Totally agree Cybelle. I've just watched the match on Eurosport and Meghann played absolutely amazing  If she plays like that again, she'll beat Jennifer in two.

It was just a typo - if you had bothered to look at what I had posted, not just the number at the bottom of the screen, you would have noticed that I have 6 matches written down. Instead, you just wrote exactly what I had written down again.

Congratulation to Meghann on a match well played and a win well deserved.
If she plays, according to reports, as flawless against Jennifer as she did Venus, then I think this match will be more than just interesting.
I think Jennifer will be victorious, though! ;)

I'm going with Jen. Great win over Venus. Meg has been playing good solid tennis this year, but I don't think she will be able to beat Jen.

After Meghann beat Venus at Stanford in 2001 she lost to Clijsters in the next round..so hopefully she has learned from the "high mental and fatigued state after having such a high win then losing the next match syndrome" lol (that always happens to players) but I think it could be different this time around. In 2001 both were in the top of their game and Jenny won those meetings in straight sets. Now I think Jennifer is different then when she won her French Open that year but in her last match she looked like she was on fire and maybe back on track? But I could see Meghann losing this match (how dare I say this!?) lol but I could also see her winning it. I also agree that it depends on which Meghann Shaughnessy shows up. I will be of course rooting for her as always. :)

Jennifer will win. I saw Meghann play agsinst Jennifer at the 2002 USO and if her serve is pathetic tomorrow as it was when I saw them play, Jennifer could win a set 6-0. Venus' second serve and weak forehand did her in. Jennifer has a weak second serve too (worse than Venus') but a great forehand and I don't think Meghann will be able to get over that.

If its a night match I'll favour Meghann as Jenn somehow unable to perform her best at nite...

But since it is a day match now, I'll favour Jenn!!!

Shaughnessy beefs up

If it looks like Meghann Shaughnessy, who plays Capriati today in the quarterfinals, is stronger than earlier in her career, there is good reason. Two years ago, tired of feeling like a wimp among her powerful American peers, she enrolled in Mark Verstegen's Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Ariz. Verstegen's athlete boot camp is where UM quarterback Ken Dorsey, soccer star Mia Hamm and Hamm's fiancé, major-leaguer Nomar Garciaparra, went when they wanted to get truly fit. Shaughnessy bulked up 15 pounds and credits Verstegen for her improved serve, strength and stamina. ''Women's tennis is becoming more and more physical,'' she said. ``I felt like I needed to take my physical [game] to another level. My entire body has changed. I've gotten much stronger, faster, more endurance, more flexible. I know . . . there's not anybody that's going to beat me because I got tired or wasn't fast enough.''
