Does anybody know when the British team is going to be announced. I expect it to include Elena, Anne, Julie, Lucie & Jane. But with other commitments other players might get a chance, e.g Sarah Borwell.

Good Luck to Team GB, whoever you may be. :bounce:

Mar 28th, 2003, 08:00 PM
you are only allowed to take 4 players at this level.

So probably:

Anne for singles
Elena for singles
Elena and Julie for doubles

then one other player, either Lucie or Jane.

As it's clay, probably Jane.

Mar 31st, 2003, 03:18 PM
As Elena seems injured i'd say the team will be

Anne and Jane for singles and Julie and someone for doubles.

Mar 31st, 2003, 06:49 PM
I didn't think that Elena's injury was that bad, I hope she isn't out for too long.

P.S Do You like my avatar?

Oh just noticed it!

Very nice

Is there and Anne K one?

Who will play in singles and doubles next week; taking into account performances in Biarritz!
Elena & Anne/Jane for singles
Elena & Jane for Doubles

Julie's form is just too poor, but she will probably play.

Apr 16th, 2003, 07:51 PM
julie and jane will probably take the doubles honours if Ballie isn't 100% fit, if she is, and our survival depends on it, Julie and her will probably play doubles.

This is Jane's first fed cup appearance, so i'd be surprised if she was involved in a live rubber, although Nick Brown is her coach ......

Apr 17th, 2003, 09:15 AM
We best hope that Elena is fit then.
How many teams are in a group and how many teams from that group go to the next stage?

Apr 18th, 2003, 03:47 PM
I think Elena and Anne will play singles and Julie/Jane will be the doubles team.Maybe Julie/Elena if its an important match!

Good Luck in Estoril Team GB!!

Apr 20th, 2003, 04:15 PM
Here's Britains Group;
Great Britain
The Netherlands

That's not too bad, actually I think it is a very good group, Britain (if they perform well) can do well!! :D

Apr 20th, 2003, 04:16 PM
Hollands player form isn't too good.
Ireland, well I didn't think we'd draw them.
Hungary have a good team, who will probably beat GB.
Poland, hopefully Britain could beat thm

So that must mean;
GB v. The Netherlands
Baltacha (157) vs. Oremans (176)
Keothavong (169) vs. Boogert (185)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) vs. Oremans/Boogert (210)

GB v. Ireland
Baltacha (157) v. Liggan (224)
Keothavong (169) v. Doyle (335)
O'Donoghue/Pullin (404) v. Liggan/Doyle (351)

GB vs. Hungary
Baltacha (157) vs. Mandula (78)
Keothavong (169) vs. Kapros (120)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) vs. Mandula/Gubacsi (148)

GB vs. Poland
Baltacha (157) vs. Sakowicz (267)
Keothavong (169) vs. Domachowska (351)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) vs. Jans/Domachowska (514)

Good Luck Girls, You can do it :worship: :D :bounce:

Apr 20th, 2003, 07:10 PM
Well on paper, we stand a chance of winning most of our matches, not sure if that is gonna happen tho

Good luck team GB anyway :worship:

Apr 20th, 2003, 08:18 PM
My predictions;
GB v. The Netherlands 2-1
Baltacha (157) def.Oremans (176)
Keothavong (169) def. Boogert (185)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) lose to. Oremans/Boogert (210)

GB v. Ireland 3-0
Baltacha (157) def. Liggan (224)
Keothavong (169) def. Doyle (335)
O'Donoghue/Pullin (404) def. Liggan/Doyle (351)

GB vs. Hungary 1-2
Baltacha (157) lose to. Mandula (78)
Keothavong (169) def. Kapros (120)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) lose to. Mandula/Gubacsi (148)

GB vs. Poland 3-0
Baltacha (157) def. Sakowicz (267)
Keothavong (169) def. Domachowska (351)
Baltacha/Pullin (417) def. Jans/Domachowska (514)

This is what I think should happen, but things never happen as you would like.

Apr 20th, 2003, 10:16 PM
I think we will beat Ireland and will should beat Poland but they might suprise us. Netherlands is a possib8ility but i don't know about Hungary that is a touhg one!

