Sooner rather than later. Maybe too soon for her own good.
How? Look at the schedule.
She defends 215 points before Roland Garros.
She defends 445 points before the US Open.

One hantuchova/Indian Wells-like result is all she needs.

In short, she entering a prime six month period ro move up in the rankings.
A SURE spot inthe top tne is a thousand points away.
A 'maybe' spot, ony 700.
Major difficulty - Chanda, Lindsay and Monica defend very little in the period either.

2492 09 Monica Seles
2171 10 Lindsay Davenport
2150 11 Anastasia Myskina
1965 12 Chanda Rubin
1787 13 Patty Schnyder
1669 14 Magdalena Maleeva
1544 15 Silvia Farina Elia
1537 16 Anna Pistolesi
1442 17 Elena Bovina

Top 10 or not in next few months, but eventually she'll get there.
She will pass the magic 2000 point barrier.

Monica has a lot of points to defend in that period Volcana :1319 pts to be exact to defend before RG (2 Titles, 1 Finals, 4 SF). She's gonna have to work hard to stay top10 until RG.

Actually Seles, Capriati (1022 pts to defend) and Dokic (987 pts to defend) are the players who might go down the rankings b4 RG ... with Rubin and Myskina sneaking in the top10 for a short period of time

Wow, that's all Elena needs to make the top 10? It seems like she was dawdling in the 60-100 range just a couple months ago. :)

It's scary because Lena's not even close to reaching her potential yet...

Anyway, GO ELENA! She's the only player I root for. I love her attitude, and I gotta stick up for a fellow Russian amazon. :)

:D Im so happy for Elena, she definitly has the skills to be top 10! And like Eggy said, this year or next year, doesn't matter she is top 10 material and will make it someday. Way to go Elena, keep it up!

as for Monica, she has 0 to defend in the clay and summer seasons, and shes known for her consistency

so dont look for her to take a permanent relief from the top 10

Wat do u mean DOkic has 987!!!??!!! she only has like 300 points to defend .... the only decent result last year pre RG was Final at Paris. Jelena is confirmed her position in Top 10, at least right now.

There are really only 4 stable top 10 players right now...which coincidently are the current top 4...Serena, Venus, Kim, and Justine because they all made it to the semi's...

Hopefully by then, she'll have raised her ranking high enough to get a good seeding for RG and go far!

I said during the 1st minute that I saw Bovina play that she's on her way to the top 10...not just for her actual game, but for her mental attitude. She looks like she's trying to attack every ball. Such determination!

For someone who is not a regular at the Russian Roulette forum to start a thread about Elena in General Messages, that itself shows how far she has come in one year. :)

And as a huge Elena fan, seeing that makes my (tennis) day. :D

I'm sure she will be top ten this year. She has the game and the mental attitude to go far in her career.
