Whats worse, being pretty much equal to your sibling but just falling a bit short (like Venus) or if you two played you'd be blitzed faster than it takes a fat man to eat a donut (like Elke)
Personally I'd rather be Elke.
(Or Be Venus and just 'accidently' leave the floor a bit slippery)

How old is Elke? Maybe we should give her a little bit of time...

16 i think
but Kim was in the top 20 at 16, Elkes not even top 500
and Safina is top 100 almost top 50 so age isnt an excuse

I think being Elke is worse b/c you probably would never live upto the standard set by your sibling, which sometimes leads to intra-family envy, or even worse feud. The downside of being venus is getting beat by your younger sister. I never like to lose to my younger brother at anything, but if I had an elder brother, I don't think I would mind losing to him. So, it's a choice of worse and worse. But, I rather be in venus' situation.

mmcdonald, elke was out for almost a year when she was about 15, give her a break and give her some time. she started out on the tour than kim so naturally kim would be higher ranked because at elke's age kim had played more.

Well, Elke is 18 years old now.

She must have just turned 18, and btw, she is ranked 502, so that's very nearly top 500! :p
And as Gowza said (which I did say in another thread this morning) Elke was out for quite a while with a back injury, and then she didn't feel like playing right after her back healed.
So I guess at the moment it's better to be Venus, but in the future it could become better to be Elke!

It's worse to be like Elce...I mean 18 years and 500?! Huummm.. by the time Serena was 18 she already had won a slam. That's the beauty of it: Kim will always be good but there will never be a Clijsters domination. Where as there is and will be a Williams domination.

Venus will definately be winning slams in the near future. She nearly did win the aussie open and im sure if there wasnt a mental problem playing her sister she probably would have...
winning multiple slams and having a record inferior to serena(whos damn GREAT), or being ranked double or tiple digits and winning challengers...lemme think..:|

It's worse to be Elke and to be expected to be as good as your sister. Why do people always expect siblings to have the same qualities when they do the same sports?

Its definitely worse to be Elke. Venus has already won 4 Grand Slams, and thats only one less that Serena. For a while most people thought Venus was better than Serena. For Elke, she was always the inferior one that everyone thought could never live up to her sister.

I think it would worse to be Venus. Yes, Elke hasn't accomplished nearly as much, but on the bright side of things, she doesn't have the entire tennis world breathing down her neck and wondering when she's going to beat her sister. Every time Venus steps onto the court, she's not only trying to beat her sister, but she's also trying to break out of the (now) five-match losing streak, plus she's trying to get the press off of her back, plus, she's got to stay tough now, because if she doesn't, she'll have competition for her number two ranking. That's a lot of pressure to be carrying around, and even if she does ignore stories about her, on some level, she knows what's being said about her. She is human after all.
Right now, if I had to switch places with one of them, it certainly wouldn't be Venus. I would rather be the one with very little attention than the one with the world watching her every move.
