Jessy = Septi in terms of being error prone:rolleyes:

Vivien = Sandy - I guess, they both can be awesome first then down easily and play defensive

Lutfi = Romana - Indonesian wall not Chinese great wall, they simply return and retrieve the ball till their opponent get frustrated

(1) Ayu Fani d (3) Vivien S Tony 62 60

Ayu serve 1st then she was broken, 0-1 then Vivien's turn and Ayu broke back, 1-1...Overall, Ayu was the dominant force...battle of baseliners with long rallies involved heavy top spins into left and right corners...Especially Ayu's stroke was deep with combination of hitting into Vivien's body...DFs - Ayu 3, Vivien 5...This week, I witnessed Ayu's serve has been progressing in terms of 1st serve percentage compare to Vivien's...Ayu's 1st serve was placed with good angles but not as fast as Angie's...Ayu's 2nd serve is stil weak...Vivien's serve is typical of BMW camp's...weak...her 1st serve percentage was bad today...Several times, Vivien looked so confused in terms of what to do to handle Ayu's return or attacking strokes...For sure, Ayu's power was obvious during the whole match and she really pushed Vivien in difficult position...

(4) Jessy Rompies d (2) Lutfiana AB 06 64 63

1st set, Jessy lost in space...2nd set, it was tight match with plenty of rallies...Jessy tried her best despite of her typical UEs...Lutfi asked for medical break and Jessy got lucky to take advantage...It was a sweet b-day present for Jessy...Jessy is indeed our Sabatini...Jessy turned 17 yo today...Lutfi was a great retriever but no killing punch...

Game play wise.

Jessy and Septi are the ball bashers.
Vivien and Sandy are the all court players.
Lutfi and Romana are the retrievers.

I'm glad Jessy beat Lutfi! That's a first LOL. Ayu is just crushing everyone here. The level between her and the rest is scary but Jessy's been impressive this week. Beating Wukir, Liza and Lutfi. Not an easy task.

Palazzo Open 2007

Women's singles - final:

(1) Ayu Fani d (4) Jessy Rompies 76(3) 75:eek::fiery:

Ayu came into the center court in nervous wreck. It was typical of her whenever she had to face anyone from BMW's camp especially in an important stage such final. This final match was full of breaking each others' serves!!! Ayu served 1st: 10, 11, 21, 22, 23, 24, 34, 44, 54, 55, 65, 66 tie break 10,11,12,22,32,33,43,53,63,73!!! 2nd set, Ayu served 1st: 01, 11, 12, 22, 23, 24, 34, 44, 54, 55, 65, 75!!!

It was indeed a grueling match I could say. It was full of rallies and groundies' exchanges. Ayu was a smarter player though power wise, Jessy had better power for sure. Ayu was smarter to hit deep and many times right on the baseline which forced Jessy to hit wide or into the net particularly when Jessy tried to hit volley winner. Jessy's serve well actually and better than Ayu's. DFs: Ayu 5, Jessy 3 DF. Jessy was playing impressive with her attacking game but again, she needed to cut her UEs. Ayu was tougher in certain critical points. Congrats to both for putting up a good show!

Men's doubles - final:

Edy Kusdaryanto/Nesa Arta d (1) Bonit Wiryawan/Prima Simpatiaji 76(3) 76(4) - Bonit, Prima are Davis Cup team members - Edy is 32 yo now and was once in Davis team also long time ago. Good to see fat belly Edy to be victorious. What an Indy label player!!!

Men's singles - final:

(2) Hendri Susilo Pramono d Christopher Rungkat 76(5) 63

Hendri (28 yo) used to be a Davis team member. Christo (17 yo) has been in Davis team recently. Hendri with all of his experiences simply outclassed young gun, Christo who played a versatile game. These two players belong to Detec Club - same as Ayu, Nesa. Detec Club is the biggest enemy of Martina Widjaja - Indonesian tennis diva! It is proven that Detec is the happy camper again while BMW camp (the elite) is the loser.

Palazzo is committed to return next year and in its 3rd year (2009) Palazzo plans to hold ITF Men's Futures and ITF Women's Circuit.

Next month, Palazzo will organize a national tourney for veteran players with prize money (40 yo and older).

