rankings are lookin good, kim i now can say won't be catching up w/ venus. her draw is easy, she will end up being stopped in the semis, venus should be in the finals, and i hope she wins the tournie. Minimum she should havea round 5100pts, she could end up leaving w/ around 5300pts. Taking off hamburg, Venus' only clay tournie last year besides the french. Venus should safely be around 5000pts and kim around 4100pts. Add Rome and J&S For Venus, and She could end up w/ around 5800pts going into the french which would be good. Kim I doubt can even get close to 5000pts by the time the French Starts :)

SerenaSlam - Kim and Venus' rankings aren't comparable. Kim plays a LOT more than Venus. Besides, Kim says she doesn't care about rankings, and given that VEnus only has 13 tournaments right now, she clearly doesn't much care about it either. They both have a bigger problem.

You can't say that Venus' ranking doesn't matter, while saying that Seles' ranking is indicative of a "wanna-be" elite player...
The real winners of this week are Eleni and Elena B... where many around them did.

Chanda d Amelie 6-0 6-2. She's temporary #9, at least til Dokic wins (Did I write that?)
Leena - You're right. Venus' ranking matters just as much as Monica's. My point was really that SerenaSlam was excessively worried about it. Venus isn't scheduling like she's worried about holding her ranking. If she's going to only play 13 or 14 tournaments a year, I have to conclude she intends to defend her ranking by quality not quantity. So why worry about it.
That 'wannabe-elite' remark referred to results, not ability. Seles, Schnyder and Maleeva all have proven to have top ten ability in the past. Shaughnessy was close, and Daniilidou and Bovina are inevitable top tenners, barring injury. But that whole group is several hundred points back of the top eleven.
