Apr 14th, 2003, 07:52 AM
Zvonareva?

Apr 14th, 2003, 08:03 AM
Amanda Coetzer (it would be nice to see her back on TOP 10) ;)

Apr 14th, 2003, 08:04 AM
I'm asking about new top 10ers... Amanda was a top10er! but yes it's nice when we see a veteran gets back there

Apr 14th, 2003, 08:26 AM
Elena D is finding her way to get back to top ten.
New...I guess...Lena B.

Bovina I think :D

Apr 14th, 2003, 09:34 AM
Zvonareva and Dechy

Apr 14th, 2003, 09:34 AM
Hmm.. I would love to see Sugiyama

i think the players performing really well this year are molik, dechy, zvonareva and harkleroad. bovina and daniilidou seem to be stuck around the #15, #16 rankings. i thought bovina would be a bit higher by now but she has had some bad losses.

i think molik and harkleroad have made better upsets this year than the other 2 but harkleroad did it all in one tournament so i think it is to early to tell how she will do, plus she did it on her best surface. molik i see as a genuine threat performing well on all surfaces so far but she had that injury which may cost her the top 10 ranking this year. zvonareva is doing well but isn't really beating the top 10 players alhough she does usually push them when she plays them.

but realistically if there was to be a new top 10er this year it would have to be bovina or daniilidou because the others aren't ranked high enough, they wouold have to take out a tier one and a couple of tier 2's and perform well in the grand slams.

i think daniilidou is a bit more consistent than bovina and she is ranked higher so i have to say she will be the new member if there is one.

Apr 14th, 2003, 11:10 AM
Bovina and Zvonereva if they can keep consitantly good results, which at the momment they are failing to do. Also Vera is in limbo at the momment, being able to beat top 20 players but finding it tough against top 10.

Apr 14th, 2003, 11:18 AM
Zvonareva, Kuznetsova, Bovina... just say Russian girls!

Apr 14th, 2003, 11:19 AM
there's a huge gap between #11 and #12 now of nearly 500 pts and closer to 700 to where Eleni is.

unless there are long term injuries i don't see anyone new getting into top 10 in 2003.

maybe 2004

Apr 14th, 2003, 05:56 PM
ANgelique Widjaja..... Wishing on a star!! LOL

Apr 14th, 2003, 06:57 PM
i believe you mean playes who have never entered TOP 10 before,
TOP 5 never to enter TOP 10,
in fact only 11 people out of TOP 30 never entered TOP 10,
if you count TOP 11, that's 9 people,
so in TOP 30, out of present TOP 10,
only less than 50% never reached #11 or higher,
TOP 5 never to be called "former TOP 10"
1. Danillidou
2. Bovina
3. Sugiyama
4. Shaughnessy
5. Pistolesi

Danillidou and Bovina are about 550 pts from TOP 10,
not to say that they cant,
but for Danillidou, a clay/grass specialist like Justine,
she better does it by Wimbledon..........

Bovina has a lot less points to defend till US Open,
which of course is her best showing at a Slam,
and where her career takes off.........
but 550 pts is still a big gap,
that's like a Tier I title...........

Ai had a good run in Scottsdale to win a Tier II title,
beating Lindsay and Kim,
Meghan can still rebound.............
and we are still wondering is Anna can repeat
or rather defend, her run last yr.........

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:09 PM
than of course, we have to look at the quality points.....
let's look at TOP 3 quality points earner outside TOP 11,

why TOP 11, coz TOP 10 round up TOP 10 quality points, (all >800)
with #11 Dokic having the highest quality points outside TOP 10, (700+)
which just goes to show you how consistent
the present TOP 10'ers are
the rest of the gang got QP<700

1. Sugiyama
2. Bovina
3. Danillidou

so dont forget about Ai.............
she is the only one with a Tier II title to never enter TOP 10,
and she is a smart player,
but these 3 people pack ranked from 15-17,
is almost the certain bet to enter TOP 10,
though the present TOP 10 is as consistent as it can get,
remember the TOP 12 players feature TOP 10 of last
2 yrs i think.............
who is to say they can break in there,
they do have a chance..........
but as we all know, chances a lot of times dont get fulfilled.....

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:26 PM
last thing to look at is win over TOP 12 (TOP 10 + Dokc/Seles),
i'm only picking Ai/Eleni/Elena.......
coz Meghan and Anna P are about 1000 pts away from TOP 11,
so it's a real steep climb for them.........

Serena 0-2
Venus 0-7
Justine 0-2
Dokic 1-1
03 Antwerp R32 7-5 5-7 6-3
Myskina 2-1
01 Wimbledon R64 2-6 6-4 6-3
01 Gold Coast R16 7-5 6-3
Hantuchova 1-0
02 San Diego R32 6-4 1-6 7-5
Davenport 1-7
03 Scottsdale R16 7-6(5) 4-6 6-3

but interestingly to see how well she does against retrievers
Ai Sugiyama (JPN) vs. Kim Clijsters (BEL) 3-2
2000-05-29 Roland Garros Clay R128 Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 6-2 3-6 6-2
2000-10-30 Leipzig Indoor Carpet R32 Kim Clijsters (BEL) 6-0 6-2
2001-03-05 Indian Wells Hardcourt R16 Kim Clijsters (BEL) 6-4 4-6 6-2
2001-07-30 San Diego Hardcourt R32 Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 6-3 6-3
2003-02-24 Scottsdale Hardcourt F Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 3-6 7-5 6-4

