perfect 10?

I hope so..:)

Well either Sveta or Elena are going to loose today.

I really hope Alyona can win.

not only that
make it 13/13

Russian U18 girls had the easy job of beating Greece in semis of European Summer Cup Zone D, in Portugal.

Vera Douchevina and Maria Kirilenko took part in singles.
and today they play Spain

well done girls  :)

Elena D. was 2 games away.
We could have had Nadya vs. Elena D.,
and Sveta vs. Elena L., as the 2 quarterfinals in the top half.
Still, excellent efforts from all four, and Lena B., also.

Now, vamos, Lina!!

And Nastya's and Dina's losses were somewhat not tennis-related. It's unbelievable, that Nastya gets sick the second time in row when playing Mandula.

Looks like another good day for Russian girls. :)
I don't remember that there ever were 6 Russians into Round of 16. :)

P.S. O-o-ops, it is actually already happened recently at Acura Classic. :)

pretty good day

but now we got to get at least 3 into QF
1 is guaranteed
should be Alyona as Nastya is still feeling a bit sick

Aug 13th, 2003, 10:12 PM
Oh i hope Alyona. Also Vera, Alyona and Lena have good draws.

Aug 13th, 2003, 10:26 PM
Yes, I'd say Vera, Aliona and Lena B. have very realistic chances to go through

I don't think Lina will upset Kim and I cannot see Nadia beating Justine. Not after today's match against Vivi where she struggled so much :(

Aug 14th, 2003, 12:21 AM
I can't find Nastya talking about her being sick. This is from tsn.ca about playing Alyona:
"I think it will be a really tough match for both of us. It's going to be tough mentally."

Aug 15th, 2003, 03:01 AM
Well done, girls..:)

Aug 16th, 2003, 03:50 AM
Lina and Alyona into the semis of a Tier I.
I see this as just the beginning. There are too many good Russians. And so young. And improving. And pushing each other.
It's just a matter of time.
But I'm very impatient. I want tomorrow to be a big, big day for Lina and Alyona.

2 Russian girls into semis, pity we didn't have three,. It was possible Sveta, Vera beating Suarez.

Aug 27th, 2003, 11:22 PM

Maria Kirilenko
Elena Likhovtseva :yeah:
Svetlana Kuznetsova :yippee:

The Russina's are standing tall at the 2003 U.S. Open! :bounce: Except for the tallest Russina Elena Bovina who surprisingly lost in the first round. :(

What has happened to Mikhail Youhzny? This has been a lost year for him. But I'm tempted to give him a free pass on this year because his father tragically passed away last September. That has to have understanably left a long lasting pain in his soul. And then only a couple of months later Misha was the Davis Cup hero for Russia as they won their first ever Davis Cup. :D So alot happened to him in a short period of time.

Then he started off well this and and had a 2 set to love leave on Andy Roddick in the round of 16 at the Australian Open. But Roddick picked up his game and won the next 3 sets and the match. But that had more to do with Roddick's huge serve and fine play than it did with Misha falling apart. That was not the case. Could losing that tough match to Roddick have sent Youhzny into a year long tailspin? I never expected him to have such a terrible year.

And at this point, Russian men's tennis is going nowhere. But 2004 will bring new hope. :D

Not exactly the happiest day of my life.
It is especially sad that Vera lost. Two other losses were predictable, in fact.
But it is sport.
2:3 for today. Nadya was great.
And Lena Likhovtseva, nice, quiet and shy veteran
( so shy actually that she even doesn't have her own thread :) ) did much better than anyone expected. :)
Let's hope that tomorrow Dinara, Lena and Nastya will do their best. :)

Aug 30th, 2003, 10:32 AM
Lena L did have a thread but its been lost through in-activity :(

we need 3 wins today
Dinara is firm fav in her match
Alyona should win her match but she needs to play alot better today.
Nastya is gonna have to make big improvements and not go AWOL again

Aug 31st, 2003, 03:13 AM
Well, it wasn't bad day at all.
3:0 for today. Five of our girls are in the round of 16.
Realistically, we hardly could expect more. :)
