I sent this stat to Wertheim for his mailbag. I'm hoping he prints it because I felt it deserved as much recognition as possible.

looks like its a South African thing

Wayne Ferreira is homing in on Edberg's (never missed a slam) record of 53

Wayne's had injuries
twice serious injuries at French Open and both times he got back for Wimbledon (just so he could carry on )

So maybe Mandy goes for 50 @ AO '05? Interestingly, the native speaker of Afrikaans has spent alot of time @ the Hilton Head Island academy of someone else of Dutch ancestry, Dennis van der Meer. (Don't know if he speaks any Dutch dialects, like that Flaming one from BEL). :p

Damn, I wish that Anna could play in just four Grand Slams in a row now. Hell, I think at this point I would just settle for one.

See, this is what sportwriters should be writing about, not the endless hyping of sharapova, ashley H etc.
how about real tennis accomplishments getting some press? that would be nice for a change...

Hmm, well done to her, but I have to admit it was very satisfying watching Petrova force-feed her a tasty bagel-and-sausage combo after she infuriatingly caused Babsi to self destruct on Wednesday.

Petrova must be playing very well to give Amanda a drubbing like that. Will be interesting to see how Nadia does against Lindsay.

6-2,6-4 I predict in Lindsay's favor. Hey, now Amanda can join Stefan Edberg as the 2 good-looking blondes with the most number of consecutive major appearances!
