I thought a new thread would be nice for Petko, away with the pesky injury stuff. She is currently in San Diego preparing herself and then plans to play Indian Wells. No news so far if she will take a MD or Q wildcard. She hasn't announced what she plans on doing after IW, so Miami isn't a certainty, she might also choose to play an ITF instead.

18th March - $25,000 Innisbrook, FL
25th Match - $50,000 Osprey, FL

I'm sure she won't have problems getting a WC.

Come on its not like Putintseva is THAT great :p It could have been easier, yeah, but you never know what to expect after a break anyways. I just hope she stays healthy in tht match

KatjaS
Mar 4th, 2013, 06:54 AM
There are not many players in that draw that I would rate higher, plus she's going to scream like crazy every time Petko makes an error. But I agree that right now, just staying healthy is probably a success for her. Though I would love to see Putintsevas reaction to a little dance in front of her. :p

This is a first test, nothing more. Would have been better to start with qualis of smaller tourneys. But understandably, she didn't want to miss big events like IW/ Miami and her comeback schedule had been geared towards playing there and doing the prep at the Vegas Adidas camp.

Match of the Day: She’s back! Former world No. 9 Andrea Petkovic announced her return to the game in high style, beating the tough No. 6 seed Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 6-2 in a qualifying first-round match that had blockbuster potential. It’s Petkovic’s first win of the 2013 season after a right knee injury sidelined her in late December for over two months.

Quote of the Day: “No dance!” A smiling Petkovic told this to hopeful, camera-wielding fans after her qualifying win Monday night, referring to her ever-popular “Petko dance.”

Sometimes injuries happends because of the mind and the fear of them. is scientifically proven that mind can condition the body to such an extent to make it give up...I think that Petko's problem is near to this: she was to scared to get injured again and....she did! I really hope she changed her mind before she rehab her body.
I really like her as player and really hope to see her back where she deserves : top on the top!

Didn`t mean it this way. But the fact is Andrea has lost important years/months of her career because of injury. And she was a Top 10 player, in excellent form. Andrea could have achieved many great things. The road back to Top 10 is long, and has only just started. And Andrea isn`t getting younger ...

it should be easy for Petko...but she is in good shape or not? in Indian Wells I expected a little bit more from her...not 1 match and at 2nd out. Really hope I'll have to write a lot of articles on "PEtkovic's remuntada" ;)

well, she was just 3 weeks back on court as she played IW
so you couldn´t expect more
Petko isn´t one of those players with tons of talent who have it easier to come back
she is more the player who comes from Rythm and matches - matches - matches
now she has 2 more weeks on the court and so i hope she improved.
but it also depends on Jovanovski, she can be dangerous when on, but also could gift Petko a lot of UE.
We will see, i just hope Petko can keep the UE´s down, then she should have a fair chance to win it

Like 95% of all other players i would say. There are about 3-4 players who play almost on their best level after they were out for months and thats mostly the multiple slam champions would say. Everyone else just needs time. The "rule" is you need as much time as you were out of competition to get back to where you were before, so we shouldn't exptct too much in the following weeks.

i know that, but many people expect her to comeback like Nadal, Clijsters, Serena
going deep in tournaments already and not losing against non-top-30 players

PETKOVIC MOVES THROUGH TO THIRD ROUND

MIAMI, FL, USA - It may not have been the ideal way to win but Andrea Petkovic won through to the third round of the Premier-level Sony Open Tennis nonetheless, moving past Marion Bartoli when the No.10-seeded Frenchwoman had to retire from their match down 63 41 due to a left foot injury.

Petkovic, who is playing just her second WTA event of the year after missing the first two and a half months with a knee injury, was falling behind fast in the first set, serving 1-3, 0-30 - but things turned on a dime from there as she won nine of the next 10 games to build a pretty hefty 63 41 lead.

That was when Bartoli's pain became too much and she had to stop, Petkovic winning by retirement.

"I was really happy with my movement today - that's a part of my game my coach and I have been working on a lot, because with all of my injuries I'm still trying to know where I stand," Petkovic said. "I was also really satisfied with the way I stuck through with the match plan my coach gave me.

"I'm feeling fine - I still find the matches affect my body more than my practice does, but that's normal with the stress hormones and everything, but this week is already much better than Indian Wells.

"I'm just getting used to everything again, kind of, and just taking it match by match."

From GM
Marion's injury shouldn't be that serious, at least she was walking with no difficulties after the match... The interesting thing is that the medical timeout was called by both players and Marion had to wait until Andrea's back was treated by the trainer... Marion was trying to tweak her foot constantly during the second set, so it might be the heel, or so it seemed.. but she was not playing well to start with... Andrea was hitting heavy top spin to the corners, often leaving Marion with no choice but to use one hand reach-out strokes, which were falling short for the easy put away... Andrea was moving well, but the serve can still be a liability... On another note, I met Marion during a charity event where she played with regular folks in a round robin format, and she is absolutely charming and a lot of fun to play and be with... :)

"Ich bin wirklich froh darüber, wie ich mich heute bewegt habe. Mein Coach und ich haben viel an meinem Spiel gearbeitet, und nach den ganzen Verletzungen weiß ich noch nicht, wo ich stehe", sagte Petkovic.

"Langsam kommen die gewohnten Abläufe zurück. Ich fühle mich gut, schon viel besser als in Indian Wells."

usually she can take just 3 WC´s for Maindraw a year (Miami, Charleston, Stuttgart)
But History told us those rules dosen´t count for GrandSlams, Lisicki got a Maindraw WC too, and it was her 4th WC that year.

But RG is also not known for hand out WC´s to non-french players (just the Australian and US ones)

Goal should be to be seeded, in RG Qualifying - she still lose points from Stuttgart,a d with tough draws in Charleston and Stuttgart you never know how much points she can score

Come on, think positive:

This year it's the 50th anniversary of the German-French-friendship, Petko is kind of a "Stimmungskanone" and (now the killer reason for RG to give her a wild card) SHE SPEAKS FRENCH

By the way, this is the second time in six months that she serves a bagel in the first set and still loses. Last time was against Martic in Tokyo. Back then she also was a break up in the second set. Must be something physical I think..

Its just lacking match practice ;) as long as her game works she can win easily, like the 3 matches she won after her comeback. and when it got tight, she lost. Will take some time to get that right feeling back for those situations.

Mar 24th, 2013, 12:28 PM
Sad she couldn't win but it's indeed a lack of match rhythm. It's tough to play the same level for just more than one set.
I so hope she can qualify for Wimbledon MD. I'm going and would so like to see her again.
