Indonesia is downgraded to Group II Asia Oceania Zone for Fed Cup and these are players nominated to practice together from January 4, 2013:

Ayu Fani Damayanti, Lavinia Tananta, Jessy Rompies, Aldila Sitjiadi, Athena Nathalia, Voni Darlina, Vita Taher & Tami Grende...

I do not understand, isn't Jessy going back to South Carolina?

Aldila has entered G1 tourney and Aussie Open GA...

Ten days before February 4, 4 players will be finalized...coach is Suharyadi, Yayuk Basuki's hubby...

FYI, BMW is out from Indonesian tennis map...A new President was elected since BMW was in this position for 2 terms...Enjoy eating your dollars, BMW...So, no more BMW camp...Ayu and Lavinia are on their own now...

Now the focus on Indonesia's junior players:cool:

Tami Grende returned to the tour and ended as runner-up in ITF Malacca Grade 4 but then lost in Q1 at Kuching Grade 1. Now she prepares for Junior Fed Cup Qualifying in Gimcheon next month. Tami will be the second singles in Junior Fed team as her ranked plummeted into 800s as she could not defend points from Kuching & Manila 2012...Deria Nurhaliza will be the first singles as she gained important points in R16 at China Grade 3 recently. Third singles is Arum from Central Java and a student at Ragunan Athlete School based on her achievement to finish number 3 in the national selection.

For sure 2 tourneys to be maintained are Balikpapan 25K & Tarakan 25K in May 2013...:o

Sugi, I know her and her family quite well...After Aussie Open she had to focus on her junior high school examination therefore she did not play at all till now...She will play both 25Ks in Balikpapan & Tarakan and I think she will get wild card...:)

Tennis in Indonesia stuck on the baseline
By Alice Budisatrijo
BBC News, Jakarta

For parents of young tennis players trying to make the grade in Indonesia, a number of sacrifices are needed - from selling the family home, to taking your offspring out of school for home tuition.

Twelve-year-old twin sisters Fitriani Sabatini and Fitriana Sabrina are among the top ranked players in their age group when they appear in tournaments such as the New Armada event in Central Java.

The pair - affectionately known as Ani and Ana by their mother - have been taught at home for a year so they can concentrate on their tennis.

"It was difficult to get the permission to skip classes to go to tournaments," says their mother Yetti "Nur" Mastuti.

"Their teachers were not very understanding."

Home sold

Nur, and the youngsters' tennis coach father Nursalim sold the family home in Jakarta - and now live in rented accommodation - in order to pay tennis travel costs for the young pair.

At least once a month they compete in tournaments, some of them away from their home city.

The youngsters hope to emulate the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, who each went on to become the world's number one player.

When I ask who would achieve this feat first, Ani, the older of the two. quips with a big smile, "The big sister first, of course."

Indonesian hero

But it is a dream that is increasingly hard to achieve for Indonesian players.

Indonesia's economic growth is visible in the sprawling new apartments that dot the Jakarta skyline, and the modern buildings come with sporting facilities not previously available to many Indonesians.

Tennis courts are a common feature.

Yayuk Basuki was a successful player in the late 1990s
But the sport is not necessarily more popular today than a few years ago, when Indonesian tennis was a force to be reckoned with, at least regionally.

Yayuk Basuki was Indonesia's biggest tennis star, winning four Asian Games gold medals in the 1980s and 1990s.

She also reached the quarter finals of Wimbledon in 1997, the furthest any Indonesian has ever gone at a Grand Slam event.

Later that year she also become the highest-ever WTF ranked tennis player from Indonesia, reaching number 19.

Pay to play

Today she runs the Yayuk Basuki Tennis Academy, teaching more than 150 under-18-year-olds the fundamentals of the game.

She claims her school charges less than others in Jakarta, because she wants to give everyone a chance to play.

Yayuk's school has trouble finding affordable facilities to use. There are no free public tennis courts in Indonesia.

Even government facilities charge fees, and Yayuk says the fees go up every year.

"We're not asking for free facilities," Yayuk said. "But if I can subsidise kids who are not wealthy enough to pay, why can't the government also subsidise if they have good facilities?"

The situation means tennis remains known as a sport for the wealthy in the country.

Most children who pick up tennis at a young age come from the upper middle class, who have access to a court at home, or whose family can afford to put them in a club.

However, the trouble for Indonesia is that the majority of the privileged children are not interested in pursuing tennis in the way that twins Ana and Ani are.

Their drive saw the twins win the doubles at the the New Armada tournament, and in the singles Ani was the losing finalist, and Ana reached the semis.

'Build sport'

Private tennis instructor Alex Santoso sees a lot of potential in some of his students.

But he says those from richer families do not want to become professionals, as there is no guarantee they can "make a lot of money" by becoming a top-ranked male ATP or female WTA player.

