Serena Williams reacts after being presented with a trophy by the WTA tour for winning the past four grand slam events, Wednesday, April 9, 2003, after Williams defeated Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar 6-3, 6-0 in the second round of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C.

Something else to add to the trophy case. They really didn't specify what the Award was actually for besides winning the last 4 slams. Is this something new? Or have they done this in the past?

Here are pics from her match as well.....She looks like she steps out on the court to take care of busniess, and then she gets herself backtogether, in glamour mode, and leaves the premisis.

Notr much of a trophy for winning 4 slams, it should be gold or diamond encrusted. ;)

Well it was a nice thing for the WTA to do, especially if they just made the award up to give to Serena. Personally, I would have liked to see Serena get the sportsmanship award in spite of the Emilie Loit incident plus the one below.

I wonder if the timing of the award has anything to do with the fact that the WTA has a new CEO. It was somewhat "predictable" that Serena would achieve the SERENA SLAM in Australia. It would have been classy for the WTA to honor her then, at a big venue, for her achievement. Instead, it seemed like there was a lot of bickering over the legitimacy of the accomplishment being called a grand slam.

Someone finally got his/her head out of the sand and decided to reward this accomplishment.

i completely agree. i have been quite irritated by the relative lack of celebration by the WTA and others of this seminal event. the woman won four grand slams in a row. just bec she made it look so damn easy is no excuse for just taking it for granted! and what an ugly trophy! grrrrrrr.....

go Serena. you show 'em girl :worship:
