View Full Version : Although LINDSAY lost, I see many POSITIVES in today's match

1. After a demoralizing first set, 6-1, she CAME BACK and didn't give in to negativity
2. Broke Serena
3. Actually got Serena to play a bit more conservatively by challenging strongly.. this is a key to beating her, I think
4. AFter her serve being off, stayed with it to regain her service form in the second

YAY LINDSAY ! She fought hard today

I thought Serena was only broken once. I could be wrong, though.

no breaks on Ree's serve first set, 1 break on Ree's serve in second set cuz it was 3-1 Ree, Lindsay holds for 3-2, breaks for 3-3, holds for 4-3, Ree holds for 4-4, Lindz holds for 5-4, Ree holds for 5-5, Ree breaks for 6-5, serves it out 7-5. :D

c2,
I know that Serena was up in the 2nd at, 3-1. LD held serve(2-3), then she broke(3-3), then she held (4-3) until 5-5 in that second set.

Lindsay only broke her 1 time to even it 3-3 in the 2nd set then she held serve for 4-3, it was on serve until Serena broke her to go up 6-5 and served for the match!!

IMO, Lindsay always has challenged Serena in their matches. It's just that Rena wins most of the times. I see that Lindsay is more positive, but sometimes she still mopes every once and a while. Rena makes her opponents feel alot of pressure when she is playing well. Rena's speed and her sheer will to win can be intimidating.

But I do feel that Lindsay is a threat to Rena everytime they go on the court. Big L and Capriati, and Venus are the ones who can challenge Rena, but something in her mind will not allow her to lose anymore. Lindsay did a good job at trying today though. I say she is progressing quite well. :D

It was awhile ago so I can't remember exactly; he would just come into threads, even cheering threads and bash other players. It wasn't good enough to cheer his own on, he had to bash others too  I'm too old for that immature s*** :D

lindsay was moving better and did not shoulder slump too much.

she was hitting some great returns. she just needs to hold serve more bc serena will hit aces and pressure her.

I think if Lindsay would have to won a set this would have shown some promise, I think this is the next step for her so she can join Kim, Jenny and Venus as the players who are closest to Serena.

I cant wait to see how Justine does tommorow, it will really show where she is at, right now in relation to the Williams'. If she plays like she did in the AO against Venus however she will not. Perhaps the clay will suit her better.

I give Lindsay alot of credit, I was feeling sorry for her the way Serena was smacking those returns in the first set. Given Lindsays ability to get really down on herself I agree with c2 that she can at least take that much from the match. Really there was nothing she could have done in the first set, Serena was on fire, but she hung in there and made the second set close.

i guess serena is really on fire...... but good resistance by Lindsay there :)

lindsay also i think needs to practice closing out sets when she is up 5-4.

she was up 5-4 also i think against serena at the us opena dn lost that set 7-5 i think.

the same with venus, she needs to start winning some of the tiebreakers against serena.

serena can be beaten. im so sick of these players giveing all these games to her with errors.

She was up 5-2 in the second set of the Usopen match and held 3 set points on Serena´s serve at 4-5.

Jelena broke Serena's serve aswell, except she didnt hold her serve that much. She held at 0-1 in the first set. 0-1 1-1.

I meant to say she broke at 0-1 in the first.

breaking serena's serve isnt that big a deal, whats more important is that linds leveled the match in the 2nd, even if she didnt pull it out. no big deal, im not disappointed, no one seems to be able to beat serena at the moment so well :) her luck will run out some day this year and hopefully linds will then be on the other side of the net ;)

The problem is that, when you have a backhand into the open court for a set-point against Serena, you have to make it (5-4 30-30 2nd set). Of course it's entirely possible that Serena would save that set-point with an ace, like she did at the break-points in the final game. But you will never find out if you miss that backhand.
There's NO way Lindsay will beat Serena if doesn't take the few chances she will get. :(

Lindsays working her way back to the top - she showed today she can still hit with serena itys only a matter of time before she gets closer to the win - she's got the game

correct me if I am wrong but isn't Serena's h2h with Lindsay 8-2

GoDom is right the few chances you get against Serena, you have to pounce on them but NO ONE has been able to lately.