And he claims that with the current competition and development programmes in Indonesia "it's impossible to get there".

The Indonesian Tennis Association, known as Pelti, is the governing body of tennis in the country.

Many Indonesians who are involved in tennis criticise Pelti for neglecting the development of young players, which has led to the talent drain in the last few years.

Its chairman Maman Wirjawan admits that there is a lot of work to be done, but refuses to take the blame.

"It's not only the government's job. The government has many problems as well. So we have to support the government. We have to help find ways to build sport in this country," he says.

Monthly tournaments

Since taking on the leadership of Pelti in 2012 he says he has been working on a sustainable programme to develop young talent.

"We start from junior [level] - we are now planning to have tournaments in many cities, especially big cities, [in] 10 to 15 cities throughout the nation," he explains. "We will hold it on a monthly basis for the next five years."

Wirjawan's programme can only succeed with corporate sponsorship.

But he is a brother of Indonesia's Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan, and has extensive experience in port and oil and gas businesses.

Many hope that his wide network can help secure the support tennis needs.

That will give much comfort to potential talents like twins Ani and Ana who will be able to play more matches in their home town and improve their skills.

But unless and until that happens, the sacrifices made by the twins and their family may be high-risk, and the outlook for Indonesian tennis remains bleak.

ITF/GSDF Team raise trophies at both Grand Slam Junior Championships
Read more at http://www.itftennis.com/news/180258.aspx#6PadhavDm7DTwZDE.99

Ten players in total comprised the International 18&U ITF/GSDF Team this year, ending their tour on Sunday 6 July at the Junior Championships Wimbledon with very impressive results.

Petros Chrysochos of Cyprus dropped only one set in the boys’ singles event at the 50th Astrid Bowl Charleroi Belgian International Championships, and lifted the first trophy for the ITF/GSDF team. In the girls’ singles category, powerful Belarusian Iryna Shymanovich similarly battled through, taking home the first girls’ trophy in the singles category.

At the Roland Garros Junior French Championships, team member Ioana Ducu of Romania partnered with non-team member Ioana Rosca to take home the first trophy in the girls’ doubles event. The girls put in an excellent performance, eventually winning 11-9 in the match tiebreak.

The week following the Grand Slam Event, the junior team members produced some of the most impressive results for a touring team at the 22nd International Junior Tournament of Offenbach.

For the boys, Cypriot Petros Chrysochos and Juan Jose Rosas of Peru both reached the quarterfinals in the boys’ singles and, as partners, also secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the boys’ doubles. Luckily the boys did not meet in the singles draw as Seong Chan Hong of Korea Republic fought to secure a spot in the boys’ singles semifinals. The Korean duo of Hong and Ku Keon Kang reached the boys’ doubles finals to cap an excellent week for the team.

Amongst the girls, Romanian Iona Ducu produced her most impressive singles results on tour, reaching the quarterfinals, defeating Michaela Bayerlova of Czech Republic 62 63. The unbeatable top seed Iryna Shymanovich, from Belarus, powered through the German tournament, doing the team proud and raised a girls’ singles trophy for the second time on the tour.

In the girls’ doubles category, Shymanovich partnered fellow team member Brazilian Luisa Stefani and reached the final without dropping a set. In an all-touring team semifinal clash, Shymanovich and Stefani faced team members Tami Grende of Indonesia and Maria Fernanda Herazo Gonzalez from Colombia. Shymanovich and Stefani won and progressed to the final where they were finished as runner-ups after losing to Miriam Kolodziejova of Czech Republic and Nina Potocnik of Slovenia, 36 76(1) [10-5].

Next up was the Wimbledon Junior Championships at SW19, which allowed the team to compete on grass, a first for many of the team. Peru’s Pedro Iamachkine impressed greatly, reaching the 3rd round of the boys’ singles as a lucky loser, having fallen in qualifying. Cypriot Petros Chrysochos, who had reached the 3rd round at Junior Roland Garros, caused a huge upset at Junior Wimbledon when he defeated No. 5 seed Quentin Halys of France in the opening round of the Championships. Chrysochos also impressively reached the semifinals in the boys doubles.

The best result for the team at this year’s Junior Wimbledon Championships came in the girls’ doubles. Indonesian touring team member Tami Grende partnering China’s Qiu Yu Ye, took home the girls’ doubles trophy in a straight set victory. The pair knocked out the top seeds in the quarterfinals as they went on to claim their title.

The team is financed by the Grand Slam Development Fund, providing players not only with the opportunity to take part in top level international competition, but also the invaluable experince of travelling abroad as part of a team under the guidance of ITF coaches. This year three ITF team coaches accompanied the team: Ivan Molina (COL), Roberta Burzagli (BRA) and Dermot Sweeney (ZAM).
