The Cure is my fav band ever (although I wouldn't call them an 80's band, they made some good things in 90's too).

Although they still record and have released some great music during the 90s and 00s I would have to say DEAD OR ALIVE.

Good question. Have to think. Well Depeche Mode, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Frankie goes to Holywood. I give the edge on Depeche Mode.

Oh, I love/d The Smiths too as well as The Cure ( who produced some good '90s work ). I love Siouxsie & The Banshees who have been very good throughout the '80s, '90s and the new songs are good too.

I also liked groups like The Darling Buds, The Primitives, Voice Of The Beehive & , umm, Transvision Vamp :o as well.

With all the commotion around DM, they won't be a (good) '10 band though :p

 I was listening to The Darling Buds 'Erotica' just yesterday! And I still have Let It Bee on cassette somewhere...it's quite good actually. I think The Primitives 'Crash' came out in 90 but they did some other good stuff (...which I don't remember...)

I also still love Erasure and The Pet Shop Boys...and I'm surprised Joey didn't mention The Happy Mondays. :)

Gotta be Til Tuesday. The only 80s band worthy of a place in my CD collection. Apart from Blondie.

The Pretenders. (Bangles, GoGo's, Katrina and the Waves really great, too. While Fleetwood Mac's "signature album" (Rumours) was from '78, they had good stuff into the 80's (hell, even in their reunion a few years ago). :)

:hearts: the 80's  Those were the days...;) :)

U2 is definitely on top of my list, as are the Simple Minds. And The Police, they were 80's as well not? Surprised nobody mentioned them.

Further down the lists is Soft Cell, Blondie,...and I'm sure forgetting some.

'Crash' went to #5 in the UK in February 1988. They had quite a few good tracks e.g 'Sick Of It', 'Way Behind Me' & 'You Are The Way'.

Willow!

I missed em out! How could I! I mean how?

One of the best bands ever, fused dance beats with guitars and chicago house, Shaun Ryder at the helm with his lyrical genius (although the lyrics in my signature are from his time with Black Grape in 1995).

Pills and Thrills and Bellyaches is one of my fave albums of all time, Bummed is good too, and the first album, Squirrel and the G Man is good n'all... their final album, Yes Please... not so good, although the amount of trouble it had to get released kinda spoke volumes...

All the bands from the Madchester scene were quality, I missed out Inspiral Carpets too who have now reformed.

A film worth checking out to anyone interested in music is 24 Hour Party People, about the rise and fall of Factory Records and the Madchester scene, with Steve Coogan superbly playing the role of Tony Wilson, the boss of Factory Records.

:worship: Depeche Mode

And I still listen to them to this very day. They are unbeatable, however I don't like a lot of their new stuff. :o

I also sort of liked Duran Duran, and Bon Jovi... but that was ages ago. Can't leave off Billy Idol, "Rebel yell" and "white wedding" are real classics. :yeah:

There were so many great bands: Depeche Mode, New Order, Culture Club, Crowded House... but the Pet Shop Boys produced the most meaningful dance songs (that is NOT an oxymoron!) in the 80's or really in any decade...

pet shop boys are great!

Someone should mention Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band - two seventies bands who became huge in the eighties.
Of the Madchester scene, apart from Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses etc, I always liked James.

I very much like your taste, Bacardi!! :) (With the exception of Bon Jovi *blush* - I'm not a fan!! I am sorry... ) You don't like a lot of new DM stuff? Well, it took "Exciter" a little while to 'grow on me' but now I love it, absolutely love it... :D Freelooooove.... :D I'm sorry, I think Depeche Mode is my 'specialist subject' sometimes!! :o ;)

Billy Idol, indeed... :D I am listening to the man right now!! My favourite song is "Eyes Without A Face"... :)
