View Full Version : Kournikova chosen first in World Team Tennis draft

Anna Kournikova was the top player selected in the World Team Tennis draft Wednesday, by the Kansas City Explorers. Boris Becker will make his debut in the league in July after being chosen by the New York Buzz. The Philadelphia Freedoms picked Martina Navratilova. Andy Roddick will return for the St. Louis Aces, while James Blake will play again for the Hartford FoxForce. John McEnroe is back with the New York Sportimes, formerly the New York Hamptons. McEnroe will team up with brother and team co-owner Patrick McEnroe. The 10-team league, which also has franchises in Delaware, Sacramento, Calif., and Springfield, Mo., was founded by Billie Jean King and then-husband Larry King in the early 1970s. Each team has two male and two female players who play singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. The season runs from July 7-27, with the finals scheduled for Aug. 23.