Congrats to Palazzo Group as sponsor and Widya Chandra sports team as event organizer.

For women, she targets 2 golds from team and doubles. She has asked Romana to play doubles and singles, while Wynne for doubles with Romana. Wynne can only resume her training next September. The other two, Sandy and Lavinia.

But I guess this is only for Sea Games?

After the disappearance from Angie, it's really hard to follow INA tennis now, so hopefully Wynne will consider coming back.

And I hope Angie's retirement rumour is not true :fiery:

Last week,

Sandy and Lavinia have finally joined Romana to tour around the US for the preparation of Sea Games.

25K Southlake
Qualifying
R1. (4/wc)Lavinia Tananta (INA) def. Kim Grant (RSA) 63 63
R2. Shona Lee (NZL) v (4/wc)Lavinia Tananta (INA) 61 64
Boo.

Main Draw.
R1. Sandy Gumulya (INA) v Vilmarie Castellvi (PUR) 62 62 :yeah:
R1. (6)Kelly Liggan (IRL) v Romana Tedjakusuma (INA) 61 63
R2. Natalie Grandin (RSA) (2) defeated Sandy Gumulya (INA) 62 46 76(6)

Sandy almost beat the second seeded player. Impressive start from Sandy.
Romana has really gone downhill this season. I remembered watching her match in Fed Cup against Shuai. She was like a wall but after one set and a half, she just collapsed physically. I bet this year would prolly be her last season.
Lavinia did OK. Frankly, I wasn't too happy when Lavinia left Detec to join Mama Martina, but hey, she gets to travel and play. Good for her.

Jessy Rompies won two ITF junior tournaments in Indonesia. She started to show her potential. Grace Sari, the upcoming 14 year old did pretty well, by reaching the SF on the both tournaments and lost to Jessy both times. She almost beat Jessy on the second tournament. If I'm not mistaken about the score, she lost 7-6 4-6 4-6.

Vivien managed to scrap through the 16 yo talented local player.
Lufti lost in a very tight score.

-----
Grace Sari Ysidora and Cynthia Melita were picked to join the ITF program in Europe for 5 weeks. They'd be playing ITF U14 tours. Would be a great exposure for Grace against the Europeans.

Here are the tournaments that they'd be playing.
9-15 July - BNP Paribas Cup, Stade Francais
16–22 July - Windmill Cup Carl Gantais
23-28 July - Le 13/14 des Hauts de Seine
30 July – 4 Aug - 30 Rheienergie Tennis Cup, Cologne,Koln
6-11 Aug - Laperre Young Champions Cup, Hasselt.
After that, both players and Dwi Rahayu would be representing Indonesia in World Junior Tennis U14 in Prostejov. Good luck girls.
---

Ayu Fani Damayanti is still injured. BOO. But she'd start playing *surprise surprise* national tourney in Indonesia. Without any threats, we can safely assume that Ayu will be collecting the trophy and check next week. Beatrice Gumulya (Sandy's sister) might be playing. She has just finished with her ITF U16 program in Europe. She didn't do too well there but hopefully she'd pick some valuable lessons. Grace was supposed to join this program since she was the U16 national champ, but again, since Grace is not under Mama Martina's camp, with some politics and behind the scene, Bea was the one who went in the end. Booo.

Does she have good prospect to do well in tennis?Henry, Jessy or known as Eci is indeed very potential player...Her dad is from Manado, North Sulawesi and her mom is from Solo, Central Java...She has a big forehand and good & strong serve...She is an all court player...she can hit all groundstrokes quite well...based on my observation, it is typical that all court player develop in a slower pace...so, it will take sometime for Eci to mature...especially her mental toughness (including emotions)...she has said before that when she knew there was an opportunity to win, then she is afraid to win...but I think, recently she has been learning the point of what she has said...Yes, she will surpass stagnant Lutfi and roller coaster Vivien Silfany as well as her senior, Lavinia Tananta...Eci needs to cut down her UE step by step...I think, she is 5' 7'' now...at least...

