First I would like to welcome all the Russians that came to Slovenia for the weekend matches. I hope we get to see good tennis !

Decisions about which players will play singles will be made public friday afternoon.

Matches will be played at the courts of Portorož marina, from 16.00 on Saturday and from 15.00 on Sunday.

SLO TV schedule (all times CET):

Saturday - SLO 2: 15:45 - 20.00

Sunday - SLO 1: 6:10 - 7:25 (taped)
SLO 2: 14:45 - 18:00

Monday - SLO 1: 4:30 - ? (taped)

As of yesterday all the Slovenian players (Tinas, Maja, Katarina) are training in Portorož, as are 3 Russians (Anastasia, Vera, Elena B); Elena D is supposed to arrive in Slovenia today.

SLO 2 can't watch :sad:

btw, Any news about who will play? Ithink Kata and Maja, even I hope Tina ;)

They asked Mima (couple of times ;)) who will play, but she said at first she wasn't sure yet and then that she wouldn't have said it anyway, so that she can surprise the Russians. So we won't know until Friday (and probably only for Saturday - if she chooses Katarina & Maja, then Tina can still play on Sunday).

I hope Maja will play. :)

It's sure going to be tough for Slovenia, but the girls should be proud to have made this far. They secured a place in the world group for next year and it's great. Really to have 3 top 100 players is just :worship:

The matches will be watched close to 600 of members of tennis clubs from Slovenia and 400 high guests and deserving tennis workers, so the tickets are no longer available 2 days before the match (there is space for 1200 people). "It's a shame that we don't have a bigger stadium for such an event here in Slovenia. This fed cup meeting is no doubt the biggest project of tennis association os Slovenia in her history so far, more than 200 people are included in it from different fields and we are all trying to make it a good event" said the head of Tennis association of Slovenia Andrej Jeras.

I bet the organisers are happy they are playing Russia and not Croatia :p .

TBE, do you know why the Russian Captain did not have Vera for the Singles? I wonder why Alyona is playing Singles even though she is ranked lower than Vera, yes and I know that the team doesn't need to follow the rankings too tightly. So, after the first day all four favourites are looking good for advancing. So most likely we are going to have semifinals -

USA-Belgium
Russia-France.

And with this draw we look good to make making Fed Cup finals every odd year a good tradition.

The question is who is going to host it.. If it is USA, it is going to be hardcoutrs, indoor or outdoor.

If it is going to be France or Belgium, it will be indoor clay, no question about.

If it is going to be Russia, it is not clear. Russians might want to neutralise Americans by choosing clay, or may want to neutralise Europeans, by choosing indoor hardcourts. Given that the chances are that Top Americans are unlikely to come to play finals in Russia anyways, I would be favoring the second option.

According to Russian media, it is a double substitution. Zvonareva will play Matevjic regardless of the result of the third rubber. Tarpishev just preferred to match Zvonareva against Matevjic ( whom she owns ), instead of Srebotnik, as a sort of result insuranse.
