View Full Version : Information about Munich wild-card

During yesterday's coverage of Filderstadt, there was an interview with Anke Huber.

The commentator said that the Munich organisers have officially asked the WTA if they might give a wild-card to a player (of course Anke). He asked Anke about it.

Anke aswered that, in that case, she would probably not ake it, as it would be unfair to the last qualified player who would deserve to get that spot. And also that the other player could use those points much better because she (Anke) retires and doesn't need any points. But of course she wants to qualify and play in Munich.

Nice comments, and I think she is serious. Anke is .

That would be a class-act thing to do! Just the thing one expects from Anke!

I agree with Anke, accepting a wildcard isn't fair to the person who is #16.
I hope Anke can still qualify for Münich!

Yeah, Anke, right thing to do, you'll qualify anyway. Leave it to Anna..

Anke's such a sweetie. Why does she have to retire?

That would be a class act of Anke!

That wild card is a stupid idea. The best 16 players of the year should play, that's what the Chase is.

Definitely a classy touch from Anke.

She's right on both counts of course, it is unfair to the 16th (#17) player, and she won't be needing those points I guess.

Such modesty is so rare. A few players we all could think of, would use it for 'one last hurrah'. For their own self-importance.

Not Anke.

Isn't there someone more deserving of the wild card?

Wow, that's a really great thing to say, it's obvious what a great person Anke is!

Well done, Anke. Yes, Anke is a class act!

The whole Wild Card concept for the final spot in the Championships is preposterous anyway, sure to create controversy and engender resentment, if ever implemented. I hope the idea dies and is never suggested again.

This "wildcard" concept for the finals has been done before. In 1995 Monica Seles had a wildcard, but was injured soon after the US Open that year. As far back as 1983 Billie Jean King got one.

Good luck to Anke in qualifying. She's an

Well, right now Anke is #17 in the chase standings and since Monica isn't playing I hope she gains a spot for the chase. But Arantxa is #18 and of course I want her to go too.

But what a classy remark from Anke. It's no wonder she is one of my favorite players.

Ah-ha, I always assumed this wildcard was a safety valve for Anna. I forgot the German mentality. Good for Anke to not buy in.