Speaking of 20%, that's why Septi Mende, Maya Rosa left the national camp. Moreover, the physical training is always inconsistent there. In terms of financial background, I also used to think that Sandy is quite well off but apparently her dad's business has been struggling. Lavinia's family is able to fund on their own but it seems only for tour in the Asia Pacific region. Jessy's dad is a retired man now. Lutfi's dad is a local tennis coach in Kudus, small town in Central Java. Vivien Silfany's family is also tough to be on their own. Vivien Silfany and Lutfi are recently employed by Pertamina, the state owned oil & gas company (Mia Sacca also) so they may get fund from their employer for their tour and education if they decide to go university. But for the time being, BMW is the sole financier for all these gals...

As far as I know, in Indonesia - the richest family is Diana Julianto's but you know she decided to go on her education in China. I saw her 2 weeks ago at Bandung ITF Grade 4 when she chatted with Yayuk Basuki. Next, we all know - the Widjajas, Angie's family. From Surabaya, the Limantoros must be a rich family. Their daughter, Christina Limantoro, 15 yo has been trained at Bollettieri's camp in the past year. I saw her picture when she played her 1st two ITF grade 4 in Thailand recently. Christina looks like Dellacqua indeed, body wise. In the two tourneys, she lost in 1st round, so no point gained. I doubt that Christina is a talented player.

As of now, I do not expect much on Sandy anymore. I bet on Jessy's bright prospect. Then the next layer is two 14 yo, Grace Sari Ysidora and Chyntia Melita Setyawan (now they are in ITF team U-14 touring Europe) but again these gals desperately seek sponsors. BMW has been trying to get them, especially Grace but both players have been refusing BMW's offer. Grace has been coached by Angie's former coach, Meiske Wiguna who coached Angie until she was 13 yo. Chyntia has been coached part-time by Angie's coach, Deddy Tedjamukti. Chyntia has a big forehand for junior nationally and has power, in par with Jessy. While, Grace has the best backhand among junior players nationally.

Latest development, Nadia Ravita, 13 yo - niece of Deddy Tedjamukti - has been progressing in U-16 nationally. She has good groundstrokes, typical attacking baseliner. Her shortcoming: her height (very tiny). She has been defeating older players in the last 3 months. Nadia's dad, Hawin Sutopo was once in the national squad for Davis Cup. Her mom, Luky Tedjamukti, Deddy's younger sister - was once in the national team for SEA Games 1987. It is such an enjoyment to watch Nadia's game. I just hope, she can grow a bit taller.

So far, there's nothing on the ITF Calendar... It is very typical work of Indonesian Tennis Association, last minute thing...As far as I know, it is possible to hold only 25K...Same as in 2005 and 2006 both were funded by National Olympic Committee...In 2005 as try-out prior to SEA Games 2005, in 2006 as to prior to Asian Games 2006...I assume ITA or Pelti will push NOC to fund it again as to for SEA Games 2007...:o:rolleyes: If it happens, it should be in November, I guess but who knows what week...

All these players move on to West Java Governor Cup 2007 in Bandung, MD starts tomorrow...

Ayu told me she has entered Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic ex Wismilak...But, I think the committee will give her WC qual since she is a Balinese...
Who knows, Ayu may even get into the qualifying draw directly since the cutoff is so weak every year...

I rant every year about this, but I really with it'd become a 32 player draw... Very few players want to risk flying all the way to Bali and miss the cutoffs... :(

I wonder who'll get the MD WC this year? Sandy?

Personally, I wish a number of them played the ITF events in Japan during the same time, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Sandy lost in the QF again at the $10K in Evansville. :tape:

It's the 3rd time in 4 weeks that she's lost in a 3rd set tiebreak. I've noticed that she loses a lot of close matches, including the final of Balikpapan. :(

Overall, I guess her 4 week US stint was reasonably successful. Now time for the Universiade...

I notice that Sandy lost alot of close matches. Hope she can fix it somehow.

Lavinia gets a crappy draw, especially @ the two 10Ks. Gaby Paz and Allie Will are two upcoming players. Too bad. Hope she gets the experience.

Jessy had great weeks. She's going to jump to around 650-700. Congrats.

Grace and Chyntia had not been doing too well on their U14 trips. Three more weeks to go though.

