Wow the girl is only 16 and already scored wins on pro tour against the likes of :
Olga Savchuk, Katarzyna Piter and Eleanor Dean (promising British junior who is 16 as well).

She's focusing on ITF's but could well play at Juniors' Roland Garros this year.

Allez Océane!

I saw her at Bron last year and I am very enthusiastic about her.... But Grenoble has very high entrance list and 2nd round will be probabely too high level for her... I hope she will play and win 10k tournaments this seasons !

Edit : Oceane will play vs Iryna Bremond tomorrow, Probabely not the easiest qualified girl to play...

yes that's not a bad loss against a top200 player. It was close. I left her she was 2-4 in 1st set, she proved great fight there against more experienced player.

this 25000$ was surprisingly very high level, the pliskova's are nearly top100 but play here!strange but well zanevska beat good players last year

dont know what tournament oceane will play next but dont think she'll play 10000$ tournaments

She was planned to play at Bron, but she withdrew, so probabely she will not play anymore this month... Then in march she could try to play in Amien 10K and/or Croissy-Beaubourg 50K....

She will finally play at FRAUENFELD 10K in switzerland next week, she will directly be in the main draw...

Although none of the players she beat this week were impressive, I'm glad she was able to win the matches she had to win. This might boost her confidence as these last weeks she suffered painful losses to some good players like Zanevska, Sadikovic and Broady, each time in 3 tight sets. I really hope they'll give her a QWC for Roland Garros.

Oceane breakthrough keeps going!!!
After a convincing spring and summer campaign: 2 titles (ITF $10K), 1 Final (ITF $10K) and 1 SF (ITF $15K), she reached the Final at Shrewbury $25K as a Qualifer!!:bounce::bounce:
In the Main Draw, she ousted 2 Seeds (4th seed/Sirotkina n°156) and 5th seed/n°177 Beygelzimer.

With such a run at Shrewbury, she may jump from n°527 to n°400 approx. (if she lose in final) and even more n°350 in case of Victory!!!

At only 18 y.o, she's one of our upcoming talent to follow!!

Bonus: she only has 4 points to defend until the end of the year :):)

Very happy she beat Parmentier who overestimated by the french federation. All those wcs now they will give it to our young players. Oceane could enter to the fed cuo team also. She should be (amelie if you read) she's better than cornet. More dangerous.
I just want her to mature and become a big champion the one oceane dodin and not the "french sharapova".

Pamiętacie Marie Bouzkovą, naszą katowicką ulubienicę z eliminacji? Nazwaliśmy ją pieszczotliwie „Czeszką z termosem”. Od tamtego czasu Marie wygrała juniorski US Open.

Od tamtego czasu Marie wygrała juniorski US Open.

Relevant translation: What's waiting for French with cookie, tournament number 1, Oceane Dodin? So far she's beaten Angelique Svinos from Australia 6:3 6:0 whose coach is Polish. Australian was afraid of this match, however not really necesseaily as pushing was a good strategy. Dodin is really "wooden" [Polish slang for tall tennis players moving badly] even though she has good physical conditions and has finishing strokes. "She's so great technically" - ironically commented Magda's French coach about Dodin playing with technique like from 10k qualifying. Of course, coaches of Fręch and Svinos agreed that when Dodin has her day, opponents can do nothing. That's good as such strong, risky players like Dodin (or Giorgi as a player with better technique) add some colours to the circuit.

It's a shame there aren't more indoor tournaments on the main tour. Not just for Océ's sake, mind you :p, but they've been in gradual decline on both tours because of limited capacity (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/03/sports/tennis/as-tours-evolve-indoor-tennis-tournaments-are-increasingly-being-left-out.html). And the carpet surface (like that used in Zawada) was phased out from both tours entirely. :(

W drugiej rundzie pokonała Olgę Janczuk 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3, a w ćwierćfinale

Your teeth can hurt a bit you while watching Dodin's matches. Her game reminds an intelligent student who has not prepared for an exam, but bases on general knowledge and somehow gets on during that exam, even though he doesn't have any control over it and splendid shots are accidental. Oceane is struggling here but so far is winning. In 2nd round she's beaten Ianchuk 6:3 6:7(3) 6:3 and in quarterfinals Ana Vrljić 7:5 3:6 6:1.

What? I think I've watched enough matches to say that Océ's "splendid" winners are neither "lucky" nor "accidental." She may not be playing well, but she's still winning, and knowing how to win without playing one's best is an important trait of all champions.

