Starts tomorrow with all the usual suspects - presumably - taking part ('presumably' because the Tennis Europe site hasn't updated the acceptance lists since March).

So, good luck to:

Main Draw - Elena, Anne and Julie.

Qualifying - Lucie and Jane.

Apr 13th, 2003, 04:52 PM
good luck to them all

Apr 13th, 2003, 06:00 PM

Apr 14th, 2003, 12:02 PM
First Round Qualies;

Good Luck Jane

Nice one Jane!

As Lucie is ranked above the highest ranked player in qualifying, we can assume she's in the main draw, if she's playing here at all.

Apr 14th, 2003, 07:57 PM
Elena Baltacha (5) vs. Olga Blahatova
Anne Keothavong vs. Bianka Lamade
Lucie Ahl vs. Selima Sfar
Julie Pullin vs. Sanchez-Alayato
Jane O'Donoghue vs Marta Domachowska

Jane won 6-0 6-0 in qualifying final round, an excellent result from Jane

Apr 14th, 2003, 10:11 PM
Well Done Jane:)

Good luck to all the brits in the maindraw they'll need it!

Apr 15th, 2003, 03:02 PM
I will be a bit upset if we don't see at least 1 brit in Round 2. What do Blahatova, Lamade, Sanche-A, Domachowska & Sfar play like on clay?

I will be a bit upset if we don't see at least 1 brit in Round 2.
As there's at least one in each quarter of the draw, I'll be a bit upset if we don't get all British semis! LOL

OK , perhaps a bit too ambitious.

Apr 15th, 2003, 07:52 PM
selima is a clay court specialist, although as she is playing crap at the moment is anything but 'special' - but Lucie is horrendous on clay, no idea why she isn't in Mexico or Asia.

Sanchez-Alyato is a clay specialist, and she's Spanish.

Lamade, i'm not sure if she's a clay-court specialist, but she's very comfortable on this surface.

Blahotova, has played 2 brits this year, and lost both times (in fairness she gave Hannah a w/o but it all counts!). No idea on this one, but is probably happier on the red stuff than Elena.

Marta - doesnt matter now really, as she hammered Jane 62 62 :(

Apr 15th, 2003, 08:08 PM
OMG Selima is a clay court specialist???  she sucked so horrible last year on it, I thought she would have been specialist on grass.

Anyways, Come on Lucie :bounce: win this match :D

Apr 15th, 2003, 08:54 PM
Isn't Sfar a serve vollyer?

Colin B
Apr 16th, 2003, 07:39 AM
For the record:

(Q)Sanchez Alayeyo d. Pullin 6-4 6-2
(Q)Domachowska d. (Q)O'Donoghue 6-2 6-2

but on a lighter note:

Ahl/Sfar d. (2)Duebbers/Mouhtassine 6-2 7-6(8)

Apr 16th, 2003, 10:55 AM
Jane :(

Apr 16th, 2003, 11:02 AM
I really hope Lucie, Anne & Elena win. This is so far a really disappointing tournament

Apr 16th, 2003, 11:26 AM
Lamade def. Keothavong 6-2 7-5.
Now we have to rely on 5th seeded Elena and underdog Lucie. Let's hope they put in a good performance!!!!

Apr 16th, 2003, 02:38 PM
Good Luck Bally and Lucie :bounce:

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:26 PM
Elena lost in 3 sets 5-7 7-6 6-2
Lucie won in 3 sets (can't remember score) she won the last 2 sets 6-1 6-0 though

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:28 PM
Elena lost 5-7 7-6(3) 6-2 which is very disappointing, as seh had 11 break points, 7 of which came in the second set, but she could only take 5 in teh whole match :fiery: However her 1st serve % was very high, which is a good sign. Disappointing to see her collapse in the final set.

Looking at the stats, Anne didn't play well at all, but Lamade is a cracking player so it's not too huge a shock.

Well done Lucie :D Wonder if Nick Brown is beginning to regret his choice? Sfar is not a complete serve-volleyer although that is part of her game, she is based in France, and does most of her training on clay. The Tunisian federation specially built a stadium for her, and it is meant to hold a 50k event in a few weeks, but it might not go ahead coz of the whole war thing.

Lucie plays the top seed Ondraskova tomorrow, and that will be very tough - but you never know, Lucie could make her first QF of the year if she plays well!

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:34 PM
I hope Nick Brown is regretting his choice!! But I bet he isn't really bothered.

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:35 PM
Good Luck to Lucie

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:36 PM
lol, well the fact its red clay is always a good excuse for a fed cup captain!!

If we drew Ireland that'd help alot, Elena could see off Liggan in 3 sets i think, although it'd be close, and Anne would have no trouble with Doyle who is useless on clay!

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:52 PM
Britain will probably draw Switzerland or South Africa knowing our luck, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Apr 17th, 2003, 11:41 PM
Lucie (partnering Selima Sfar) are in the Doubles semis after a W/O against Weis/Wolfbrandt.
Can she salvage a bit of British pride in an otherwise disappointing week?

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:06 PM
and tehy won again today.

Ahl/Sfar bt (3)Maes/Zaric 7-6(3) 6-2 :D

Apr 18th, 2003, 09:38 PM
:bounce: :D @ Lucie & Selima

Good Luck for the final

Apr 18th, 2003, 10:31 PM
Wow Go Lucie/Selima!

Paul Yvonne leads Anne 3-1 in head to head to my knowledge,Anne always seem to loose to her!

Apr 18th, 2003, 11:24 PM
I agree with Paul, Anne could easily see Yvonne Doyle off now. She is crap on clay plus, the last time they played, Anne did win. Her game has imroved so much since they last played eachother so i think Anne can eaily bet her nowadays

Apr 19th, 2003, 02:21 PM
realistically Elena isn't gonan win any of ehr matches, as the other countries #1 player are almost all superior to her on clay.

I think Anne should be able to cope with many of the #2's, so it will probably come down to the doubles each time.

Apr 20th, 2003, 12:31 AM
and tehy won again today.

Ahl/Sfar bt (3)Maes/Zaric 7-6(3) 6-2 :D

...and will play Beygelzimer/Zaporozhanova in the final.

Go Lucie and Selima!

Apr 20th, 2003, 06:16 PM
Doubles Final
Ahl/Sfar def. Beygelzimer/Zaporozhanova
6-1 6-1

Congratulations Lucie & Selima, Well Done

Apr 20th, 2003, 06:18 PM
Here is Britains group; and I think that Elena could beat all their countries number 1's except Mandula.
Hungary (Mandula & Kapros)
The Netherlands (Oremans & Boogert)
Poland (Sakowicz & Domachowska)
Ireland (Liggan & Doyle)

I think that both Elena & Anne could win nearly all their matches, except against Hungary.

Ahl/Sfar def. Beygelzimer/Zaporozhanova