West Java Governor Cup 2007 - July 22-29

Women's singles - final: (1) Ayu Fani Damayanti d (4) Angelina Jogasuria 64 36 63:eek:

Ina Jogasuria did damages this week. In QF, she defeated (7) Septi Mende 63 61:eek::o then in SF, she defeated (8) Dede Tari Kusrini 60 64. Dede downed (2) Beatrice Gumulya in QF, 61 64:o

In today's final, Ayu was trapped into Ina's game. Ina typical game was hitting flat FH and BH straight and into the baseline...Ina's game was actually boring but she could hit hard...

Women's doubles - final: (1) Ayu/Septi d (2) Beatrice/Dede 63 63

Men's singles - final: (2) Elbert Sie (ATP 751) d (4) Sunu Wahyu Trijati 75 61:cool: finally, Elbert could lift a trophy here in his hometown of Bandung...West Java Tennis Association looked down on Elbert all these years...

Lavinia is still on the qualifying draw of 10K St Joseph. Seems like it's a late entry WC because she should be able to join the Main Draw with her rank. And what about Sandy? I hope they have changed their plans and continue the US tour

Congrats to Ayu. That's her third national title this year. And I'm glad she's whoring the Australian challengers. She has missed out almost half of the season by playing the national tourneys

Romana, Sandy and Lavinia originally entered Saint Jo 10K but then Romana withdrew first and followed by both Sandy and Lavinia. That's why Lavinia had to play qual instead of main draw...Sandy seems traumatic with her 10K results or physical problem...who knows...so, she just play dubs with Vivin...I bet, they will return after this Show Me State tourney...Being in Universiade tennis team, both Sandy and Lavinia will join Septi Mende to leave for Bangkok on August 7, 2007...These gals become tennis machines indeed...:fiery:

Ayu is back playing the 10Ks :weirdo:
One step forward, two steps backward.

Sandy really needs to start having a weapon or else she'd hang around top 300 the most. Her game is mostly topspins and lots of retrieving. These days, you need a weapon to start moving up the rank. I have yet to watch Vivin play. Jessy and Lutfi still playing juniors? :o

The only hope Indonesia have now is Grace Sari and Chyntia. Both are still 14. I hope they are managed by the right people.

Congrats, Sandy for the gold!!! Sandy did not play her best but she managed to handle the pressure and won 6-1, 7-6 (2) over Luangnam...

1st set - Sandy won almost easily due to Luangnam's significant errors...

2nd set - Sandy cruised on 2-0 but then Luangnam fought back 2 all...then Sandy kept going and 4-2...in this moment, Sandy began to get tense...it became 4 all, 5-4, 5-5, 5-6 then Sandy asked for medical treatment...I think, she had tensed muscles on her neck...6-6...and in TB Sandy led easily 4-1...5-1, 5-2, 6-2 and when Luangnam's FH return got wide, Sandy jumped to show her joy...;)

Yes, we could watch live here on TVRI...Martina Widjaja was tensed...:o

Indeed, Sandy played better today...she was more consistent...but she still needs to improve her serve and erratic backhand...if she wants to be top 150s...sure, Sandy was luckier at the end...Luangnam was certainly has better power and solid groundies than Sandy...

Sandy hurt her foot during her match. She withdrew from Pattaya and most prolly the US challengers she was supposed to play after that. She's going back to Jakarta to check.

I seriously do not mind seeing Ayu joining the Martina's camp. At least she gets to play. She was leading Sacha Jones 4-1 in both sets (and even 3 SPs at 5-3), unfortunately she had cramps. For someone who hasn't played any competitive tennis since forever, this is a good result.

First task for Deddy is to improve her speed...Grace decided not to take national selection for U-16 which will be slated next week. She told me last year that she did not gain any benefit by being in junior national team (Junior Fed Cup, World Junior Team Event).
This week, she is playing Cigna Open 2008 (total prize money for men and women is 180 million rupiahs) and she got WC main draw together with Cinthya Melita and Dwi Rahayu Pitri. Grace will meet qualifier in R32 and if she wins, she has chance to challenge Lavinia Tananta.
After Cigna, Grace will play Salonpas International Junior Championships in Jakarta (grade 2) then Thailand grade 1...

I know Suzanna is scheduling Sandy so that she could play French Open qualie...but why USA? weaker field in USA? why not in Euro clay?

Jessy and Bea take break this week and will play Asian Closed grade B 1 next week, while Grace made wise decision to withdraw from Asian Closed together with David Agung and Sonny Purnomo...

