Second seed Jennifer Capriati overcame some early-match jitters to advance to the third round of the Pacific Life Open with a 6-4, 6-2 win over qualifier Antonella Serra Zanetti. Capriati is hoping to improve her modest record at Indian Wells, where she reached the third round in 1996 and the second round in 2000 in her only prior appearances here.
“I got better as the match went on,” Capriati said. “I had some jitters in the beginning – it’s been a while since I’ve been here. I moved well and overall I’m pretty happy.”
Commenting on the bright conditions on center court, Capriati said that her eyesight had fully recovered from an operation to remove sunspots. She wears sunglasses while practicing, but not during matches.
“The sensitivity has gone. It was bright out there, but it was tough for everyone. The eyesight began getting back to normal during the last part of the Australian trip, and certainly after that when I got home.”
Capriati has not won a title in three prior tournaments this year and suffered a shock first-round loss as the two-time defending champion at the Australian Open.
“I’m not looking ahead at the rest of the year – I don’t want to put expectations on myself. I’ve got no pressure. There are a lot of people ahead of me in the rankings. I just want to play loose and my tennis always gets better when that happens.
“The break after the Australian Open helped me to clear my mind. I got my motivation back and it’s like a fresh start. I got my priorities straight and I’m happy.”
In the first round, Serra Zanetti defeated her elder sister, Adriana.

Great win for Jen. I know she can handle Vera. Vera hits hard and Cap likes that! I'm sure Jen will be more consistent than her!
Let's go Jen!

did jen take that red tone out of her hair? if she did, :worship:
i liked her hair so much better brown/blond. that was when she was wining a lot too. don't get me wrong, jen looks good with any hair color (even black!) but i think she looks best brown/blond.
and she's in such good shape too! she's lookin good enough to eat!
I like the brown hair and blond streaks, too. I saw Jen up very very close at the US Open and boy, her hair was so red. The colors are flushed out with zoom lens camera, so it was hard to see in pictures and on TV, but I like the blond streaks better, too. But mostly, I like Jen because she continually changes her hair style...I like that!

Grrrr I had just got my hair done the same red colour as hers too!!!!!!!!
Mar 12th, 2003, 07:07 PM
Go Jen! Hope you keep rolling in the tourney!
As for her hair, I swear when I was watching her practice on Sunday it looked like the red was still there, but in pics it doesn't. So who the heck knows...
Mar 13th, 2003, 04:40 AM
oh well, who cares if her hair is red or brown....
EITHER ONE LOOKS GOOD WITH THE PAC-LIFE TROPHY!!!!!!!!!!
As for her hair, I think it's true, you see how red it is when you stand in front of her, than on pictures. It's some time ago, but here's a pic I took in Berlin 2002 on which you see how red her hair was:

go jen! run lindsay around, get her tired, then she'll start slouching, then she'll lose!! :bounce: :p :wavey:
and why does lindsay slouch so much? i duno if she really is negative, but her body language is SO negative sometimes. she looks like she's having a horrible time at times...
but enuff about lindsay. GO JENNY GO GO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, I think Lindsay has always probably been taller than a lot of the people around her so she has had to clouch! My mean even I sometimes do it and I'm only about 5'9-10 (my friends all tend to be below 5'5 and one is 4'11).
Anyway, gooooo Jen! And I love the photo with all the red bits in her hair, v.sexy I must say.