Apr 20th, 2003, 10:19 PM
I'm nervous now!

O'Donoghue/Pullin (404)
Baltacha/Pullin (417)

Interesting to note that an O'Donoghue/Pullin partnership is rated higher than Baltacha/Pullin, yet is only entered once.
I hope this can be changed once the tournament is underway, especially if they feel Bally needs to be 'rested' for singles.

Apr 21st, 2003, 10:41 AM
That is what the draw should look like, not what it actually is. The doubles is a close one to call because Jane has played a lot more tournaments than Elena and only got a few more points and I think that Jane & Julie will probably play more than once., but if the tie depends on the doubles the Elena & Julie should definately play. I think that the rule is that players can be changed an hour before the match is scheduled to start.

Apr 21st, 2003, 11:34 AM
This will probably be the line up against Holland;
Baltacha vs. Boogert
Keothavong vs. Hopmans

Apr 21st, 2003, 01:55 PM
I was just going to say that Hopmans was playing not Oremans which gives us a better chance agaibst Holland!

Apr 21st, 2003, 02:24 PM
Poland 1 The Netherlands 1
Domochowska lost to Hopmans
Sacowicz beat Boogert

Apr 21st, 2003, 05:33 PM
Gb play Poland tomorrow

Apr 21st, 2003, 07:43 PM
GBR def Ireland 2-1, and lead the group, tomorrow GBR v. POL, who beat Holland 2-1.

Apr 21st, 2003, 08:11 PM
Great Britain, 2 - Ireland, 1
Jane O'Donoghue, GBR def. Yvonne Doyle, IRE, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4)
Kelly Liggan, IRE def. Anne Keothavong, GBR, 6-0, 2-6, 6-0
Elena Baltacha/Julie Pullin, GBR def. Claire Curran/Liggan, IRE, 6- 3, 6-2

Apr 21st, 2003, 08:14 PM
Looking at those results Jane should replace Anne, I suppose that Mr Brown must have played Jane because it was only against Ireland and that Elena will play singles tomorrow against Poland

Apr 21st, 2003, 08:43 PM

Yeah but Liggan is a tougher opponent than Doyle!

Apr 21st, 2003, 09:46 PM
I know that but Anne's result is terrible, that's all. I mean if it was Elena that had lost by that scoreline we'd all be wanting her replaced.

Apr 22nd, 2003, 01:18 PM
Marta Domachowska def. Jane O`Donoghue 6:4, 3:6, 6:0
Anne Keothavong v. Joanna Sakowicz

Apr 22nd, 2003, 02:48 PM
Anne Keothavong def. Joanna Sakowicz
6-3 6-3

Good Luck to Elena & Julie in doubles

Apr 22nd, 2003, 07:18 PM
GBR def. POL 2-1

Apr 23rd, 2003, 07:18 PM
GBR lost to Hunagry:sad: but not unexpected

Anne lost 7-6 7-6 which isn't bad
Elena lost in straight sets
Jane/Julie lost 6-3 6-0:o

Apr 23rd, 2003, 08:45 PM
What started of as a nice week, is slowly becoming more nervewracking, let's just hope that Hungary beat Poland and GBR defeat The Netherlands, or start panicking!
Also, that doubles result is terrible, that is a vital rubber that should have been won!!!! :fiery: Bad Luck Anne & Elena

Apr 24th, 2003, 03:37 PM
Come on GB!!! We need to get back in the FED Cup!!

Apr 24th, 2003, 05:52 PM
HUN def. POL 2-1
Domochowska def. Czink
Mandula def. Sakowicz :D
Mandula/Gubacsi def. Domochowska/Sakowicz :bounce:

Apr 24th, 2003, 09:15 PM
NED def. IRE

So, Britain must win to advance to the next stage and if they lose they are relegated to group 2. And from looking at previous draws, I haven't a clue who the Netherlands might play, so we'll just have to wait and see....

Give 'em hell GBR.. :D :D

Apr 24th, 2003, 09:29 PM

I feel like flying to Estoril 2nite to support them!
