Based on current form, and how they played Down Under last year.

What I did was, I took their results Down Under
last year, and balanced them with the players
last three tournaments. To an extent, I
account for both current form, and surface.

The method offers no forgiveness for injury.
Serena, Lindsay and Chanda suffer.
There a subjective correction factor.

IMO i cant see anyway serena doesnt deserve to be top seed. even though i understand your way of doing it.

I can´t agree with this seeding system. You cannot put a player who didn´t advance past the 4th round of the last 3 GS´s she played ahead of the player that won the last 3!! I´m telling you rihgt now Serena is the no.1 at any slam until someone beats her! No matter what surface or what happened in the past!!

Current form is not that important if there's an off-season in between.

This seeding is not how they should be, but how they did last year, which is never any indication of how they'll do this year anyway. Clijsters and Capriati above the Williams sisters? Smashnova #8 and Stevenson #12? This is too funny

I have to agree with Crow and Experiment. Remember after Capriati won AUz Open everybody said she was the best on tour? I don´t either!! A new year is: new ball game, new chances. Do you really think that if the Championship had GS-status Kimmie would have won?! Don´t think so!! Serena didn´t play for like 2 months, didn´t practice and see how close she came of winning. don´t you think that knowing she can complete her Serena slam, she will let anybody beat her?! Nonononononono!!!

TheBoiledEgg - There's Dementieva and Stevenson. Dementieva did better Down Under last year, bot Stevenson did better at the end of the year. I thought the explanation of the ranking was pretty explicit, so I'm not bothering to write it again. It's subject of course, but I thought ALex had more of an edge the end of the year than Elena did at the beginning. Dementieva did better at OZ, but worse at Sydney. At year end, all Alex's results were as good or better than Elena's.

anyway the rankings are the thing that counts and lets just stick by them no matter how they are.

We disagree. I think how Kim Clijster played at the end of the year is a pretty good indication of how she'll play at the beginning of next year. What's a better indication of how Hantuchova will play next year. Current form, or how she did in Australia last year?

Oh really? Then why is Serena #3? If you're going to willfully ignore the initial post in the thread, why bother to respond? For that matter, if it was how they did last year, why not have Jenn #1?

Volcana, you give a particular player (Hantuchova) who improved a lot since january last year. So in her case it's about right, but the seeding as it is officially done, is way better than yours imo. And the off-season is important. You can't predict how people will do in Australia by looking at their year end form, because there's a fair chance their lost their form (opposed to others who could have gained better form).

And btw all rankings that do not result into Serena as the first seed is ridiculous, really.

Didnt Alex come thru qualies and make it all the way to the QF's in Tokyo...going to look it up??????????????????

Yes she did make QF ......
i presumed she lost in qualies as Volcana had a -- next to her name, i knew she was in qualies as i remember her beating Abigail Spears :(