Ai Sugiyama (JPN) vs. Jennifer Capriati (USA) 3-3
1997-03-31 Hilton Head Clay R32 Jennifer Capriati (USA) 6-1 6-0
1997-11-10 Philadelphia Indoor Carpet R32 Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 6-1 6-2
1998-08-03 San Diego Hardcourt R32 Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 5-7 6-2 6-2
2000-01-17 Australian Open Hardcourt QF Jennifer Capriati (USA) 6-0 6-2
2002-08-05 Los Angeles Hardcourt QF Ai Sugiyama (JPN) 6-3 6-3
2002-08-12 Montreal Hardcourt R16 Jennifer Capriati (USA) 6-1 7-5

so 5-20 against TOP 12 without Kim and JenC record,
including then 11-25........but we still have remember
in 97/98 JenC was just coming back,
and Kim was only 16 when she 1st met Ai and lost 3 sets,
so is this good enough to hit TOP 10?........i say no.......

Bovina vs
Venus 0-1
Kim 0-1
Justine 0-4
Davenport 0-4
Mauresmo 0-1
Rubin 0-1
Hantuchova 0-2
Myskina 1-0
2003-01-06 Sydney Hardcourt R32 Elena Bovina (RUS) 6-3 7-5
Dokic 1-1
2002-08-26 U.S. Open Hardcourt R64 Elena Bovina (RUS) 6-3 6-2
TOP 10 record 2-15,
1 win vs TOP 10............
u tell me if this is good enough......

Danillidou vs
Serena 0-2
Clijster 0-2
Justine 1-0
2002-06-17 's-Hertogenbosch Grass SF Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 4-6 7-6(9) 6-3
JenC 0-3
Lindsay 0-1
Mauresmo 1-1
2002-06-17 's-Hertogenbosch Grass QF Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 6-4 6-4
Rubin 0-1
Hantuchova 1-1
2002-08-05 Los Angeles Hardcourt R32 Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 6-4 6-2
Myskina 0-2
Dokic 1-1
2003-02-03 Paris Indoor Hardcourt QF Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 6-1 6-3
Seles 1-1
2002-09-09 Bahia Hardcourt SF Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) 6-1 7-5
record vs TOP 12 is 5-15
arguably better than Bovina,
but to enter TOP 10.......well, i have to say no........

in comparison.........
the better record holder is actually Ai, rather than Eleni/Elena,
who most people will think have a better chance,
but these 3 are no doubt most likely to enter TOP 10,
not will, but most likely, comparatively speaking of course...:)

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:27 PM
I pick Vera Zvonareva. She has a lot of talent and very good nerves.

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:36 PM
many said Vera.......
well, guess how many wins she has over TOP 12.....0 is the answer,
to be more clear, her wins over TOP 10 is 0-4,
over TOP 20 is
over slumping Patty last week in 3 sets,
more than 2 yrs ago over Bovina in 3 sets,

like Bob said, she is hyped to be better than she actually is.....
maybe she will hit TOP 10 some day, but i dont see it in the near future

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:40 PM
Only Eleni and Miss Bovina have a realistic chance of reaching Top 10 this year...

Eleni will have to play exceptionally well because she has a reasonable amount to defend this summer... it's not much, but it will be tough for her to gain 700 points.

As for Miss Bovina, as I said in a previous post after her 200 pt Australian Open result... she did not need much to reach Top 10 by the US Open. Just live up to her seeding in most tournaments, and have 1 tournament where she beat a couple higher ranked players... it would have been enough.

Of course, that was assuming she'd get by the 1st round these last few months. Silly me.

Now, Lena needs a huge performance in a GS, or win a couple Tier I's or II's to reach Top 10 by US Open. Most likely, that's not happening... and she better get her act together, because she's not gonna be lucky enough to get another 330 points at US Open this year... then, bye bye Top 25.

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:42 PM
It probably will be Shaughnessy.

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:42 PM
it's better to accept TOP 10, or even TOP 12 as it is now
than to think there will be anyone threatening their position,
the only one possible to do that a year ago was Rubin,
and she did it by playing better than some of the TOP 10 players,
why consistent? coz all TOP 12 players have 10+ wins
over TOP 10 players, and all possess Tier I title except
the newly returned TOP 10 Myskina...............

so show me a F in Tier I or title in Tier II,
everything else......or you can pretty much
forget about the TOP 10

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:49 PM
Bovina's record is 2-a lot vs. Top 10 players too... Pfff... I said I was supposed to stop talking about her. :p

Apr 15th, 2003, 06:15 PM
Bovina's record is 2-a lot vs. Top 10 players too... Pfff... I said I was supposed to stop talking about her. :p
dont think she will reach there quite yet,
she'll probably hit TOP 15 soon.......but after US Open,
she'll be falling for sure unless she wins a big one soon......

Apr 15th, 2003, 07:47 PM
I think Bovina can really do it. She is very talented and her US Open performance really showed it. She's going to need to improve because first round loses are not cute at all for her rankings. She will also need to do better at the US Open to defend her points and get some GS points to add to her ranking. It would also help if she can actually win a couple of tier ii events and make it far in a tier i event, too. there are still 2 other grand slams in which she should do well in. i don't remmeber how well she did at last year's RG and W buti don't recall having heard anything big so she can accumulate more points if she does well enough in hose two GS.

Apr 15th, 2003, 07:55 PM
Lena lost 1st round in RG to Silvia Farina.

2nd rd Wimbledon to Panova.

All Lena had to do to reach Top 15, after Patty Schnyder lost her Charleston points, was win 1 FUCKING ROUND in Miami or Charleston. But that's Lena for you. Ms. Inconsistency.