There is a big court and close stands now so Oceane feels her team's support

today Oceane plays spins, tries also some more technical shots and runs better. Anh should play low to her legs

[Kalinina] doesnt serve that well today, but Oceane decent in return points

Ok Oceane is the first finalist. Anh could've been more tactical here, but Oceane played a very good match.

 The interviewer sais that he was feeling like he was watching Sharapova when he watched her play because she hits the ball so hard. She answered that yeah, they kinda have the same style of attacking play, that Masha has a great serve and that she likes players that play the same style as she does. :p

OMG, first I thought the person who ranted on my Facebook was a gambler, but then I figured, probably TF

Well, at first, I've been hearing about Oceane for longer than this thread exists, but I've never seen her play until this week. Seeing her results from the last weeks it is obvious we have a good player, no bad player would have these results. And I've never written she's a bad player, only that I haven't seen her good match yet and several of her shots were scary (but it's typical for such players, one day they play shit, the other day they move the sky. Their goal is obviously to always be full of confidence and produce good game). BTW, "wooden" doesn't necessarily mean "bad movement" but "raw shots". I don't think movement is her problem (at least at this level it looks OK to me, it's not like when you see Pliskova at any level).

Haven't been to quarterfinals, but spectators said Oceane picked up game after Vrljic's timeout after the 2nd set. Today was a total damage, this was finally the game I (and everyone else at the venue) hoped to see from the start. Yeah it was a tactical mistake from Kalinina's point of view to go into full hitting with Oceane instead of playing into her feet (anytime Kalinina did it, it was a point for her in 1-2 shots. Oceane will be surely working on that, because it's a problem for all tall players and WTA tour girls know it). But it's Kalinina's problem. Anhelina was mentally and physically weaker and the score was deserved.

Mind I am not a fangirl of players, I am a reporter, I can't praise someone endlessly when players are in bad shape and make rookie errors. I am a professional and I have worked at and for tournaments for almost 10 years. I don't know what other journalists you guys read and what their character is, but in my books you have to be objective and unbiased. When you're biased in a blog entry (which is acceptable to some extend), mention it to be fair to your readers. I am negatively biased only towards one player from the whole WTA tour, who personally annoyed me. I don't write about her at all . The rest are just normal girls. Often very nice off court and professional with the press.

When Radwanska is passive and pushes, I call her on that too, although I think she's a great girl and can play beautiful tennis on many of her good days. Giorgi is one of my favourite players, but she sometimes has matches that make me want to jump out of the window with the lack of thought and shot execution.

The tweets were a conversation with a Kalinina fan. If an Oceane fan would ask me what *she* should do to be be the top player, if I see the top player potential in her (even without seeing the SF, the first 2 matches were enough for me to know her strengths and weaknesses) I would say - there is an insane potential. Match experience, matches with good players who are able to defend and change rhythm. Not everyone gets to the top 10, but some don't even have the potential to dream of it, and she does.

I'm totally with you on the fact that "reporters" should remain objective.

But, I mean, do you clearly consider these statements of yours as objective? :haha:

This is pure speculation from your side. If her winners were so accidental and her shots uncontrolled, she wouldn't be where she is. And she must have some Godlike amount of luck in each of her matches to have so many of her uncontrolled erratic shots not only landing in, but being blasting winners.

I am negatively biased only towards one player from the whole WTA tour, who personally annoyed me. I don't write about her at all .

i'm a little sharp with my words sometimes :) actually, used to be sharper :) but i am sure tennis players know when they play good stuff and when they play pisspoor stuff. trust me, what i wrote was objective :tape: :tape: (that's actually scary)

It was a striking contrast between her jawdropping shots and no control bad technique shots. I see she's being compared to Sharapova. But that contrast brought pre-breakthrough Giorgi to mind.

Today there was an entirely different Oceane. You know, a different player. She was fine with rhythm changes and dropshots. Probably one thing is what people said, that she caught up with the game in the QF, and the other thing is that now there was one court with stands instead of 3 courts behind the window, so she was in constant interaction with her team and received lively reactions from the stands after good actions. This, on the other hand, might have gutted Kalinina, who is a bit less experienced at this level in senior competition.

Actually i ended up sitting next to Oceane's team :tape: there was this guy who worked with Cornet before, her dad. and a another person with slightly dark skin. she's in good hands, French federation doesn't waste talents. she won't win Australian Open 2015, but she'll be steadily improving to extend days like today to go for months and to cover up problems that will be always problems (low balls for a tall player, like i said).

i also liked Ostapenko btw, very interesting final, but i won't go anymore :o  Kalinina was great in doubles too :) who knows, maybe one day they will be all ranked very high and we'll have nice memories from "2014 in Zawada"
