Don't know if this has already been discussed already, but I just checked the Sarasota website and saw that Alicia spanked Conchita (the queen of Clay!) 6-2, 6-1!  :)

Congrats Alicia!!! Keep tearing through the draw!!! :bounce:

I like to know how lopsided that match really was. Does anyone have the stats or actually saw the match?

Alicia is looking good since losing that first set to Barbara Schett a few days ago. Let's see how long she keeps the momentum.

but she'll find it tough getting to the final because all the players left in her half of the draw are great clay courters. suarez, majoli and fernandez have all made it to or past the quarter-final stage at the french open.

Go Alicia, climb those rankings up. :bounce:

Yes, Alicia is surrounded in "clay court specialists" landmines. But she's a tough girl! She's gotten past one specialist (Conchita). She just needs to take it one match at a time. My dream match-up is Alicia-Paola in the semi's. They're both so lovely!

GO LUCK ALICIA! :D

Alicia I am so proud of you! I saw her play in Toronto, and she has a great serve but is just inconsistent at times because she lets her temper get ahead of herself, somewhat like Evie. But Im glad she has been able to regroup and pull off some great results, especially this win over Conchita (6-2 6-1 yikes! :D) GO ALICIA! :D

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: Alicia really has only played one bad match all year in that loss to dokic in straight sets 1-6 4-6, but even that loss was just shortly after the injury break. She's definately showed that shes ready to go up a few levels and break into the top 20 with this win on what i think would be her worst surface so comprehensively

Yeah, I didn't either. I was really shocked to see the scoreline. I mean, I felt that Alicia could pull the upset, but so dominantly?! It made me all giddy! But I did feel a wee bit sorry for Conchita. But just a wee bit! ;)

Alicia is impressing me this year, just like she is everyone else....it really makes you wonder just where she would be now if she didn't get injured.

Again, like a lot of people have already said, i thought that Alicia could beat Conchita - to be honest, i didn't think alicia was really that good on clay, so i was expecting it to be close - but i had no idea that Alicia could beat Conchita that convingly on Conchita's best surface, and what one must think would be Alicia's worst surface.

I truly hope that she continues this wonderful form, and that she can give Australia a top player that it has so desperately needed since the defection of Jelena Dokic.

If Alicia can keep this form up, i find it hard to see how she won't be in the top 30 atleast by the end of the year. One of 2 reasonable grand slam results would go well on the way of assuring that! :)

Good Luck Alicia!!!!

I totally agree....one woman that has survived the system here (Nicole Bradtke...Nee Provis refuted the system)

Eyvonne Cawley is helping these girls....and Marg Court I met a few weeks ago at the Court Cup in Albury.

We threw half a million dollars to support Jelena....and she walked away....Amanda Grahame made semi's of Canberra....Drake-Brockman...Ellwood....Dittman...Godridge etc

I was playing tourneys with Godridge's sister...who was wiping girls 6-0 6-0 lol....she was grunting hitting the ball against a wall in 12/U

This Money could have been spent better while womens sport struggles here (Exception Cathy Freeman.....our Netball team are World Champions....Commonwealth Games Champions.....is that 2 world ch'ships in a row? Biggest female sport in Australia)

Alicia is our only hope....has the looks and the game....If you asked guys Renae Stubbs was....most wouldn't know....but hey Kirstie Marshall (ex-Ski Jump Champ...now politician) was voted in...and asked to leave because she breast fed her 3 week old child as there was no room allocated. "The Child is not an allocated member" or something LOL

Anyway :wavey:

Cheers Kirt

I am tired of people believing Alicias wins are flukes!!

Over the summer she worked on her first step with her foot after the big serve, being on her toes instead of melting to the court.

While everyone else was stuffing themselves stupid over Christmas....Alica was hitting with possible wildcards in a camp before the Hopman Cup at Melbourne Park.

I believe it helped cause her injury....but at least another Aussie Lady is willing to put the hours in!!!! (Excluding the A.I.S that kills our players careers)

Alicia is growing in confidence...and with Cawley supporting her...I know I would dread playing her on fresh grass at Wimbledon.

Shes really done well this year. Winning that convincingly over Conchita on clay, her worst surface, is very impressive. She can be top 40 if she keeps this up.

She beat another clay specialist in Fernandez. Very impressive.

To paraphrase the Foster's commercial:

Molik-- Australian for upset.

I'm glad that Alicia got the win over Clarissa, but it's always sad when it's due to an injury retirement. Alicia was already up a set, so she was doing well. But Clarissa has should tendonitis right now, which can't be fun.

GO LUCK on the rest of the tourney Alicia! Pick up another title on your way up the rankings!!!! :D

This tournament is very very possibly Alicia's to win.

Isn't Rtael lovely? Anyway, who says Alicia can't play on clay? Anyone think she has a legitimate shot against Myskina tomorrow in the final?

I say if she keeps her head together and not get nervous, she could easily beat Myskina if she stays agressive and dictates the points.

Yeah, she's absoutely charming ;)

I think Alicia has a fighting chance against Myskina. I like Myskina, but obviously I REALLY want Alicia to win. If she doesn't, Ah well...

I agree with Kell! :)

The good thing is that Alicia won a title this year already, so she KNOWS she can do it in a final! Also, I think that her string of wins has given her confidence to go out there and do her best.

I like Myskina also, but Alicia is one of my faves and nothing would make me happier than for her to pick up another title so early in the season. She's worked very hard for this (Tier IV) title, should she win it! I mean, which other Tier IV would have her up against clay court specialist after clay court specialist?!

I don't think anyone said Alicia couldn't play on clay (because obviously she can), I think it's just that clay is not her best surface. But maybe she'll prove that she is an all-court player!!!

Anyhow, I'm excited that she's made it to the final of another tourney. And hopeful that she'll have one more win this week!!! :D

Well if Alicia wants to be a big tennis star then she has to learn how to adapt and win on all services........and if that stat that she whacked 17 aces against Majoli yesterday, I would say she is on her way.
