The Slam window of opportunity.

When hingis won AO 1999 and so young and at the top of the game, who would have believed then that that was to be the last one.
When Lindsay won AO 2000 and being the force she was and still is, who would have thought the next slam would still be wanting in 2003.
Jen won AO 2000 and titles have eluded her since despite having the kind of game that can win slams.
Venus won USO 2001 and looked poised to sweep the slams in 2002 but did not! She came very close but missed out.

Has that window of opportunity closed on these players? This is by no means intended to put down any of the above players or to term them as "have beens', obviously injury and all sorts of reasons have stood in their way but while they have been close to the next one, it turned out to be so far.
IMO, Kim's and Justine's time has come, Serena had better make merry while the sun shines coz who knows when it will be the last.

as i love to point out, since 2001, jennifer has not won a tournament where she did not beat martina along the way! so if there's anyone who wants martina to comeback on tour, it should be jennifer.

While I tend to agree with what you say, I still maintain that to win a GS you have to be good enough and you have to need a lot of luck.

Those players you stated are definitely good enough to win slams, but i dont think luck is in their way, especially in the volatile years (2000-2001). However now, I think their chance is not looking good simply because serena is too dominating.

You're right....the real champions grab the opportunity when they are in a Grand Slam final. All the ones you have mentioned have been in more than one grand slam final since their last win(cept Jennifer who has won every grand slam final she's been in).

I just hope Venus didn't get discouraged by her 4 runner-up Grand Slam appearances. :sad: She has more in her.....i know it.

Nope. I see great champions changing their game to still compete and win. IMO, Serena and Venus and Jennifer and Lindsay will continue to win slams. Kim and Justine will get theirs, but these three ladies will get it even more.
