The team is

Myskina
Bovina
Dementieva
Likhotseva

I think they should have Lina and Alyona play doubles together.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 4th, 2003, 01:35 PM
there is no way Bovina will be playing the way she is right now

Myskina and Dementieva are in for sure
i'd pick Petrova as #3 singles (she might get in ahead of one of others anyway)
and Vera Zvonareva if she can get released from WTT commitments
Likhovtseva is also playing WTT

Lina and Alyona are the only Top Russians playi ng regularly together.
if Vera can't be released then Lina might get picked.
as its clay i'd go for Sveta instead of her.

Bovina is on the team??? why not to use thisn opportunity to bring some fresh blood? Lena B. doesn't deserve to be there. Not at this time.

Petrova is not on the team? I would prefer her over Nastya... But i'm comfortable with the decision to use ranking for available payers.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 4th, 2003, 04:43 PM
i didn't check if this was the team, i thought it was just what he thought
OMG :o

Team selection is just
last two should not be in the team

I'd rather go with 4 singles players.

Dava
Jul 4th, 2003, 04:54 PM
I wonder what they were thinking, I mean Likhotseva for doubles OK, but Bovina? Shes doing well in the mixed, but appart from that, she has no doubles experience of much worth (as much as I love her!). I would think maybe put Elena Band Elena L in, if the other two win singles match day one, and then win the doubles.

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 4th, 2003, 08:13 PM
you got that from Fed Cup site ??

that selection is not OFFICIAL
its been selected by the "webmaster"

I'm sure Vera will be involved

The nominations are not announced. On the Fed Cup site are shown the girls who played in the 1st round.

I think lovely Likhovtseva may have played in her last Fed Cup tie. Although she is the best Russian doubles player.

Vera Zvonareva has to be on the team! Only Myskina and Dementieva should be playing ahead of her. And maybe Petrova.

Who will the fifth player be?

KV
Jul 5th, 2003, 06:55 PM
You can't leave Vera Z. out. In doubles maybe Petrova/Dementieva, and Myskina play in singles.

Jordan.
Jul 5th, 2003, 08:24 PM
 When is the team gonna be announced?

fresh2flash
Jul 6th, 2003, 08:16 PM
It was just announced. The team is:
Nastya Myskina
Alyona Dementieva
Vera Zvonareva
Elena Bovina
The 5th member may be Sveta Kuznetzova.

fresh2flash
Jul 6th, 2003, 08:21 PM
So miss Bovina was picked ahead of Nadya. That I don§t understand. I hope there is a reason behind the choice.

goldenlox
Jul 6th, 2003, 08:32 PM
Lena only won three games against Masha.
The rankings must be the only method for choosing the team.

KV
Jul 6th, 2003, 08:37 PM
I'm surprised N. Petrova isn't picked. You could use her in doubles.

Jordan.
Jul 6th, 2003, 11:43 PM
Woohoo Vera. :bounce:

Nice to see Vera. :)
I am also surprised that Petrova is not picked but the team still sounds strong.

ys
Jul 8th, 2003, 09:11 PM
The question is - which of Myskina and Dementieva are they going to bench for singles? Zvonareva is a lock to play single - you would not bench a player who leads the Tour in match wins on clay this year, right? By rankings, Nastya should play, but leaving Alyona out of singles sounds improbably too.

King Aaron
Jul 9th, 2003, 03:43 PM
Lena B on the team?
I think they should let Alyona play with Vera for singles. I don't think Nastya is that comfortable on clay.
Why they didn't choose Nadia is beyond me. Could it be that Nadia didn't want to play?

fresh2flash

Could it be that Nadia didn't want to play?

No.

ys
Jul 9th, 2003, 08:16 PM
I think there is a simple explanation of why is that..

Selectors just went by current rankings. The fairest method of selection I can think of.

ys
Jul 9th, 2003, 08:27 PM
And according to Russian Tennis Federation, two Elenas started preparing to the match today in Umag, Croatia. Nastya and Vera will be joining them on Monday. Our girls look serious about this match.

Jordan.

Good luck Russinas. :bounce:

TheBoiledEgg
Jul 10th, 2003, 05:12 PM
Nastya and Vera shouldn't be playing in the WTT

agree Nadya should be in the team instead
looks like they picked top 4
interesting now that Alyona is only the #3 singles player now.

Just got back on as my power went from my PC, had to order a new power cable :o

Wow, tenn_ace, thanks for all that info!

Since Elena Bovina was picked, rightly or wrongly, I hope she will get to play and will do great. It could really be the boost she needs right now.

Today Dinara beat Katarina -- a sign of things to come this week? ;)

interesting choice :o but why no Vera selected ( debuts are tough but i'm sure she can handle it plus she owns both )

TheBoiledEgg

there's no way Vera will be playing doubles unless its a dead rubber
if its LIVE, my money is on Dementieva/Myskina, they have played together, took a set of Williams at Sydney Olympics.
2nd choice: Bovina in for Myskina.

Pleased especially with the Alyona result. Now is it dubs tomoz? Cos that seems the most mismatched team ever to me.

its all 3 rubbers tomorrow

then
Alyona vs Matevzic

That's exactly what Tarpishev said yesterday.. That he wanted to go with experience on the first day, but that on the second day Vera would play. I mwould not be actually surprised to even see Russians play all of their four players. Unless they decided to let Bovina leave one day earlier for Stanford..

YAY 5-0 to Russia DAVAI!!!! The FED Cp is so much better this year, all the strong tenis nations are doing well. Maybe this will increase its popularity.

Im glad that Elena was able to play doubles! Congrats to Vera and Elena!

Bon Chance against France!

What a great weekend for the Russian girls! :D Every team member won atleast 1 point. Well done! :bounce:

The pressure is on Elena Bovina to improve her play so she can be included on the Russian team in future Fed Cup ties. There are several young Russinas nipping at her heels to replace her on the Fed Cup team. It will be interesting to see if she can hold them off.