Grace's upcoming schedule:

April 14 to 20 "Jakarta Governor Cup" - senior open tourney
April 28 to May 4 - Balikpapan 25K

As we all know now, Sandy lost in the SF at $25K Balikpapan.

Didn't want to say anything earlier in case it'd jinx her, but this week was extremely imporant. Wimbledon entries will be based on the rankings that come out with the Balikpapan points. What a shame... I guess Sandy was under pressure about that, too. :(

Based on entries, looks like her schedule will be:
Week of 12 May: $50K Kurume, JPN
Week of 19 May: $25K Nagano, JPN
Week of 26 May: $25K Gunma, JPN (not yet released, but I assume she'll be playing there)

How do you guys think she'll do on synethetic grass? She was on 1-2 on it, last year.

Doesn't look like she's aspiring to play RG anymore, which I think is a good decision. :)

Grace Sari Ysidora almost 15 yo - just ended her national examination for junior high yesterday and starting today, she tasted her first rigorous practice 2 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon...She has been learning how to do bh slice...Next week, she has to take her school examination...

Grace's tentative schedule:

May 20-24 - "Sportama Championships" 2nd leg in Surabaya/senior national series (in the 1st leg she was semi-finalist) - 2 more legs and in December, final masters for 8 players only - organized by Angie's sport management

June 17-22 - ITF Grade 4 Thamrin Cup in Jakarta (semi-finalist last year)
June 24-29 - ITF Grade 4 Oneject in Bandung (semi-finalist last year)

July 6-17 - National Games in Balikpapan, representing North Sumatra

Late July - Solo, Indonesia 10K

Early August - Jakarta 10K

Grace joined the U14 and she didn't feel that the program suited her and she missed out quite a chunk of junior/national tournaments last year. Basically they only played the U14 tourneys in Europe.

Any idea why Grace refused to join? It may have been a good experience for her... Based on the observation by her coach, in U-16 ITF team - top junior players are not in this camp and Felix was right, Grace felt that she wasted her time last year and missed chances to play tourneys.

She was planning to play 3 weeks in Europe (grade 2 Hungary, 1 Germany and 2 Germany) next month in which the same week as RG and warm-ups on grass - but her coach did not agree since she did not have enough preparation. So, she had no choice to play 2 of grade 4 in Indonesia next month. Still tentative but it is likely she will tour to North America in August and her management will propose her to get WC Qual for WTA Bali.

I believe after she graduates from Jr High, Grace will take home schooling so she can fully concentrate on her morning and afternoon trainings. That's gonna make a big difference in her rigor and consistency, I think.

I guess that's understandable. Is there an U-18 team? Perhaps that would be good for Grace in the future. I think her aim should be to play in the Junior slams the next couple of hours, since the competition will be top notch.

Speaking of which, I'm pleasantly surprised that Jessy Rompies will be playing RG Juniors. It seems like a while since an Indonesian has competed in the European slams! Should be a great experience.

According to Adjie's sms, Sandy is still nursing her injury. :sobbing:
What a time to be injured... Skippiing the US Challengers would've been better to nurse the injuries. :fiery:

Really hope she'll be ok to compete the remaining 2 events. Next week is her last chance to get as high as possible on the Wimby alternates list. She has $10K Balikpapan final points coming off as well.

Wonder what Mama Martina's camp are doing to "nurse" the injuries... :o

Sandy's now withdrawn from the remaining 2 events as well. Injury must be serious. :sobbing:

Sandy is not in the Wimbledon alternate list as well :fiery:

not sure if it's because of injury or something else

At the moment, only Romana is pretty active on tour, who knows she might able to sneak in US Open qual draw

The state of INA tennis at the moment is :help: :tape:

Sandy is still in the midst of her injury...:fiery: Even her younger sister, Beatrice, who supposed to play Astrid Bowl this week in qual...do not know what happened to her... I did not see her name in the draw...Lavinia plays Bangkok 10K this week and auntie Yayuk Basuki plays doubles with Tiffany Welford in the same Bangkok 10K...Romana plays Carson 50K this week...Yup, INA tennis is pretty much dead...:help:

Sportama Championships 2nd serie just finished in Surabaya yesterday. This tourney is organized by Angie Widjaja and there will be 2 more series on the way. Total prize money is very small for women, 50 million rupiahs. Final masters will be held at the end of the year with only 8 players. Total prize money for final masters will be worth of 500 million rupiahs for men and women. Ayu clinched her title after defeating Lutfiana 6-4, 6-4. With Liza Andriyani, Ayu won doubles' title after def. Septi Mende/Wukirasih Sawondari 6-3, 6-1. Ayu is certainly domestic queen...

