going into the Slams finals with a losing record against little sis is really hurting Venus's confidence... She clearly has the athleticism and power to match Serena's game, but is suffering from a mental letdown during crucial moments of the match up that allow Serena to run away with a victory...

Serena used to have those same jitters before when playing Venus, and the turnaround is generally considered to be the NASDAQ-2002 in Key Biscayne, when Serena could finally beat the older sister in a very convincing fashion... SInce then, Serena seems to have this mental strenght edge over Venus, and their occasional and rare meetings have all been decided in Serena's favour...

The Nasdaq event is one of a few non-Slam events where the sisters enter the field together... maybe if Venus decides to play those events with Serena more often in 2003, providing her with the opportunity of playing Serena in a more relaxed atmosphere than in a Grand Slam final, will provide Venus with the confidence boost necessary to surpass this mental block, especially after a Venus's occasional first win...

Yeah i agree with that. Serena might lose when there is not so much at stake, and Venus will get her confidence up. But the difference before was that when Venus was dominating Serena it was because Serena just played unbelieveably badly, but when Serena has beaten Venus recently both were playing well or at the same level, but Serena just won important points. So it was easier for Serena to lift her game, but now Venus must feel shes given such an effort and still cant beat Serena.
