You know,Tanya Roberts' character rode a zebra in the film classic,'Sheena',but I've read that they don't enjoy being ridden by normal mere mortals...to be diplomatic:angel: with Petronius,I won't speculate which member of Petra's team is inside the suit.

Paul had only the best intentions, but let's see how we do with Moose leading the way:drive:

I remember Petra saying during last year's RG that 'Paris is a very romantic city.'

Couldn't agree more, I've been there about four times and have lots of relatives there. I just hope that our player stays from some not so safe neighbourhoods. There are also sometimes very weird folks travelling or just fooling around in the metro system.

But I guess she'll have a personal driver so no problem here.

I am really excited to accept a wild card into the 21st Open GDF SUEZ. I have really happy memories from winning the title in Paris in 2011, especially beating Kim in the final, so I look forward to returning this year. It's always fun to play in front of the Parisien crowd and of course I love playing indoors so I hope to have some good matches there :)

Sadly, I feel Petra's team is at a loss (based off of their most recent comments/Petra's play the past 4 months), and the braces aren't coming back any time soon to rescue/help her.

As I've said before: Petra's on her own. And I'm not sure there is much her team can do at the moment.

The irony is, you hear about Ni La and Maria (as their making their Grand Slam runs) go through their various high profile coaches--and their positive affect, and you wonder how Petra could do with one or several of them, or at least in the capacity as Senior advisors?

Could Romance Be Driving the Top Three?

She's been with him a while now; Serena's, Maria's and Vika's relationships are all brand new - it makes a difference. When something is new it's fresh and exciting and one is madly in love in the beginning.

When you've been with someone a while (like Petra has with Adam), it's still exciting, but they know each other, so there's not as much excitement in finding out things about each other.

Plus, Petra is a different sort of person to the above 3 - she's more homely... the 3 girls are more extrovert. Also I feel Petra is more of a private person too, which means that she doesn't show much on the outside of what is happening in her private life.

Does that make sense?

If you ask me Gorges/Cirstea/Cibulkova/Rezai at 100% all match (just assume, will never happen though) is better than Seles, Graf, Davenport, Serena, Venus, Capriati, Pierce at 100%.

I hope Petra's clueless team is watching this Sloane Stevens vs Serena Williams match.

If Petra's team wants to pick up some cues on how to be more competitive against Serena, they should just watch this match.

You just can't sit there and ball bash with Serena. You got to use some variety, with your defensive slices, defensive ROS stabs, use of top spin, drop shots and angles, as well as coming to the net every opportunity you get. This is essentially Petra's YEC game, that would work well against anybody (especially the Azarenka's and Sharapova's that like steady pace). Young Sloane Stevens is employing all of this in a Mexican Standoff (sorry Bruce), even after Serena's pain killer kicked in for her tweaked back. Win or lose. She displayed the tools (at least in this match).

Somehow (at least for the time being), I don't see it making a difference with them. When will we ever see our Wonderful All Court Tennis Playing Petra again?

Yes. And you know what? Other players being out of the tournament isn't going to help Petra because she's proven she can lose to anyone.

She has to get through tournaments herself, without the help of other peoples' injuries and WD and not having to face top 10-ers.

Paris' line-up is actually a blessing in disguise (if Petra plays well) so she would notice that nowadays, a victory isn't a walk-on-the-beach event anymore, she has to work hard for those wins and deserve them (as netphobia said) - and not getting 'lucky' draws. True inner confidence comes from toughing it out, how harsh it might sound (I still remember her match against Safina in '09 US Open) and not through a 'false' feeling that she has won from a subpar opponent (either through injury or low ranking).

The only thing is: I DON'T think Sloane would have played as well against anyone else yesterday. We'll see how she does against Azarenka (Sloane will probably get dismissed).

I just think she had her reasons to beat Serena yesterday (Serena injuries, mental issue; Sloane revenge from Serena "Disrespect", stepping up, no pressure, etc.).

And of course, I was speaking about if Petra was playing better to beat Robson. Petra played like shit in various facets. But who knows what would have happened if she played Sloane (who wasn't great against Robson herself, though she straight setted her).

Nonetheless, let's hope Petra and her team make drastic changes, work harder and pay much more attention to detail as a result of her latest embarrassing loss.

