Japanese motorcycle star Daijiro Kato died in a Tokyo hospital on Saturday after failing to recover from injuries sustained in the Japan Grand Prix.
The 26-year-old Honda rider suffered serious injuries to the head, chest and neck when he was thrown off his bike after hitting a tyre barrier at Suzuka on 6 April.

Kato, who won the 250cc world championship in 2001, leaves a wife and two children.
