Go Mary! She'll face the dechy-Henin victor in the QF.

btw, the second set tank strategy is working really well for her. ;)

She has never played Justine, and has beaten Dechy in all three meetings. However, it's worth noting that all her matches with Dechy came pre-injury. Good luck, Mary. ;)

Rebecca, I would have to try pretty hard for it to make less sense. :D

Mary

This is obviously a sign that she has worked on her fitness...two three setters in a row...WOW

Has anyone seen this match or read a report of it? Was Mary in the zone in the third (as only Mary can be)? or did Amanda go away?

I hope Mary has time traveled back to her 2000 FCC zone and is going to race through the rest of the field.

Allez Mary

This might show that Mary really improved her fitness. She doesn't own the six-pack yet, but she survived two three-setters from speedy players who never give free points

Well done Mary ;)

Yes, she won two three set matches. But in both cases, she tanked the second set after getting behind in order to conserve her energy. I mean, no I did not see the match, but it was pretty obvious what's going on there.

Anyway, you would do well to remember that just a couple weeks back Pierce was talking about how she wasn't fit enough. One cannot overhaul their fitness in a matter of a week or two, no matter how hard they work.

But the only thing that matters is that she won. and it is true that she beat two fast players that wouldn't give it away.

Mary killed Amanda....who DOESN'T get tired and DOESN'T miss. Mary was obviously in her
'ball smacking mode' - where she dictated every point, smacking winner after winner.

I feared for a bit that Mary would never be back, but she now seems in track back to the top, where she belongs. I hope she can stay injury free, keeps working on her fitness (which has improved a lot since the AO) and has a good clay season. The tour needs people like Mary :)

That's really, really good stuff from Mary-Nastya and Amanda have had solid years and are not at all off-form. Hopefully she carries this form against Justine and the rest of her career :)