Unfortunately (like you), I'm not so sure if it's going to make a big difference. I think it's still all on Petra, "Catching Lightening In A Bottle" again at Paris Indoors. :help:

That appears to be their plan (that and to send her back to the currently useless Psychologist/Mentalist). How about more practice, working on her Tennis Game!? :oh:

A bit lucky with the aces really - largely thanks to Robson's slow reaction time http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/images/smilies/emoticons/snail.gif

It was so simultaneously enjoyable and alarming (for Petra fans) watching Ni La, play such high quality tennis yesterday, and crediting so much of it to her new coaches fitness training, mental preparation, relaxation and tennis strategy and techniques. And this is not the first time a new world class coach has assisted Ni La into a Grand Slam final.

Even Sharapova's coach (another World Class Coach, who's brought her recent dividends the past few years--including a Grand Slam win), kept looking at her coach, cause the STRATEGY was wrong. Well, least he/they had a STRATEGY (and I remember, they used it quite fine against Petra, especially at the Aussie Open and Stuttgart). :oh:

One of my knocks on Kotyza (he does have some benefits): He's a poor game planner and strategist; especially during repeat performances against another well coached formidable player. He's just not. This is another area, where Petra's current team may be handcuffed and she needs to change and/or bring in other people. But I digress.

Right now Petra's team is not offering any of the qualities I mentioned in this post (including any good play out of their young Padwan/Paramour). Tick Tick Tick.

Good Point/Post. If only if she cared.

Sadly, I think Petra will only care, if/when she starts to play well and gets her confidence back.

The problem is of course: If she had the right mental approach/focus, stuck to or had better game strategy, practices and proper fitness training (if you really believe the new fitness guys has screwed up her game), she wouldn't have to wait till she plays her way into form. She would be playing that way (or at least better/close to her potential) from the start of the year.

Nothing that I've seen in 2013, is remotely close to the first 3/4 of 2012, mind you her breakthrough year and best events from 2011. This Petra is a shell of her former self.

It's like she's a totally different player at the moment. And I hold both Petra and her Motley Crew of a team responsible for her current demise (or patchy play--when she plays better). :help:

Nope...not at all...can't believe she even used that as an excuse!

I would respect Petra's team more, if they said things like "Petra's not working hard enough"...."Petra needs to practice more to get to where she was in 2011"...."We need to work on her ROS more, if Petra's to beat Serena or Sharapova", etc.

However, when you just get an assortment of excuses or incredulous explanations, it puts the focus squarely on her team. Cause like I said previously: Good coaches, if they don't call you out for poor work ethic, they eventually leave. And the fact the Petra's team (and Kotyza in particular) said 'It's too soon to be alarmed'... 'We deserve more time', is very concerning.

Well, at least they're saying 'her mind it not right, right now'. However, I think that's just a reflection of them not properly preparing Petra for the rigors of 2012 and 2013 season. And they know it! Nonetheless, no matter how poorly Petra plays, Mr. Cernosek is not going to give up his WTA meal ticket and Czech player to play in his various Czech/Ego events at home. Petra would have to fire or walk away from him to sever their relationship.

Unless Petra or team bring others into the fold, she will continue to have an up and down season, unless she rides a giant wave of confidence and excellent play into the Hard Court, Clay or Grass Season. However, at the moment, Petra, her game and team have no stability.

Yes, she's started, fallen very far off last seasons first 3/4's even.

And anyone that would even try to make excuses for her play, would just be highly delusional.

As you indicated: Even if she plays better, which she can. It wouldn't mean that Petra's team and attitude/desire weren't crap. Because if it/they were top flight, she'd be going deeper into these various tournaments, with better play, tactics and attitude, and she's not.

At this point, unless they're some major changes or shake up, we can only hope that Petra has a great run of good play and confidence, the next few months. As LupoJohn said earlier (I think): 'Petra's gotta be her own coach, physio, mentalist and fitness instructor', really.

