Yes she didn't, but actually i think it should suit her game quite well. At least much better than slow red clay.

Well i think those junior GS shouldnt be overrated, there were so many different winners recently. I think she was quite average, not bad for a 16 years old of course, but there are many better juniors IMO.

Andrea Petkovic looked across the tennis court Monday night and loved what she saw: a 16-year-old girl, her ear buds in, bouncing around to music.

Never mind that Petkovic, an eighth-year professional from Germany, was getting ready to give that girl, Taylor Townsend, another unforgiving lesson about the grinding life of making a living in this sport. Petkovic, 25, just found Townsend’s energy so endearing.

...

Petkovic, who two years ago was ranked 10th in the world, fell behind 2-0 in the first set, knotted the set at three games apiece, and then won nine straight games to close. After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, Petkovic thought, “OK, that was a little bit more than I expected. I figure with (Townsend being) 16, you’re not going to hold this level.”

...

Monday was another difficult step from potential to results, the same one all the greats had to make. But Petkovic felt enough power in Townsend’s shots that when she met Townsend at the net after the match, she told her, “Girl, you’re going to be big later on. But please wait until I’m done.”

Andrea into Charleston R3 ! :bounce:

So happy to see her back and winning these matches. Nothing to lose in R3 vs #2 seed Wozniacki. Caroline loves green clay, she is playing very well there. She reached the final at Charleston in 2009, the SF in 2010 and won the title in 2011. With wins over Jankovic, Dementieva, Petrova and Schnyder. I have no expectations, Wozniacki is the favourite. Just hope Andrea can play a nice match, winning a set would be amazing.

Let's hope for the best and it's just a precautionary move.

KatjaS
Apr 4th, 2013, 02:23 PM
Though if she had already problems with knee swelling after Miami why would she play doubles here?

KatjaS
Apr 4th, 2013, 02:26 PM
Official reason is a right calf injury.

#Petkovic "Very happy I came here. It's a beautiful tourney and I loved every part of it here. Hope to come back under better conditions..."
#Petkovic: "I'm really sorry that I had to pull out but it was just too dangerous and I don't want to risk anything."

Sounds precautionary-ish...?!

Petko on twitter:

You guys, I had to pull out from my match with Caroline because of my right calf. It's been troubling me for the past days & it got worse...

this morning. With the experience I've had with injuries in the past year, I've come to the conclusion it's better to be precautious now.

Thank you for your understanding and I truly hope it's just a matter of days before I get better. I'll keep you updated! Much love from SC!

Well i dont think 3 MDWCs a year is too many. And so far she used all of them quite well :)

But Strasbourg definitely is a mistake and a WC for Paris seems almost impossible for everyone who isnt French or a former number one/multible slam champion  So even if she would play Strasbourg she couldnt play in Paris.

matthias

Well, more WCs aren't possible anyway so its the only way. Goal should be US Open MD i think, so Top 100 or better, that seems well achievable.

Well i'm not sure about Wimbledon, playing on those shitty courts in Roehampton is always tricky (with many holes in there, many opportunities to injure yourself :tape:). I wouldn't mind a WC there

But in the end i think it doesn't really matter, as long as she stays healthy and finds her form she'll go her way with or without WCs. :)

IMO she need the right mood, back in 2011 I had the feeling she was way to negative regarding grass and so she sucked
But she also reached the the final of sHertogenbosch in 2010
So she can play well good on grass to when she has the right mindset

Yeah often its a mental thing with her, she thinks shes bad and then she is.

Yes in sHertogenboch she played some solid Tennis on grass and even could have beaten Henin in the final without that mental breakdown in 3rd set. And she also had a tight match on grass vs. Venus in 2011 which isn't too bad as well.

She did enter Strasbourg, whether she plays it or not we will see http://www.quarterback.fr/images/stories/strasbourg2013/listejoueusesis2013.pdf

last year MD-Cut was #85
Qualifying had BYE´s

she can´t take another Maindraw WC at WTA-Events
and she just should play if she get a RG MainDraw WC

Yeah I know about the WC situation . That's why I said we will see if she plays .

If she doesn't get a RG_WC, she can still play Starsbourg qualies and "tank" by Tuesday but she is not going to that

Well so far she made some good points at the big events, but if she keeps playing like today, which i don't hope (and don't think ) she should play some smaller events. But there aren't many Internationals now, next week she could have played in Portugal, but then again theres only Madrid and Rome before Paris. And after that she'll play Nürnberg before she most likely has to play Wimbledon qualies.

Andrea

But excellent win in doubles with Angie over Makarova/Vesnina ! :yeah:

Beating these Top 10 players in straight sets is very impressive. Andrea/Angie played really well. They wanted the win so much. And were very happy when they won. This was an important win for Andrea I think. Good for her confidence, and she needs matches.

Not a shame to lose against Mattek-Sands, even when she will be pissed off again.

bekommt
man keinen Rhythmus und keine matchhärte
Petko braucht jetzt Matches Matches Matches

Dorien.

