... AND did not play in the OTHER slam they didn't win.

Helen Wills Moody (1928 and 1929)
Billie Jean King (1972)
Monica Seles (1991)
Steffi Graf (1995 and 1996)
Serena Williams (2002)

First, I was surprised there were so few.

Second, who and in which years had the biggest chances to complete the Grand Slam (if they had played in the other slam). Let's not talk about Steffi Graf too much here since she has done it already and twice, LOL.

Also I just noticed that in all cases except Seles in 91, the grand slam missed was the Australian. Is that saying something?

Aussie Open in the 1970's was smaller than alot of Tour events which had alot more prize money, it wasn't until the mid-80's it got to near the level it is of today.

As for Helen Wills Moody....... travelling by ship to Australia would be pretty tough ;)

And Steffi didn't do it in 1993, she played in the Australien and lost the final to Monica. The whole rest of 1993 was fake anyways  Monica had a chance to win all 4, especially when you look at the poor level of play in slam finals in the rest of the year from steffi and everyone else.
