Does she have potential? I saw her play against Venus, and she wasn't completely blown away, considering her ranking.

I think she has a lot of potential.Shes only been playing tennis full time for about 3/4 years so she'll take a few more years than Bally and Anne to develop.I'm sure she can get to the top 200 but i don't know how much higher she can go.In some ways she's similar to Lucie Ahl very up and down results. She hasn't really made a big breakthrough in a 25k her best results are 2 QF but she is still learning.

yeah she spent most of 2001 and the start of 2002 with a bad injury, so is only starting to come abck to full fitness.

Three things that I find encouraging about Jane:

She chose to qualify for several $25K tournies last season rather than playing loads of $10Ks to build up her ranking; that shows she has ambition.

Those two QFs came in tournaments where she was just about the only British entrant, so she plays well away from the cosy little world of the British Challenger circuit.

Unusually for a British player, she's not affraid of the 'red stuff'; so hopefully she can make an impact on the european clay court circuit which is my favourite part of the tour.

Yes she is our best player on clay.

Winning those 2 10k's and loads of wins in about 6/7 25k's last summer.

For me she needs to get to semi at least in a 25k otherwise she's going to get stuck in the rankings aorund where she is now.

What i would love is her to take a chance in some european clay court events in April and May to get her ranking up quickly!

A big test for Jane over the next few months is defending the points of winning the 2 10k's.As shes playing bigger events getting the points need less wins but they will be tougher!

Jane was very good against Venus considering at the time she was not even in the top 300!!! She has a very good backhand.

I think she can make it, but she herself said that she is going to be a late developer, and maybe be playing her best at 23/24.

Mar 23rd, 2003, 10:42 PM
True shes only been playing seriously for about 3/4 years and been injured a few times during that!

Mar 24th, 2003, 05:53 AM

She had a bad loss last week in a 10k as the 3rd seed she lost to a WC.
