Zaniewska and Kania are pretty much a lock for MDWC because Zaniewska is from Katowice and Kania is from Sosnowiec, city just bordering Katowice.

Pyka - I know this from Polish newspaper, she is the local girl from Katowice.
Maciejewska and Lewandowska - I know this from private sources. Lewandowska is 2nd junior of Poland and she has a coach who is from Wozniacki Academy.

Really?
I read Zaniewska, Kania and Domachowska got the MDWC and one TOP 20 WC

I read that too but afterwards read more verified source. WTA can give maximally two TOP20 WCs, if they give one, then organizers can give it to Polish player. If they give zero, then one WC goes to Polish player and another to next-in ALT.
However also read in that source that Octagon agrees to give this WC to another Polish player which could be Marta.

Do eliminacji jedną kartę otrzyma zawodniczka z Katowic, a personalia kolejnych osób ustalimy nie wcześniej niż trzy tygodnie przed turniejem - powiedział Paweł Owczarz, dyrektor turnieju.

It can be either...

2 tournament wild-cards + 2 top 20
or
2 tournament wild-cards + 1 top 20 + next in
or
3 tournament wild-cards + next in.

Tournament is allowed to hand out 3rd wild-card, only if neither top 20 wild-card will be used.

strong MD = weak quallies as usually is in Doha, Dubai or Stuttgart :)

Not really. And definitely not in a warm up clay tournament for Roland Garros.

Dubai and Doha get weak qualies as only players ranked in the top 350 can enter the list as a premier event (plus getting there is kinda expensive for a low ranked player when they are not sure to get in). And of course these are busy weeks in the calendar with Memphis, Bogotá, Florianopolis so players tend to go to tournaments they are most likely to get in.

Stuttgart get weak qualies as qualies weekend is being shared with Fed Cup so not all players can play plus again there is another MM on clay that same week and again only players in the top 350 can enter qualies while International tournaments get that up until the top 750 ranked players.

Wait I never knew that top 350 rule :spit:. That is so stupid - do you know the reason for it?

This rule was introduced a couple of years ago so no rich useless players can get around the world playing this kind of tournaments. (i.e. Whitehead). They rather have doubles players in the draw than these random players in the 1000s. Rule states that only top 350 players can get in as well as Full Associate Members (which includes "top" doubles players like Spears, Kops-Jones, Rosolska...)

why?

she is such a brat, ridiculous :o

The tournament is a private enterprise, not any event made by tennis federation or intercountry match like Fed Cup. Ask Caro why she's not playing. This is not obligatory.

The truth is actually she doesn't play because she would have to switch between surfaces two times in a month (Fed Cup is on hard surface) - which is actually not comfortable for her. Such surface changes would be bad for her form.
The end of discussion.

such a bullshit?
how is she switching it twice? :haha:

1) she switches for 2 days from clay to hard and then back to clay
2) RG is waiting, so why she doesn't want to play on clay before
3) It's the first Polish tournament since 2 years now, and the 2nd best Polish player doesn't play because she doesn't want to? :o I'm 100000000% sure, she would play, if Aga was allowed to, but without her, she seems to have no mercy for her Polish fans  -> Ridiculous brat :ignore:

Hard (Indian Wells, Monterrey) > Clay (Katowice) > Hard (Fed Cup) > Clay (Estoril).
That wouldn't be a smart schedule

That Hardcourt event in Copenhagen also wasn't a smart choice for Caro, but she still played, cause it was the only tournament in Denmark and the only chance to be seen by local people.

The same counts for Ula. So why she can't do the same? :help:
Also, Aga wanted to play this, so you think she would have withdrawn here with knowing that she will play Fed Cup afterwards? :spit:

Ula could have entered and then tank in R2 (not like she would need to try hard to lose anyway :oh:) but could have showed up at least, like Aga will do in the Exho-match

Jerem
Apr 2nd, 2013, 11:34 PM
The exhibition match is just the perfect situation for Aga: she will be able to play at home without any kind of pressure, for only a match or two on clay (a surface she doesn't like to play on), and the organizers will be able to count on her presence for some events. Fact is that Aga is, I think, much more known and 'marketable' than Ula in Poland so her presence there was obviously very appreciable for the tournament, but I'm not 100% sure she really wanted to play there.

Besides that, Ula has no interest to play this tournament this year, not to mention she will be able to compete next year or later, as it seems it won't be cancelled anytime soon. She's not the only player not taking part to a tournament held in her country, and enter the field just to tank would be completely disrespectful for her home crowd.

Kania has received a WC for the main draw, this one is hers once and for all unless she decides to withdraw or enters the main draw as direct acceptance (very unlikely).

I really don't think any player would swap a MDWC with a place in Q, except maybe if she needs some practice :p

W rywalizacji sportowej zabraknie sióstr Radwańskich. Czy jest szansa, że kibice będą mogli dopingować w turnieju głównym inne reprezentantki Polski?
Jakub Puchalski: Tak, planujemy przekazać kilka "dzikich kart" Polkom.

Of course, she was better then than now.

Tanked playing 5:7 7:5 6:7 or something in rainy Warsaw just before her FO quallies. :oh: never mind.

These choices of Q-WC  Don't understand them. But maybe the organizers will offer to Linette/Piter a MDWC for the doubles, in compensation.

Definitely not, she was in total slump at that time with no win in over three months. She beat Garcia the week after but the French was nearly nobody then.

WCQ: Kawa, Pyka, Fręch, Maciejewska

Poor Linette and Piter :oh:

Kawa and Maciejewska are understandable because they are experienced enough (+ Maciejewska is a very promising girl). Pyka is local, but why not WC for ITF? And Fręch is just 15 - same case.

I hope Linette gets in directly, but poor Piter :tape: Maybe MD WC if WTA does not find top 20 players :help:

wow, surely deserves a MDWC better than a QWC
are you kidding me? have you ever seen linette? she has won more than 1 set against a player ranked 338 in the world. same for piter. and not against frech, because also giving kawa a wc over linette is :o

you have no idea about the procedure giving wcs aren't you?

everybody has his personal favorites and of course you can discuss the choice of wcs here but frech is 15 yo...my god, what do you think what she can do? beat top 100 players or what? and she has couple of good results. she definitely deserves the wild card here.

kawa is a way worse player than linette, yeah. just look at them. no doubts about it, even a non-linette fan would tell you

sorry but if she is promising and she took a set off a player ranked 338 in the world, better give her a wc to a 25k tournament than the qualies of an international event, specially when you have better choices

and you post this as if was something in favour of kawa
being the same age, linette is ranked 150 places ahead of her.
high career ranking is even higher difference for linette over kawa: 163 linette, 394 kawa
more titles for linette than kawa: 4 25k and a 10k for linette, and 1 25k for kawa
also, h2h is 2-0 for linette

i mean, linette>>>kawa
