Despite winning four GS major titles and finishing runner up three times in the past 31 months alone (that's 7 out of the last 11 slams everybody--an AMAZING record), and winning more WTA tournaments at a higher winning percentage (19 out her last 37 as a matter of fact), with a higher winning percentage overall for both matches and GS major victories (where Venus's record is 104-18 lifetime) than ANY active player (yeah that even includes Serena!) since May, 2000 (she is an astounding 154-18 or .895 since returning from wrist injuries), Venus is still being attacked, patronized, dismissed, condescended to, and generally put down by all the commentators, the general media, and many "fans" who keep comparing unfavorably to players she's beaten soundly time and time again. Consider this: Since May, 2000 Venus is 9-1 against Lindsay, 3-0 against Capriati (4-0 lifetime), 4-1 against Hingis, 8-1 against Monica, 5-0 against Mauresmo, 6-1 against Henin-Hardenne, 5-0 against Hantuchova, and 3-2 against Clijsters, and 5-1 against Dokic. The ONLY player that Venus has a losing record against during this period is Serena at 2-4 with all four losses coming in 2002). Given these and many other facts like for example that NONE of the current Top 10 except Serena has ever beaten Venus in a GS final it's absolutely bizarre, not to mention a huge LIE, to claim that the other top players in the world are as seriously competitive with Venus as so many people are trying to make it sound (especially Shriver, Hernandez, and others at this year's AO). Venus must currently be the most underrated champion athlete in all of professional sports...
