I think Serena and Justine Henin will do most damage on clay.

Serena is actually going to practise , she said it in her interview this week.
I think the first event Serena enters will be the most important. If she wins that maybe she will be undefeated on clay this season.
I don't really hope she will be undefeated because I want Justine to win Roland Garros.

Hopefully Kim (clay is not her favourite surface) and Seles (if she is healthy she will) will do some damage too.
And Venus and Jennifer are also favourites on clay. Mauresmo too.

Daniela Hantuchova is practicing her clay court slide even as we speak. (On a hardcourt, but at least she's committed.)

of course the regular top 10'ers who are good on clay will all be possible for RG winner, Kim Justine JC, Serena, Venus, Seles....thent here are those dangerous clay court specialists floaters who may pull off upsets, like Majoli, Schnyder and Martinez...but we'll see =D

GO JUSTINE FOR 2003 RG!

monica, of course. :)
actually, i think jenn's form will continually rise (im seeing a pattern with her), venus will want to prove shes still #2, monica can win if she gets a top8 seed (i also think she will win a big warmup title...a hunch), and im not going to count out the belgians. o, and duh, serena. thats5, so i'll stop there.

amelie's a little too inconsistent, daniela is in the middle of a slump, and i dont think she will pull herself out on the dirt, jelena is FAR too inconsistent but could surprise me, and i dont really see chanda doing much if her first serve stays in the low 80's...

Maleeva is a terrible clay court player - the others though can challenge the best

All the clay-court specialists. ;)
And you have your usual top 10 suspects.

I think Henin-Hardenne will really challenge for the title at Roland Garros. Clay is probably her best surface and I will be very suprised if she is taken out before Semis. I am looking forward to her winning this event and hopefully gain more confidence in winning more matches on clay and consequently, grass.

Serena and Venus will need to defend all their points from last year's final so I'm looking forward to seeing them doing well.

I think that the Clay season will be all about Serena and Justine. They have this thrilling clay rivalry that sends shivers up and down my spine!!!

Venus and Jenn are also big powers on clay, and they both are poised to be confident this clay season.

I hope that Patty and Paola have some good results on clay this year, especially Paola. She is such a graceful clay courter and lovely, bubbly individual!!

I look forward to another unpredictable clay success at RG this year. Last year we had Clarissa. Maybe it'll be Paola this year!

As for the title, I think that Serena will be hoisting up that trophy again. She's going to practice. That's a scary prospect, huh?!

Jelena is a very good claycourter.

Why Monica can win if she gets a top 8 seed?
She has been seedeed top 8 last 6 years she has played and has not won :(....

If she gets really fit she can do some damage.A Win is a long shot, but she can take us by surprise. Again its up to her and how fit she is when RG comes.

Serena and Venus seem to know exactly what needs to happen out there on the clay courts. Last has many good examples. Like when Venus played Monica on the clay. I believe that was the first time they played on clay. Venus played very well, she came out prepared, monica was playing well too, but it amazed me that venus was still able to pick her game up, and beat monica in staright sets. I was definetly given that 1 a three set win for venus. Serena also surprised me. Justine when she is on the clay, her shots tend to flow a lot better. Only b/c she has a lot and i mean a lot more time with her shots. But Serena showed that she can still hit outright winners on the red clay. She really last year, didn't let the slower sufrace intimidate her and make her impatient. Which I thought would be a big factor. I would have Serena/Venus, Justine, followed by Jennifer/Kim at equal opportunity. They both made the finals in 2001, anyone could've won that match. But its clear players have picked it up since 2001. It seems the only chance today against the williams sisters, is if they are off. I don't think they will stand a chance against them on the red clay. I say justine has the best shot, but seeing that Italian Open final last year, if Serena plays around the "mid/okay/decent game" she will come out the winner. Sad thing for Justine is, serena could've only played better in that match. With that said, I think Serena is going to continue her sweep. I think she will win the French. Im going to put it like this. Everyone playing top notch their best tennis the entire clay court season. I see serena having her toughest set to be 6-4. Against this is Serena playing her "BEST" tennis.

of other players I think Serena and kim let's take jenifer too have a good shot

More than likely the same players you saw challenge for titles in 2002, you will see this season too.

Hopefully, however, Lindsay Davenport will be in the thick of that too. And I hope a more confident Conchita Martinez or Mary Pierce.

Look forward to also seeing how the Russians do this year. And perhaps Eleni Daniilidou will get back on track too.

Dawn Marie
Mar 31st, 2003, 07:19 AM
Eleni Daniilidou has prospects, if only she can work on that serve and fitness.

Who has a great shot

Venus
Serena
Kim
Jennifer

Who I think does not have a shot in hell

Lindsay
Daniela
Jelena

outside shot

Eleni Danniilidou
Justine Henin
Seles

Even though Jelena and Seles know how to play and win on clay I just feel this is not going to be a good year for them both on clay/Roland Garros this year. I hope I am proven wrong though.

Would you like to eloborate my oh great dawn marie why you think Lindsay does not have a shot in hell?

This better be good..........

Its gonna be Serena and Belgium Belles, I dont see anyone else winning the French.

Dawn Marie
Mar 31st, 2003, 07:34 AM
Jakeev, I feel that she just doesn't like the red clay and partly cause she hasn't done her personal best on the surface. When you dislike a surface, alot of times it can carry over onto the PSYCHE of the player. Maybe her most fierced opponent/obstacle at the French is not human.. but clay? :wavey:

Jakeev
Mar 31st, 2003, 07:41 AM
But Lindsay has done very well on red clay dawn marie, even has three or so titles under her belt, she just has not played enough to really find success.

I think outside her three set loss to Dominique Van Roost in the first round at the French a few years ago, Lindsay's results have actually been rather consistent.

Mar 31st, 2003, 07:44 AM
I think Monica Seles is good at clay Courts!
But we are all shocked about the Serena Perfection, who can beat her is another problem!!
Lindsay Davenport is a hot player to win th title as well as her baselines shots are so powerful!!

But my Mary Pierce is also a dangerous player!!!
Anyone remember she was the most popular player lasy year??
If she can perform 100% in the French Open,it is difficult for each players to deal with her!
I don't mean she will win the title, because her floating performance, but once she can 100% well,it's dificult to face her as well as the ten thousands of auidances!!

Dawn Marie
Mar 31st, 2003, 07:51 AM
Well I am talking about Roland Garros, and frankly I don't think she'll do all that well on the Paris soil. I still give Lindsay a shot in hell to win the French. Sorry.

I am surprised that nobody has asked me about Justine? I think she has the game ans skill but not yet the mental part to take it on home. The same with Momo who I forgot to include. Actually Momo is a prospect but I just don't know, she's fiesty one day and kinda errors prone the next. Which is why I thik Juju won't win it this year, she makes too many errors.. it just seems she is not yet ready.

Who I would like to see win outside of Venus and Chanda(who should be watched)

is Justine,Momo and Coetzer... and Eleni Danni. and of COURSE SELES!!

mark my words: Patty Schnyder will make a big splash at roland garros this year. she has focused on making at least the semis of a grand slam, and when patty is focused then the everybody should watch out, because it really only happens once a year if her fans are lucky. we got two big results last year, and we want a really big one this year. chanda and myriam casanova will also make their marks on the clay this year.

I'll put my hopes on Justine Henin-Hardenne...cos she's my favourite player & I believe in her. Just hope she tries her best will do. :)
