View Full Version : Daja Bedanova

What does everyone think is going wrong with Daja just last August she had got to number 16 following a 4th round at the US Open where she beat Myskina in 3 sets and also a SF showing at Eastbourne where she beat Dokic, Shaughnessy and Likhovtseva. But now she has fallen to 37 in the ranking at will probably fall further as she didn't defend her QF points in Antwerp.

So far this year Daja beat 'a very out of form' Hantuchova at Hopman, and then lost to Farina and Molik.
She then lost 1st round to Widjaja at Canberra
Then at AO beat Benesova in 3 and lost to Dechy in 2 in the 2nd round.
Then she failed to qualify in Tokyo, she lost to Lina which is not so bad but the score shows she was completely dominated.
And then 2 more first round exits to Serna in Paris and Matevzic in Antwerp both in straight sets.

I'm starting to think that splitting with her father as coach wasn't that good an idea, cause she finished the year bad to going out 1st round in Leipzig, Filderstadt and Zurich.

What does everyon else think?

This is the one who beat Seles at US Open 01, right, and followed it up by keeping Hingis on court for 42 minutes in the next round? Hmm, very strange person. Looks as though she hasn't hit puberty, and wears those awful checked shirt and shorts that make her look like an impoverished farmgirl toiling on a plantation during Depression-era America. And has an odd triangular racket too. Well, don't know what's gone wrong but she certainly sticks in the mind.

Well, I saw Bedanova in Paris against Magui Serna, and she was just terrible.

Not only nothing was going right, she was missing easy volleys, coming at the wrong time, losing the rallies, serving bad, etc. but to me, it did look as she didn't care.

Later on, I could see the possible cause of that, Daja was hanging around with her boyfriend, they looked very, ahem "friendly", smiling all the time, kissing, watching matches.

It's maybe a temporary thing but she reminds me a lot of Sidot, I think that's the explanation.

Sounds dreadful - there's nothing worse than premature ejaculation on a tennis court, whatever else is wrong with your game.

i watched her at the hopman cup this year and when her serve was on she played really well and was playing like a top 16 players but when her serve was off she seemed to lose confidence in every part of her game because when it was off nothing else worked either. she is actually a pretty good volleyer if she gets the chance and her groundies aren't all that bad.

i like the way she opens her mouth while serving lol

She is a standard top twenty player with average pace but good placement, and can serve/volley which is a bonus on faster surfaces. The problem with Daja is she needs to serve well and throw in a few serve/volleys to get herself going...i think she'll do well come the grass season and Eastbourne wasnt a fluke

Hadn't heard that she had split with her father. If so, I actually think it was a good idea. Her slump began last year while still with her father. She definitely needed some sort of big change halfway through 2002. However letting go of Dad is only half the story. Who did she get as a new coach? Does she even have a new coach?

Yeah she slit with her Dad around Leipzig last year and has a new coach I don't know his name but saw him at the hopman cup, I think he is czech

She does have a new coach, i saw him with her at the Aus Open this year. I really dont know whats going on with her, a few years ago she was having good results and had so much potential and now shes hardly made any progress. I think her problem might be the same as Dementieva and Stevenson, can play well one match, then really bad in the next match. I'm hoping she'll get out of this slump soon.

no Brad is not coaching her. That I know for sure. Daja just needs to get use to her new gamestyle. Converting to a serve and volleyer from a baseliner will take some time.
