watching a competition without the familiar face of Venus Williams at this year's tournament.

"Venus Williams has withdrawn and will not be with us," was Dubai Duty Free managing director Colm McLoughlin's brief statement at the end of his welcome speech during the draw ceremony.

"There are many reasons why she doesn't want to come in here," admitted the new tournament director, Salah Tahlak.

"But one of them is that she is planning to change her schedule and start playing once every two weeks," Tahlak added. "Basically, she's looking at a more balanced schedule,' chipped in McLoughlin.

"We admit it's a bit late for her to withdraw, and we're disappointed about it. But we're happy with such a strong field and the depth of the entries. Consider that all the direct entries were in the top 50 of the rankings this year," McLoughlin said.

Hmmm.... once every two weeks?? Will that mean she will take a WC into State Farm and play with Serena?? Will this mean more Tier 1's??

Can't wait to see her different schedule.
