Chris Ba - Didn't Man City used to have a mauve away kit? I love the word, but god that kit looked vile, a lad who was a City fan in my class used to wear it for PE, it even had a flash of sky blue on the sleeve making for a horrendous colour clash... I think it was around the Brian Horton era. Although nothing tops badkitdom more than that grey and flourescent green number you had a couple of season back. Eugh. Anyway, back to words... and one of my favourite words, probably only used in football commentary is...
Persnickety
Snip
Ballyhoo
Quippu
Gardyloo
Pooch
Infidel :p
Poppycock
OK these ones aren't 'words' per se, but they're great names: ;)

and, also a word that isn't real, but I wish it was (cant take the credit for it)
As for very poor words, the worst word I think is "cupboard". For not only does this word bizarrely feature a phantom "p", but, although you may put cups in a cupboard, you can put a whole variety of things in it. You'd think a cupboard would be a board you hang cups on... but oh no... And shouldn't wardrobe be robeward?

hoi polloi technically is two words, but I don't suppose that matters to the hoi polloi ;)
while we are on the furniture theme, a poor word is drawer with its completely superfluous ending
