It was cancelled due to lack of sponsorships, so it couldn't keep the prize money. :sad:
Now it will be turned in to a $25K challenger in September or October.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Estoril Open would be cancelled in some years too, because in Portugal they just see football, football and football.

That's too bad, I liked having those portuguese tourneys... I hope they can keep the Estoril one, since they have a men's tourney too and that way more people attend. Is this for 2003 or for the following years?

I think they are planning to do more challengers to help the Portuguese players with their rankings.

I was wondering what happened to that tournament. Too bad for the Portugese fans. Montolio won last year i think, her ranking must have taken a massive hit!
