Well Evie managed to get by Zheng today so next up is Pelletier. Let's hope that she can get through that one as well as these may be the points that get her a direct entry into the FO. Evie needs a little luck to fall her way and hopefully that will give her some confidence.

Evie def Zheng 7-6 7-6

I actually thought Evie should have woon this a lot easier than that scoreline. I saw Zheng play Aust Open and she didnt impress me at all. Evie is a far superior player. On the bright side a str8 sets win is still a solid win that should give her a little more confidence. Pelletier will be a lot tougher, hopefully though Evie can get through it. I'm not to worried though about the French Open, I think Evie has almost guaranteed herself a spot in the main draw!

Glad that one of us is feeling confident about the FO MD for Evie. I am a bit concerned because she is sitting at about 106 in the rankings so if a couple of girls behind her have some good results in the next few weeks Evie could just miss out again like with the AO.

Evie does seem to be struggling a bit at the moment. I thought she would have won against Zheng easily. She should be Pelletier, but if she does get thru I think it will be Petrova which will be a tough match.

Evie is 104 on the new ranks 31/3/03

There are a few players above her that are retired like Hingis and Testud plus there are a few other players with large points to defend in the next few weeks.

I dont think Evie has any points to defend until the French so I think she is almost guaranteed her place in the draw!

She qualified for Amelia Island last year so has about 16 or so points there, but thats it (also a couple of small amounts in $50K Japanese tournaments but they are after the cut-off anyway).

Zheng has been playing very well lately and Im not surprised at the score...in fact it wouldnt have been a shock if she won. But Evie was always the fave as she should be.

I hope you are right about the French! No points to defend sounds good!

Was everyone else surprised that Evie was left out of the Fed Cup team in place of Stosur?? Obviously Evie isn't in terrific form at the moment but she is ranked higher than Stosur and I would suggest that clay is her favourite surface. Even if Evie only plays doubles she is unbeaten in Fed Cup ties.

Cawley said it was a relatively easy decision but I'm not so sure about that.

Evie did lose 3rd round of qualifying which wasn't surprising as she was up against Petrova who is a very good player.

Re her ranking. Agree there are a few in front of her with a few points coming off but there are also a few just behind her who are playing this week, one of those being Petrova.

Re Fed Cup. I hadn't given it much thought. I believe that Molik and Pratt are the two obvious choices and I guess Stosur was picked over Evie just because her form has been a bit better this year. Nothing dramatically better mind you, take out AO performance and there is not much difference between the two.

Hoping Evie can do well at her next tournament.

a nice win for evie 63 61 over pelletier but then lost 62 63 to petrova, but that was to be expected petrova should be in top 40 if hadn't been injured so much. Hopoe she can get going again next week in Charleston qualies :lick:
