Jeff- Rankings are really cool....nice job! Can't wait to see the Aus Open draw...oh, and which round's scores are going to be used for the 1R of VWTT...I would think it'd be 1R of the Aus Open, but in Sydney it wasn't...

Yes, all first round results will be based on first round results at the Australian Open. The reason first round results weren't used at the Adidas International, is because some players had byes.

Here is how rounds will be decided:

First round: First Round Results at the Australian
Quarterfinal: Third Round Results at the Australian
Semifinals: Quarterfinal Results at the Australian
Final: First Round through Final Round results at the Australian.

The Aussie Draw will be up shortly ;)

Thank you, Jeff!

Am I wrong, or didnīt play Martina Navratilova only 2 tourneys even in singles?

Jeff
Jan 30th, 2002, 02:21 AM
Tennisfreak, Navratilova competed in 3: Thalgo Women's Hardcourt, Adidas International, and Australian Open. Although being disqualified at the Australian Open, I still counted it as her playing there, because she was put into the draw and earned 2 points for being in the first round.

Singles updated through Feb. 18. These are the rankings that will determine who will play in Scottsdale and who will play in Mexico. Singles rankings will be updated again after the final results of Dubai are posted later on tonight (Saturday). The next rankings will determine the seedings for Indian Wells.

Martina Navratilova is #18, so she has to play Acapulco, right?

Is there any possibilty to get into the maindraw of Scottsdale as a Lucky Loser?

What about the doubles? Chanda Rubin will play Scottsdale!

Thanks, Jeff :wavey:

Hi, Jeff! thank's for posting the ranking....unfortunately I'm little bit unhappy, why last week (Dubai) you didn't allowed the new player to involved in the main draw (single) that's make the new player don't have a special treatment from you, because you only focus to the old player (who has a ranking)...especially now in this game you announcing more than one tournament, so ONLY old player who had a high ranking will play at the high Tier tournament! like State Farm this week

One more thing is Angelique Widjaja is Indonesian (INA) not indian (Ind) could you please make a correction, thank's Jeff!
that mistake is on the ranking table!!

Jeff
Feb 25th, 2002, 02:25 AM
Katulampa,

I am not favoring the old players. I treat all players the same, and am glad that you and the other new players joined this game.

The reason you didn't get to play the main draw last week, was because there wasn't enough room in the draw to add you otherwise I would have added you. I could have increased the amount of players playing in qualifying, but I didn't think that would have been fair to everyone to have to go through three rounds of qualifying. I did, however, enter Widjaja, Capriati, Raymond and Lubiani into the doubles draw. That was definetly favoring the new players, being that I was only given a day notice to add you all to the draw.

As far as me making two tournaments a week, again my intentions were not to favor the older players more than the newer players. My intention was to soon be able to run two tournaments a week, but without enough players, I was unable to do so. With more players joining last week, I felt we finally had enough players to run a two tournament a week schedule.

The fact that the higher ranked players play the higher tournaments is not a way of favoring them over you. This is how the real WTA works: the higher the ranking, the higher tournaments you get to play. All player start out at the bottom, and since you are new you start at the bottom. If you do well, then you will play in the top tournaments as well. I figured that was the fun part: trying to win and move up.

I am so happy that Julia Jans has a commanding lead at no.1! :D

Jeff, why did Jans and Maleeva-Fragniere have to qualify if they have a combined ranking of 4? And in the team results, havn't Maleeva-Fragniere and Jans played more then one tournament? Thanks. You are doing a great job btw. :D

Jeff
Feb 25th, 2002, 09:36 AM
Updated singles rankings again, so now they are "for real" up to date trhough February 24th now :p

Also, by request, I have added the points system I am using for this game. It's the same system the WTA uses for 16 player draws.

I will try and have doubles updated as soon as I can. Doubles takes a long time to do, so, well, yeah that's why they are always the last to be updated ;)

Julia Jans, I know you and Manuela have played 2 (counting Dubai). Have you played with one another more than that?

You've done a great job running this game, Jeff, especially with the point system.

Well done and keep it up.