So maybe it's not surprising, that so many of Petra's career titles are with out her coach. :oh:

You should know better, journalist like to ask tricky questions and he didn't said it was a failure per say, just they don't know why nothing was working for her. Petra's interview about improved fitness was even more strange cause in a way sounded like she's lazy and can't fully adjust to new fitness regime but Petra sounded confused like she doesn't know what's going on and just said something to fend off reporters, that's why for me she lost in a woods right now. I'm not worried about slow start but more about the fact that they don't know what to do with it:help:

Hate the draw - she's got the hardest. Errani has a cakewalk :fiery:
Don't be ridicilous, he path to SF is easy for Kvitty indoorGOAT at 50%, Gools plays great indoor but she's not match for Petra and i'm not sure Pavs can beat Gools to make it hard for Petra. Hardest quarter is where Sofia, all indoor GOATs packed together and only one of them will make it to final, so Petra has to worry only about Marion but Marion has to worry about Barthel. I want draw to be hard for Petra, so she would gain massive confidence in tough hard matches in this tournament, tho if she fails it will be even worse for her

I'd prefer her draw over Errani's because that's what she had in Paris two year ago and when she won them all, she played well against Clijsters in the final. So I would think that if she would be in the final, she would steamroll Errani.
I will be surprised if Errani can make it to SF, her half of the draw packed with indoor HC goats

Playing doubles may be helpful to Petra's volleying skills, amongst other things, but I'd rather that she teamed up with one of her Czech FC teammates who thrive in dubs competition...maybe when the normal partner is taking a week off.I'm not sure that a 6-1,6-1 thrashing and quick 1st Round exit will do that much for Petra as she crosses over into Singles play, but perhaps Petra and your Belgian dream girl will surprise us;)

Of course, I'm really looking forward to coming to Paris," Kvitova said. "I have always had a great time playing there, especially in 2011 when I won the title there and beat Kim. I feel comfortable there so hope I can get some good matches.""My goal is just to play matches," she added. "I want to be relaxed on the court and take a different approach after some tough results in Australia.

"I am coming with my best friend and my coach David is staying at home, so I hope it will be fun and I can play some good tennis again. I am also hoping to play doubles, which is something rare for me, so I hope that will be fun too!"

Once again, I see there's disorder--in the always less than well run Kvitty Queendom. :oh:

Petra's a funny young lady to understand sometimes.

Think about it? She's either committed to staying with a group of misfits, who continue to demonstrate they have no clue what they're doing. Then at other times, Petra wants to be away from them (to get her game and head in order with no pressure she says), where she's actually won about half her career titles with out them. :weirdo:

How about just changing or trying different management and coaches altogether Petra, that gives you best of both worlds/situations, and chances to win!!?

Once again, this is a clear admittance, that Cernosek/Kotyza and team have reached their limits with Petra. How many times is she going to do this (Linz 2011, Montreal 2012, and now Paris 2013), to find her game, instincts, mind and self???

Why must Petra rely on herself (and Veronica), to play her way back into form?

If you told other tennis fans how Petra's team is run (especially of top 5 players), they wouldn't believe you or think you were lying. You can't make this stuff up.

To me, I feel like there is some enthusiastic streak in her words, not in a competitive way but more in an exploratory way. It feels like she's going to try some things (I'm not implying in any way that she is going to show her Istanbul-like play, with variety), play without pressure and without overthinking a lot (be it her ranking, her recent results, the draw, her opponent), just trying to regain her OWN game again - like being back to the basics - square one.

Good points.

In Linz (like now), Petra's play and results leading up to it were horrible. So when Petra entered, she had no to low expectations (didn't even want to enter the event until the last minute), and almost treated it like practice, really!

Guess what? After two shaky early matches, she found her form; including her variety, touch and net game. The rest was history, as she closed out the year winning Istanbul and Fed Cup.

However, if you would have listened to her then--before the tournament started, you (anyone, including POV) would have felt the worse or same. Good or bad, that's Petra!

You are correct that you took a lot of heat--though none from ME--for your comments about Petra's desire and belly.I suppose you have just cause for calling other posters slightly obsessive but, then again,I can't speak on how much of their lives they devote to Petra's career...nor do I have any interest in exploring that.

