Elena Dementieva (15) def. Angelika Roesch 6-2, 6-1.
It's only the first round, and her opponent may not have been the fiercest in the draw, but I think Elena must be awfully pleased with the outcome.
Quebec, Sep 22 2002: A Roesch - E Dementieva(2) 7-6(0) 6-7(1) 6-4
New Haven, Aug 25 2002: A Roesch-Q - E Dementieva(8) 6-3 1-6 6-3
Berlin, May 12 2002: A Roesch-Q - E Dementieva(12) 6-4 1-6 7-5
But where does Angelika go from here? She has lost her points sponsor, and is now in that dreaded position where she has to defeat other players than Elena. Horrible prospect.
