The world No.4 is seeded No.1 at a WTA Tour event for only the second time in her career, although she has been the No.2 seed on eight occasions. As you can see below, she has reached the final both times she has been No.1 seed and four of the eight times she has been seeded No.2.

Here is a look at Henin-Hardenne’s performances in WTA Tour events where she was seeded No.1 or No.2
in the singles event:

SINGLES FINAL
(1) Justine Henin-Hardenne (BEL #4) vs. (4) Monica Seles (USA #11)

This is Monica’s 85th career singles final on the WTA Tour, while it is Justine’s 14th. Seles owns 53 singles titles, Henin-Hardenne six. Seles has a 4-1 win-loss record over her Belgian opponent, but Henin-Hardenne boasts a victory in their most recent encounter on the grass at Wimbledon in 2002. Both women did it tough to reach the final, Seles having to see Amélie Mauresmo retire with a leg injury in her semifinal, while Henin-Hardenne needed three sets to overcome a rejuvenated Jennifer Capriati in the evening match. While Henin -Hardenne has lost two more sets and spent two more hours on court than Seles, the Belgian is brimming with confidence and swinging freely, so expect a
tight tussle between these power-hitters.