Afterwards its always easy to say it wrong to do this and wrong to do that ;)
I think its absolutely understandable she's using all the wildcards and it worked really well in Miami and Charleston. It's not like she can get them forever so it's clear she'll have to play smaller events if its not clicking the next few weeks and she already said she would. It's not like she doesn't have time, this year we can't expect much of her and she doesn't expect too much as well.

And maybe the positive side is that it may not be too bad for her body to start slowly with not too many maches

I don't agree, her schedule is exactly the same as when she was ranked inside the top 10. Other players start out with some smaller events (look at Nadal and Pennetta) and then slowly build upon that. I don't think Petko is doing the right thing there, because losses are losses and they will affect her.

Well it's only two losses to in-form players so far, and i'm sure she knows how to handle that.

And as I said there aren't many WCs left and I definitely think it's worth trying it as we've seen in Miami and Charleston. Another WC will be for Nuremberg which is a smaller event.
I really dont think theres a reason to worry about her schedule, most impostant is she stays healthy. :)

Hello you guys! I hope you are all doing fabulous and enjoying the sun (at least here in Germany we finally have sunny weather). I am in Munich right know seeing my doctor Müller-Wohlfahrt everyday and getting ready for the French Open. If somebody will bring me to perfect shape, it's definitely him! I feel physically fine in general, it's just that my knee still needs special treatments as I am trying to compete on the highest level and just had surgery 4 months ago. Unfortunately the last two tournaments didn't go as I wished but I had two tough matches against strong opponents (Ana Ivanovic and Bethanie Mattek-Sands) that definitely taught me a thing or two and will help me in my preparation for my first Grand Slam after last year's US Open- wow! Do you guys like chess? I'm really into a book about Bobby Fischer right now and trying to get into the game. It's really challenging and you should try it out! I wish you all a wonderful week! Speak soon, xoxo, Andrea ♥

Andrea will play Bundesliga on Friday in Ratingen. It's not clear yet whether she will play away in Stuttgart on Sunday.

Petkovic will spielen, siegen, Spaß haben
VON THOMAS SCHULZE

Ratingen (RP).

Petkovic erst in Ratingen, dann in Paris
VON THOMAS SCHULZE

Ratingen (RP).

Dann kommt Andrea Petkovic.

She is obviously only one spot out of seeds in RG Qualies :)

Petko seeded now as Glatch is out.

French Open Qualifying:

Galina Voskoboeva - Corinna Dentoni
Johanna Konta - Saisai Zheng
Qiang Wang - Yi-Miao Zhou
Andrea Petkovic - Nadiya Kichenok

Not a bad draw definitely.

not a bad draw, but considering her performance last week in Bundesliga, I would like to say everyone could be dangerous:( wish her good luck!

Voskoboeva could be a tough opponent but she's brainless sometimes. I think she should come through to R3 easily.

As Carsten said, Bundesliga is pretty much an exho match. Wouldn't read too much into that.

Maybe Kichenok played really well. I hope. :)

I'm sure most of her lower ranked opponents have some extra-motivation to beat a former top 10 player. So probably she was playing well, yeah.

What's a bit worrying to me is how difficult it was for her to hold serve. She got over 70% first serves in but still had to go via deuce during almost all her service games.

i hope the young girl played quite well, but obviously petko really had some big problems in her service game.

Well, thats nothing new from her, she often takes the risk from her first serve to get in as many first serves as possible, so of course she doesn't have too many free points on it. Probably not the worst thing to get some rhythm.

I have to say the loss was not totally unexpected. She didn't find her correct form at all since the clay season.
finger crossed, hope her body keeps well and then gradually get on the right track.

Will she be bold enough and ask a WC for ITF Marseille or Nottingham? I hope she at least considers it

Fan of Petko

It was a tough lost today I can Honestly say I don't know why Big Events like these or not giving her MDWC consider she is a former top 10 player, But at the same token I agree with most of u have said that she need too play some ITF I think that do a great deal with helping her out with her confidence, It think also playing some International will be great as well

I have been thinking on Petkovic again. You know, she's not the most gifted player out there. She has said herself that she used to get confidence from hours and hours of training and drills. She needed that. I think she is a little bit similair to Nadal in that sense.

She's been stressing that she now values quality higher than quantity. I can understand her, espacially given all her injuries. The question is: Where does she get the confidence from now?

KatjaS
May 25th, 2013, 07:24 AM
This might be a good point. Of course she should get her confidence from the fact that she has already achieved so much in tennis, she should know what she is capable of etc - but it's not easy to trick your brain, particularly when it has become hardwired over the years to work a certain way. I had told myself before her comeback to not worry too much about her results in the first 6 months, to just be happy that she is fit and on a tennis court but that's becoming a bit difficult.

Andrea :bigcry:

It`s so disappointing to see her lose in a Grand Slam Quali. The injuries destroyed a big part of her career. Andrea is losing the best years, she is not getting any younger. And the road back is very long. Who knows if she will ever be a Top 10 player again ?