Potential young player, Grace Sari Ysidora, lost to Wukirasih 4-6, 2-6 in qf. In 1st serie, Grace lost to Lavinia in sf. This week, Grace still has to complete her junior high examination.

Race standing until yesterday:

1. Ayu Fani Damayanti 240
2. Lutfiana A Budiharto 112
3. Lavinia Tananta 84
4. Grace Sari Ysidora 82
5. Liza Andriyani 82
6. Wukirasih Sawondari 54
7. Dian Anggraini 40
8. Dede Tari Kusrini 40

I doubt that Lutfiana will play final masters since she would go to the US for university as she has been saying to everyone. But lot of people wonder if she has passed SAT or even TOEFL...:p

Grace Sari finally has been starting rigorous training morning and afternoon. She will be top seed in next week's ITF Grade 4 Thamrin Cup in Jakarta. After Jakarta, she had to apply for WC MD in entering ITF Grade 4 in Bandung since she was originally playing qualifying round for team event of National Sport Games. But since the qual was cancelled as per today then she had no choice to enter Bandung's grade 4. In singles of Nat Sport Games (from 6-17 July), she will be 8th seed after Sandy, Lavinia, Jessy, Vivien ST, Ayu, Romana & Maya Rosa. Her current national rank is PNP 10 now. Grace will represent North Sumatra.

After Nat Sport Games, Grace will play Solo 10K (Jul 28) and Jakarta 10K (Aug 4)...

Grace's national record as rookie in 2008:

Padang Open - winner
Cigna Open - R16
Sportama 1st leg - SF
Sportama 2nd leg - QF

If she gets good results in Jakarta and Bandung grade 4s, then she will play New Jersey grade 3 (Aug 18), Canada Open grade 1 and possibly US Open...

All the best, Grace!!!

thanks for Grace's news Adji.
Hopefully she will be our next Yayuk Basuki ;)

It will be so great if Grace can play US Open Junior, still tough road ahead, but definitely achievable with good schedule.

anyone have any guesses about when we'll have another top 100 female player from indonesia. i loved yayuk and was hoping widjaja would come through but that didn't work out, unfortunately. and now gumulya seems to be struggling to stay healthy. it seems like indonesia has a fairly established tennis community but all the so-called talented young players seem to go no where? any thoughts?

also, whatever happened to ayu-fani damayanti.? i thought she was going to be a good player, especially given she trained in florida for a little while.

I want to see another great Indonesia player!! :)

Ayu Fani Damayanti is indeed talented but she has personal problem. Being trained in Florida? No, Ayu never went to Florida. At first, she was scheduled to have short training at Nick's but it was cancelled!:o

We have a girl who has been at Nick's for a couple of years - Christina Limantoro - but so far she has played limited ITF grade 4s and this week she was qualifier in Jakarta grade 4...Based on my observation, she has made little progress and I doubt that she will be a good player...:help:

thanks for the info.

Yayuk is playing some big ITFs in the US? That's really exciting! who is she playing with?

That's too bad to hear about the cancellation of her plans to go to florida. who cancelled? what other personal problems are halting her progress? is she likely to overcome these?

West Java d Bali 2-1
Angelique Widjaja d Komang Sri Maryati 60 62
Maya Rosa d Nadya Diantari 62 62
Sediati Merdiningsih/Wiwin d Meli Yonda/Novianti Warsono 62 63
Tomorrow, West Java will play (4) North Sumatra to decide the top finisher in Group B
It will be interesting - Angie is accompanied by her former coach, Meiske Wiguna (official coach of West Java team) and Grace as her opponent since Ms Wiguna used to coach Grace as well...I think, Grace will play against Maya, since Angie has no national ranking now, so she will play Dede Tari...