What's asinine,to me,is when someone pretends to know with near certainty if a stranger--which Petra is,to most of us--is 'happy' or not. It's not as difficult if one has followed an athlete for many, many years or knows someone more intimately. It's pretty obvious that lots of underachievers go out of their way to justify their personal declines by saying how happy they supposedly are with their new, unproductive(or,in some cases,self-destructive)behavior.It's sort of like many of your countryfolk who approach someone of another race with,"I have LOTS of black/white/(pick the race) friends."---the foolish disclaimer usually has the exact OPPOSITE effect of what was intended with ANYone who has common sense.I.e.:When you try SO hard to convince one of something,he/she only doubts your sincerity that much more.

You contradicted yourself, actually,by claiming that Petra seemed happy, and less than 24 hours later you stated that she was unenthusiastic(you'll probably figure out your opinion eventually;)).Regardless, happiness isn't necessarily an end-all;I've seen plenty of drunks who were VERY happy as they drank themselves half to death...or crackheads who were thrilled when they scrounged up enough money for the local dealer...but,clearly,such an earthy emotion isn't always deep OR fulfilling.Let's hope that Petra chooses things that are personally uplifting as her source of happiness......Am headed back to work,so may you have a HAPPY remainder of the day:lol::wavey:

We know Petra cares, or at least feels the pressure or sorrow, cause she cries--during matches, and right after she loses them.

So there appears to be a disconnect. On one hand, Petra doesn't place the necessary work, interest and competitiveness to be more highly consistent. Nonetheless, when she unexpectedly loses, she cries and apologizes to her fans.

Petra either doesn't know what it takes, or she just saving face??

:) Like I said before IMO things aren't as simple as "either/or." Of course she cares when she loses. But only she and her intimates know what about it bothers her. Whatever those details are, my point was: when she's not facing that immediate - or recent - sting of a loss, is her prime focus one of a honed, almost laser-like focus on improving her tennis? My impression is that it isn't. Sorrow, sadness, feeling down, etc aren't things that are generally helpful in getting back up the hill.

As for apologizing to her fans. She's a "nice" woman and she knows her fans are disappointed. She is sincere in those apologies. She sincerely wants to do better. At the same time she's not focused on doing what it takes to do better. She may even think that she is focused on that but she's not. It's not her prime motivator at the moment. That may or may not change. Either way, at this point, this isn't meant as a criticism.

The standard miniscule stats don't give much indication of how anyone played. The idea that hitting more Ws than UEs means one played well is a stretch by any means. The fact is that Kvitova had a few good moments but overall her play was on the sucky side. Many of the Ws she hit were from balls sitting up right in the strike zone. Anyway she got the win so hopefully she'll start getting her game back together.

Wow, the stats looked better than Petra played. However, I missed the first set, that she won 4-0. Plus, Petra was up 3-1 in the 2nd set as well.

Voegele didn't deserve to win the first set (she was down 4-0), so I can't give your prediction much credence, regarding the tie break.

It may be a good omen, she put up these stats vs a very scrappy player, when so many of us know she didn't play that great, and at times looked mechanical and UN-instinctive (like she was trying to re-gain it).

But then again, who would Petra have to hit with, unless she tried to hook up with one of the [female]players already competing.

A boxer would expose himself to ridicule from the boxing media if he didn't separate himself from his wife or gf for the final, intense training stage for a title fight(unless he somehow defied the odds and performed well in spite of his atypical approach...don't know if any great champions have ever consistently done that).

I'm not totally familiar with the tennis culture,so I'm wondering if it's considered acceptable for Petra,or any other WTA or ATP player,to share a hotel room with a spouse/lover during a tournament(???)

I got what you weren't saying? I just didn't make the leap.

Is Petra rooming with Veronica? Or you just took the leap to bring up your question, then you threw in the current player being "worn out" for added measure (kinda out the blue)? :(

No, I don't know the protocol. But remember (if you're asking), Adam, traveled with Petra to Linz last year--sans Kotyza, and she won it.

Nonetheless, I have no idea, what their sleeping arrangements were (though I assume they were in the same room).

I'm sure a good coach, would recommend against it, unless you're married like a Federer.

Most times when Kotyza travels with Petra, they were usually in the same room (especially when Ivanko was there), so I doubt any funny business took place.

Their many group/room/hotel photos verified this. But that's just them.
