View Full Version : Venus at her best!?!?!?

Commentators always mention in a match that Venus isn't playing all the way at her best, even if she is winning pretty comfortably.

I just wonder what you guys think was the time when Venus was playing her best, or as close to 100% as she has ever played on tour????? Also if your fave isn't Vee, post your faves best match.

I think Venus played amazing in her SF against Capriati in the US 2001, at first she started off shaky but down 1-4 she picked it up to an amazing level. Jennifer wasn't even playing badly. I remember a string of like 2 games where Vee had like 5 backhand winners down the line, and they just looked so easy. "Lasers," Johnny Mac called 'em. :worship:

Also it could be during the summer of '00 for Venus. :bounce: I think her match against Lindsay in the Bank of The West classic was one of her best. Also against Monica in some summer finals and against Martina and Davey in the US. She just didn't make careless errors, and her forehand looked steady, she would mostly make errors that were close to being in when she was going for a winner. Her serve was hard and well placed. I remember in her final at the Acura with Monica she had like 5 or so second serves over 100 mph. She was just full of confidence then....... :)

That picture reminds of the Venus of 2000. Please Vee, get back to your former self.

I can't really remember that well but I'd saw Wimbledon '01. She looked so calm and collected. Absolutely beautiful. I say the same for USO '01. The same calm, elated look.

I think her best match EVER was the 2001 Acura final. She beat Monica 6-2 6-3...and it was unbelievable. She was totally in the zone.

What Venus had in the 2000/2001, and even last year [except against Serena] was this unbelievable mental toughness. NOTHING fazed her. Now, that has changed.

Venus was hitting the spot at Antwerp this year, but the greenset is very suited to her style of play. I have to say when she won her two US Open titles and Wimby titles was when she was playing her best.

i dont know about martina playing at her best
i always think she's always got more inside her
and sometimes she plays quite badly but still wins

best match i watched?
2002 AO final was a good one. she kept hitting to jenn's backhand with various spins and height and consistency it was so amazing. then she got close and lost it by hitting it to the forehand.

but martina thinks that the 2000 US semis which she lost against venus and the 1999 US semis which she won against venus are among her best matches. havent watched those though.

Hamburg final 2002 against Kim Clijsters was a great match.
Venus played unbelievably well that first set, then she realised that she had put too much energy in that first set and Kim overwelmed her with angles and power.
