Why did this match happen so early? (it is still Sunday in Oz, isn't it?) Well anyway, congrats to Arantxa and also to Tommy for a great comeback -- he obviously is not taking this lightly. Spain has never won this (I think they've only competed here three times, though) and I would surely like to see them win this year -- it would mean an awful lot! I expect Arantxa will do her usual "verbal" coaching job with Tommy during the mixed dubs, which is always entertaining!

Viva Espana!

marsha - are you sure spain hasn't won this? Didn't Aranxta & Emilio Sanchez win it a few years back?

Dec 30th, 2001, 03:31 PM
Oops! I was *wrong* about Spain never having won this title -- Arantxa won it with her brother, Emilio, in 1990 -- sorry!

Dec 30th, 2001, 05:02 PM
It was sunday when this tie was held Marsha, the hopman has day and night sessions earlier in the tournament

Dec 30th, 2001, 05:18 PM
Well done Tommy and ASV!

marsha, actually I think that ASV and Emilio won it twice, 2 consecutive years if I'm not wrong (something like 90 & 91)

Dec 30th, 2001, 05:34 PM
damn ASV, why don't you retire

Bad luck Argentina All the very best in the coming matches tho...glad to see Paola looking as beautiful as ever!

Unfortunately I missed her match but got home in time to see the mixed, and they played quite well as a team and won the first set, I pretty much figured they had the match won so I went to bed but unfortunately Spain came back and won the mixed 4-6 7-5 10-5. Spain win 3-0

Good win for Spain, but disappointing Argentina couldnt win a rubber. Oh well.

Vamos Paola! Good luck for the next two matches!

Hi just read the official site

Apparently Arantxa was only broken once and that her strong serving produced like 5 aces!!!!

Whoo hoo, is this something arantxa has been working on??

Hopefully (touchwood) this is a good start for 2002 for Arantxa!

Kepp playing well (I think they could get to the final!!!)
